Richard, and I'm gonna call you "Dick", you say "We spend money every call that goes through."

In other words, "you don't spend money every time your robodialer illegally calls a cell phone or a business direct-dial line and someone hangs up on it while it's spewing its message."

Not. Good. Enough.

You need to stop the robocalls.  (But you already know that, and don't care.  ESAD, FOAD, DIAF, etc.)

Hello Richard.

Let me ask you a few questions then please respond.

First of all you use an autodialer and will call anybody and everybody. People will get calls at home, work, and even their cell phone. It is illegal for telemarketers to use a pre-recorded message to solicit on cell phones. You are breaking the law.

You have ZERO information about the person you call. Even teenagers will get calls on their cell phones asking them to extended their warranty on their car and they don't even own a car. Your pre-recorded message is set up in such a way that it sounds like you already have a warranty with you and it is about to expire.

Also why do you forge the Caller ID information? When your computer calls somebody, it does not display your real phone number and will be some other random number that is already disconnected. Why forge your caller ID number when you have nothing to hide?

How do I know this? Because I pretended I was interested in the "Warranty Service" and was able to get the real phone number for GAW from the "agent". After I got off the phone I dialed the number that was on the caller id and by no surprise it was disconnected. I dialed the 888-290-9711 I was given and nobody would give me a physical address of where you are located. Many times I was hung up on.

"reputable" companies to not hide behind false caller id information.

When you do press "1" to speak to an agent and you start asking questions about how they got this phone number they will hang up on you.

If you look at this site you will see thousands of people complaining of getting phone calls from you will false caller ID information and being hung up on after asking them who they were.

What was crazy is that I made up what kind of car I had and the "agent" asked me where I bought it and I totally made up some name of a dealer that does not exist. The "agent" then told me he brought it right up on his computer screen and was looking at my account.

reputable?

I think not.

I am a warranty agent from G.A.W. and I would just like to point out that a lot of the things you are saying are incorrect or outright lies. G.A.W. is a very reputable warranty agency as has been for many years. We help thousands of hard-working Americans protect themselves against the high and continually rising cost of parts and labor for repairs for their vehicles. I personally apologize if some of you have been contacted and not removed from the calling list. Think about it though... Do you think it is in our best interest as a company to waste money calling you if you do not want our service? absolutely not. We spend money every call that goes through. Feel free to respond to me with any questions or concerns.

Rec'd a call from this number, but didn't answer because I didn't know the number.  Plus, it was on my cell phone (T-Mobile).  There has to be a way to stop this from happening.

The Real Company behind this scam is

Great Atlantic Warranty (May use the name Warranty for Wheels)
Located in Winter Haven, Florida.

-----======* Real Phone Numbers *======------
888-290-9711 (toll Free) Ext 224 usually gets you somebody.
 Check is at extension 263
Try extensions from 224 and up and you will get other random people.

Non Toll Free Number for this company
863-294-5182 Phone Number located in Winter Haven, FL

They forge the caller ID and it usually always list a disconnected number.

The Scam goes like this.

They will use a dialer to call numbers including Businesses, Homes, and Cell Phones and a

pre-recorded message will come on the phone stating that your warranty is expired or set to

expire and to press 1 to speak to an agent. You press one and they ask you "Can I Have your

Customer Number". Of course you don't have one (and they know this) so they ask you the make

and model of your car and name so they can "look it up". Once you give them this information

(which can be totally bogus), they act like they just pulled up your account. They will then

try and sell you a 2 or 3 year warranty for your car for $2,500 or more. They will usually try

and get you to pay a larger fee to get it started which will be $400+

Sometimes the pre-recorded messages changes and how the answer the phone changes but the scam

is the same.

They do not honor the Do Not Call Registry and are also breaking the law by using a

pre-recorded message to Cell Phone Users. More info at
http://www.ftc.gov/opa/2005/04/dnc.shtm

Feel Free to call the numbers and give them a piece of your mind for bugging you all the time.

If you are on the do not call registry. Make sure though to give them the real phone numbers of the company that I provided.

Thanks AJ for digging up some info.  Is there anything we can do about it, it's great to have these forums, but does this help?

I received a call from this number a few days ago, as well as 406 454 1413 about an hour ago.  Didn't answer, no message.

Well it looks like these guys have moved on to another number. A few hours ago when you called 410-823-2439 you got a fast busy signal. Now when you call it a voice says it is disconnected.

Not sure why they told me California in another call (maybe to throw me off), but they are located in Winter Haven, FL. I received a call back from them from a non-toll-free line which was 863-294-5182.

Got some more info. I was finally able to talk to another lady that actually gave me some information or she was pulling my chain. You never know with these kind of people.

Anyway she told me she was based in Winter Haven Florida (the other one was in California). I tried to be really nice and get to the bottom of who is responsible of making these calls. She told me that it is a separate company that sends calls to over 500 Car Warranty companies. And they pay $1 for each one that gets transfered to them.

Not sure I believe her since I called the phone number that the original sales rep gave me which would seem to only go to their company. Not some other one in Florida.

To get to her I called the Number 888-290-9711 - Pressed # for a directory and then pressed 7 and then #. Using this method it seems you can get many different random people.

The Real Company behind this scam is

Great Atlantic Warranty or Warranty for Wheels located in California.
Real Phone Number is 1-888-290-9711
You can Dial Many Extensions Including Chuck at 263 and you seem to get random people at 224.

Your caller ID will always show a FALSE number for this company.

Work your way up from Extension 224 and you can get more people.

I have been getting calls from these people from quite some time now to my home phone number. Today I got one to my Cell Phone!

Here is how it works. They call you up and you get a pre-recorded message about your warranty about to expire. You press one to go to an "agent". This person will ask you what your custom number is. I don't know if they have real customers of if this is a way to make you think that they already are doing business with you. You tell them you don't know what it is and then they ask you about your car.

I game them a name and model of a car that I don't own or have never owned. They then PRETENDED that they saw the car I owned on their computer system and asked me if I wanted to extend the warranty on it.

I played around with them and was able to get their phone number which is the one listed on top. If you are as mad as I am about them calling and want to give them a piece of your mind, feel free to call the 888 number and try extensions starts at 224 and up.

Received a call at my work, got transfered to the "Warranty Department" where they immediately asked for year make and model of my car. (i ride a motorcycle) They didn't say what company they were with but they can be tracked by their number 410 823 2439. I knew this is just some kind of telemarketing scheme they are using so I just hung up.

Same deal from the "your-car-warranty-is-about-to-expire" people--an automated call.  I pressed 1 to speak with an agent, which was my only choice.  I was transferred to a person who immediately asked for the vehicle year, make & model.  I asked, "Where did you get my #?" since this was my cell phone.  She hung up.

How do we stop this illegal activity?

Got call on my cell phone, about expiring vehicle warranty, press 1 to talk to agent. Asked agent to remove me from their list, asked me form my number, told agent that since you called me you already have my number. Agent told me that they never called me, it's all automatic. I asked for the name of the company and they hung up.
