I want to thank all of you that have posted your experiences. I was also suspicious of the time of the calls and didn't answer. Yes there's never a message left. I have just now notified all of my family and will relay this current scam to friends as well. Thank goodness for "caller ID"! However I don't trust phone calls from anyone I don't know anymore. It breaks my heart to know that there are trusting people out there being taken advantage of by this current round of scammers! Now they even have the nerve to ID themselves as the gov't. Will it ever end?

I took the survey. They never asked for any information that could identify me. Just asked if I had experienced certain health conditions, what my general health was, whether I was disabled, whether I was taking any medications (but didn't ask which ones), etc. Even if it's a scam, I don't know what purpose it would serve.

This number is one assigned to the MD State Govt office on St. Paul St. in Baltimore. Also found this on the web:

These are private contractors who are paid by the completed survey, they are not State or Federal Employees. There have been cases of these telemarketers selling the health information they collect. There are no background investigations done before they are hired, and several thousand cases of Medical Identity Theft have been traced to this survey. The Center for Disease Control merely awards the contract but will not take any responsibility for Medical Identity Theft when it occurs. Medical Identity Theft is one of the fastest growing crimes in the Country and they are asking for information which should never be given out over the phone.

Received a call tonight and it was a man who said he was from the health department of MD and was working with CDC and he wanted to ask me some health questions.  He asked to make sure I was over 18 and the woman of the house and then wanted to confirm my phone number.  When I told him I didn't want to participate he insisted that the survey was important and was used to decide how tax dollars were spent on health care.  He was rather rude when I again said no, I would not answer his questions.

I will not answer this number again.  Who are these people who think we should just give all of our personal information to strangers over the phone??!!  Whatever happened to privacy???

A couple of calls have come in in the last 2 months, usually in the evening, well after business hours. Each time the caller ID displayed "MD State Gov't.", but no message is ever left (we don't answer it).

I am surprised at how far back the comments go on this number. I receive calls from them about twice a day, all hours. I do not answer, and they hang up (live line) after they (apparently) determine it's an answering machine. Agree with "pissed off" Dec 2010) who noted that "if it was that important [and it was truly someone from the state gov't office with a legitimate issue] they would leave a message." Hence am never answering these calls...but really annoying how many have come in over the past couple of weeks. Someone somewhere, please stop this craziness.

These morons have been calling my house for weeks, although I never answer the phone (as tempting as it is). I finally Googled the number to figure out who they are. It's just as I thought... a bunch of morons wasting my less than adequate free time. I'll let them keep calling since my taxes are already wasted in so many other ways, and since I never answer my home phone in the first place, and only have the robotic response Verizon provides on the voicemail. That'll teach them to mess with me. Lol.

I am receiving calls from them lately on my skype account. They say they are the MD health department. But I get the feeling that they are liars. Maybe I am just paranoid. But when I asked them to stop calling, they asked for my name. Why would they need my name to stop calling? Something is fishy.

We started getting these calls on Wednesday evening.  I answered the phone because it came up as MD State Govt.  The male on the other end said he was doing a Mental Health Survey.  I just hung up the phone.  Thought it somewhat odd that the state would be conducting phone surveys after business hours.  Now this number has called my phone several times over the last few days.

I keep getting a call from 410-767-6774 every day (even on Sundays) at different times of the day.  This cannot possibly be a legitimate call from the MD State Government (Caller ID).  I answered once and the person on the line said that my name and number was picked at random by a computer to answer questions about health in MD.  Even though I declined answering anything, they still keep calling every day.

These people call three to four times a day, often after seven PM.  They don't leave a msg and normally if I answer, they hang up.  The CID says they are the MD St Gov and one time they speak when I answered the phone.  They said they were calling about a health survey.  I asked that they no longer call, the guy hung up, but they continue to call.

Just got a phone call wanting to do a survey for the Department of Health and since I was not the male in the house and he was not here would not do the survey. Well my husband will not do the survey and if they will not speak to me they have left me no choice but to block this number.

This number calls me everyday, 3-4 times a day and usually they leave a message.  The caller says it's the Maryland Dept of Health and Mental Hygeine and they are calling to do an "very important survey."  They leave their number for a callback.  This is really getting annoying because they are calling my business.

Answered once after a 4th attempt from this number. The caller asked if my number was a cell phone and after telling him it was, he thanked me and hung up.

This 410-767-6774 number calls NON STOP, as if we owe them money or something!!!  I've since called them THREE (3) times to STOP CALLING US.  Has NOT stopped.  We ALL need to contact the Maryland Health Department and complain CONTINUOUSLY that the company they hired to do this INVASIVE questioning and calling is NOT doing the job properly.  Better yet, contact the Feferal trade commission, as I will be doing.  If they get enough calls, I GUARANTEE you they will contract out a new company or stop this survey all together.

I sent an e-mail to the Maryland Attorney General's office to alert them that this seemingly bogus cold-calling campaign is occurring.  It would seem that the caller has a false caller I.D. listing.  I told the A.G. about this site and how the overall consensus is that it just doesn't seem remotely legitimate, and in many instances, seemed amateurish and ill-conceived.  I asked the A.G. to please look into this.  

For all of you here who also are puzzled by this peculiar effort, I am going to call the legitimate number during regular business hours tomorrow to find out whether they have authorized this.

I received a call from an unidentified female.  She did not identify her company.  She alleged that she was taking a survey about mental health.  This is the second instance in which this seemingly bogus company has called.  I said that I did not accept surveys over the telephone and that if she would please mail it to me, I would be happy to respond.  She indicated that she was simply not listening.  Mentioned something about the CDC, but come on, the Centers for Disease Control does not cold call people.  Her argument was further undermined by saying that it would cost too much to send out a letter.  Since when does the CDC have such petty, petty concerns.

Do this person a favor, should she call you... tell her to send you the survey in the mail, wish her well, and politely hang up (that is more courtesy than she will provide you).

I am sick and tired of these annoying calls.  I never answer them when I see the number come up on my caller ID. At first I was concerned because I saw MD STATE GOV but then figured if it was that important they would leave a message.  No message was ever left.  However; I keep getting these calls all hours of the day and night.  I never answer them but it is still very annoying.  Just now got one and it was after 8;30 pm.  What gov. workers work after 8:30 pm that would find it so important to contact you???  None!   Other then not answering, what else can be done to stop this.  Any suggestions??

Caller has called severl times, fortunately for me I was not at home. My call ID says Md. State Govt.
Reading the above responses,State and Federal Governments do not operate in that manner. They usually communicate with the public by mail.

This continues - same as what has already been posted. Too many fishy questions. After asking how many males and females over the age of 18 live in the house I told they I did not wish to participate. They hung up saying they would call back another time. DON'T BOTHER!

Got a call checked this site they called at 8 pm did not answer this is a scam. Do not answer any questions!!!!!

This number keeps coming up on my caller id and I am going to block this number.They call between 6 pm and 8 pm.State offices are closed between these hours and I also am on the do not call list
