Got a call from this number, but they didn't wait to ring through to the answering machine

Sounds like we are seeing a new trend or marketing ploy: cold-calls that give no info, so the only way to figure out what they are about is to call back yourself. It's an interesting way around the do-not-call policy and its consequences for companies; the consumer can't persuasively state they are being unfairly or illegally harrassed, because they made the call back themselves! It relies on human curiousity to bypass annoying telemarketing.

Like many others here, I just ignore the call if I feel like it. This is my phone; I pay for it, and I can chose not to answer it if I want to. I am under no obligation to respond to annoyances. If I miss out on  "the opportunity of a lifetime!", that's just my own fault, isn't it? Also, I know that calliing some numbers can incur uncommunicated charges, that the instituion holding the number slaps you with and hopes you either won't notice, or that they can bully you into accepting.

I really appreciate these forums, for collectivizing people's experiences with particular numbers and sharing the information. It lets us be curious without putting ourselves at risk to the predatory elements who try to bilk us of our money and peace of mind.

Keep Calling. Told my number is on Do-Not-Call list and asked to be removed. They guy on the phone insist, they are non-profit and Do-Not-Call list does not apply and asking for donation for wounded solders. We got call again today, same thing. This time he says although Do-Not-Call list does not apply to his telemarketing organization, he is going to place my number to their own Do-Not-Call list. What a NUT.

Tired of these calls 3 - 5 a day. What's going on here? Something needs to be done about this ! Calls at night are the most bothersome. Seems to me our privacy is invaded. What say you ??

someone called today. No one said anything. Its just awful, all of these scammers......

These people have called several calls but never leave a message. If you try to call back the number is always busy. Who are they and why do they call?

I just got a call in MD

Got a call from this number right now... When you call it back it says "Sorry you missed our call. To save money on car insurance and speak to a representative press 1 now. To be removed from our calling list press 2 now." When you press 2 the call ends immediately. I called it back twice and both times it just disconnected as soon as I clicked 2. It didn't give me a confirmation or say anything at all. It doesn't say the name of the company or anything. So I called back a 3rd time and pressed #1 to see what it was all about and as soon as I pressed 1, immediately a woman's voice came on the line ans said "Hello" I started to converse with her a little bit, her voice sounded like a real person but you could tell it was an automated system. I give them props because this lady sounded super real for the most part. I asked where she was calling from and she said "American Insurance Center" She asked if I would allow her to transfer me to a representative that would be able to save me money so I told her yes. There was "hold" music playing for about 3 seconds and then a man answered the phone and said "Hi Leslie this is David from Nationwide, are you ready to start saving some money today" So I just laughed at him and told him that I did not own a vehicle and wanted to know why I received this call. He said "ma'am I have absolutely no idea, I didn't call you. I just answered my phone." So that is how it ended. I guess it's just a call center trying to cold call people or something... Hope this helps y'all
