They are from IDT, an electric supplier. When they call they say they are Duquesne Lights largest supplier and they try to get you to choose them to supply your electricity. Like previous posts have said, you'd still get one bill from DL, with a rate for the distribution (from them) and a rate for the generation (from DL). I use a different supplier who gave me a better rate than this company and they will not stop calling. The are rude and I have told them they've called me a dozen times and they always say no, we've never called you, meanwhile I can prove they have, their number is on my cell phone a dozen times.

Me: Sorry?
Caller: <Repeat>
Me: But who's that?
Caller: <Hang up>

Be very careful of this number, and those like it...I'm a business owner, and tv reporter. I received a call from this number, where they claimed my biz acct was delinquent. They asked for too much info, but sadly knew too much also. Neither my biz or personal accts are delinquent. It was a phishing scam that could have been very costly...do not pick up any calls from this #. Good luck! Sad all the good people have to deal with this.

I just filed a complaint with PA do not call list and with a few more, hopefully these scum will be shut down.

I've got calls from this number on several phones that I own or use as part of my work.  The only one they got through on was one of the work phones, the rest were dead silence or a brief silence and a hang-up.  It appears that they are "robot-calling", but if you are on a "do not call" list (the work phone wasn't), they have to hang up or they're breaking the law.

I've seen missed calls from this number on my cell phone numerous times.  Over the last few days I picked up and got silence 2 or 3 times.  Today someone answered and asked for the person in charge of the Duquesne Light bill.  When I insisted on knowing what company she belonged to, she said IDC Energy.  When I told her I've switched providers already, and I'd like them to stop calling me, she hung up on me even before I was finished talking.  If they really are from IDC Energy, there's no way I would want to buy anything from them after this behavior.

Got a call from this number today - The rep gave a long winded speech on how I am paying fees because I dont have a provider.  I said I pay a bill so someone is giving me power, he said no one is your provider.  At this point he was getting rude, so I began to ask them "Tell me more about electricity".  The rep then yelled hope you enjoy over paying and then hung up.  This company is a bunch of misfits.

Got 2 calls yesterday and 1 already this morning. After I answered about 7 seconds later the call just dropped.

I just experienced two hang-ups from this number today as well.

Duquesne Light was required to pass on their list of customers to the PA Utilities Commission.  The commission then passed the list on to any other electric company-due to new laws/regulations.  If you look on www.papowerswitch.com, it is a non-bias website that goes into detail of the different options we now have.  BE CAREFUL-almost all of them have a couple hundred dollars in cancellation fees.  I am not saying Duquesne Light is the cheapest or best, but just be careful!!  It is annoying that they do keep calling us, but just giving you background.

I received a call from this number, showed on caller id, in the afternoon. I do not answer phone calls from numbers I don't know so I can't say who it was my apologies. The ring of the call did not last as long as a normal call and the caller did not leave a message. Thus far I've only received this call, one call, from this number.

I just received a call from this number. The woman claimed she was a representative for a company above duquesne light and wanted me to provide information so they could apply a "rate reduction." I told her that I questioned her legitimacy and she got indignant and told me they'd send information 3 days after i gave them my information (total red flag for a scam). I asked her to send the information first, and told her that my service with duquesne light would be ending this month, and she abruptly hung up on me. DO NOT GIVE YOUR INFORMATION!

I just got this call on my cell. I even have an out of state cell number. I tried to call back after reading all of these comments and the call can't be completed.

These guys are serious as$ho%#s!!!! After saying I'm not interested in saving money on my electric bill I asked them to stop calling me. The Rep becomes rude with me, I get pissed and we get into a shouting match. The way I got her off the phone is by asking her,?what is your name and employee or rep number.? so I cann call your superior and report you. It worked until the started calling from a different nbr. Smh

got a call from this number today and no one said a word. over the past week an unknown number called me every day with the same response but today it showed me the number. its starting to really piss me off. i would like to get their number and call them repeatedly everyday.

Just got a call from that number.  He spoke so fast I asked him to repeat what he said.  He did (I think).  I said "I can't understand a word that you're saying."  He said "then you don't speak English" and hung up.  What an a***ole.

I've rec'd several calls from this number.  The most notable was yesterday when there were three women on the phone noting that NONE of us had called anybody and that for all three of us the answer was the same... "I didn't call YOU! You called ME"..

I've been called by this number multiple times over the past few weeks on my cell. There is never anything but dead silence on the other end, followed by a quick disconnect.

This most recent time a few minutes ago, I just answered without making any noise and the same thing happened.

I'm glad some of you have actually spoken to people about electricity on this line. My first thought was that it was someone trying to figure out whether anyone was home (because of the spate of burglaries in Shadyside).

I'm getting calls from this number they don't say anything then call the number and get a recording not a good number.i'm duquense lightcustomer but for that have anything to do with them.

This is not Duquesne Light but rather a third party retail electric provider.  They provide rates on electricity that is still supplied by your utility (and if you sign up with one, you may still receive a bill from the utility for transmission and distribution charges, in addition to whatever they're offering you.)

I received a call on my cell phone from this number while I was at work.  The woman told me that she was from Duquesne Light and that they were overbilling me and I was due a refund.  Then she said that I was due for a rate reduction and she just needed information from me.

My response:  "Are you talking about a refund or a fixed rate on my service?  Also, are you from Duquesne Light or a retail electric provider?"

She told me that she was from "the" electricity supplier.  

My response:  "No, I actually know what that is and I want to know: are you saying you work for Duquesne Light?  You see, I work for an electric provider at <my company's name.>"

As soon as I said my company's name, she hung up instantly.  

If you get a call from these people, make sure that they are presenting themselves honestly.  If they are not, it's called customer slamming, they are trying to use high pressure or deceptive tactics to get you to agree to a contract with them, and this comes with stiff penalties in most deregulated markets where retail electric providers can operate.  Contact your state's public utility commission and file a complaint.

DL customer. Just got a call from them, I could tell someone was there and I could hear background noise as well, but they didn't answer and hung up after I said hello a few times. What would the purpose of that be?

I have gotten calls (different number) from those "alternative" energy companies. They are rude and pushy and I finally got them to stop calling but I don't remember how. Maybe I told them I don't have an electric bill anymore... but the calls stopped. Their pitch is very deceptive; they are not up front about who they are and refuse to send the details through the mail.

Same situation. An alternate electric supplier with a boring script that tries to make a hard sale. After saying I'm not interested they keep pushing...and pushing...and pushing...and when I asked to be put on the no call list they hung up on me. What an ethical company. When they call I always listen--that way I can waste their time and energy explaining it though I know I'll not be using it anyway!

Same as everyone else, "Are you in charge of the Duquesne Light bill?" Then they went from a script about saving money. I said I'm not interested, they continued to press me about it. I told them this was my cell phone and I don't care if I save $1000/month. I'd rather live in a gutter than buy anything that someone is selling who calls my cell phone. Then they just hung up. I'm like to find this person and beat the **** out of them for hanging up on me.

Same sort of deal here.  The woman on the other end called be my name (CREEPY) and said she heard I don't have an electric supplier.  I informed her I do have electric but I have no control over it since I live in an apartment. She asked who the supplier was and I refused to answer (I use DL).  I hung up.

I think the most worrisome part is that the caller knew my first name.

I just got a call from the number and they eventually talked.  They asked me by name (creepy) whether it was correct that I do not have an electric supplier. I informed them I did have a supplier so they asked who it was.  I refused to answer after explaining that I live in an apartment building and have no control over who our electric supplier was.  Finally i told them i can't talk because i'm in the library (which is completely true) and hung up.  Very weird.

Now I see what the folks in the forum mean. Although I use it - boy! - does the above posting look like a shill for the paid version of PhoneTray. A little over the top.
