I get a call from this number about 3 times a day.  Since I have caller ID and this number appears as an unknown number I do not answer but it is annoying.  I am on the 'do not call list'.

To those of you who have indicated you work at these call centers, what is your defense for me receiving 5 calls a day? Especially when I am in class at a different college because it took your school a year and a half before it decided my money was important.

If it was one call a day, that would be one thing, but because I get so many flippin' calls from you guys each and every day, the easist thing for me to do is put every single one of you guys on my reject list. There is plenty of room for you all, so please keep on calling so I can keep adding numbers.

Or maybe telemarketers should stop intruding on our lives. That would be nice. I pick up the phone and hang it up right away. How's that?

Or, I tell the people who call me three to five times a week to knock it off. They still call.

Then you answer and get someone on the other end that you cannot understand because they can't speak English.

That's why we don't answer.

I've had calls from a similar number: 412-395-8624. I did find elsewhere that the block of phone numbers from 412-395-8000 to -9999 are reserved for a TSG communications company (phone provider) in Pittsburgh, PA.  I am inclined to guess that the number calling originates in a call center. I've heard of such an arrangement with another number that called me for awhile.  The call center followed up on web inquiries about the school - answering questions about admissions, programming, majors, etc. Thing is, the folks at the call center do it for any of a number of schools.  I've looked at about a dozen schools online recently looking for certain types of masters degree programs. None of these are in PA.  I have filled out info requesting more info from several so not sure which particular one is calling repeatedly.  If I ever figure it out though rest assured they will be off my list simply because of this stupid tactic of repeatedly calling people, during the day while they are at work.

I got a call from this number twice, and I didn't answer.  The first time I wasn't near my phone.  The second time I was on the road, and I don't touch my phone while I'm driving.  Anyhow, I'm currently in college, and I have no idea why I would be getting calls from another school?  I'm glad to know it's not some telemarketer calling to scam me.  That's another reason why I haven't answered my phone as often as I used to.

The funny thing is that when I worked for a school that called leads, I loved to call people that got pissed off and hung up lol. Not only did it change the day to day garbage but it was kinda funny too. I'm sure a lot of people that work in these types of jobs think the same way too...many have no long term career goals and sales backgrounds. I didn't care if you got mad, wasn't my fault you gave your number to some random website. People are so afraid of identity theft and crap like that but you'll list your personal phone number and address on a website claiming it'll show you want you're seaching for if you just put your information in, or you fill out an entry ticket to win a free car at the mall. This is how companies get your information and then bug you. You google a school and give them your phone number, chances are it's not the schools website but some 3rd party company's that turns a few bucks off you by selling your info to 5 schools. That's how it works and it's not hard to figure out.

Ok, so I just got another call from this number. It was Argosy University. I honestly do not remember contacting them, but perhaps I did. The woman left a message this time at least so that I know who called me. I keep my cell with me at my desk at work, but am not at liberty to answer it if I see a call coming through. Between 8 and 5 while I am at work is always when these uunknown numbers call me. Therefore they typically remain a mystery. But this time I actually got an answer as to 'who'.
However, there have been times when through my own exasperation I have picked up the call and simply listened without saying hello. I heard what sounded like a TV in the back ground and heard someone with a thick Indian accent say, "uh, hello?". To which I replied, "Who are you? What do you want?". The person then asked me (without the accent, although it was still discernable) if I was *insert name here* and I told them never to call me again.
All in all I have to admit that things such as these bother me, whereas to say, they make me nervous. Maybe I am an idiot as 'that guy' posted earlier....but when you discover one day that your bank account was mysteriously drained despite the fact that your purse never left your side and you still have the debit card in your wallet with which these phantom purchases were made...   you tend to get a little leary of strangers.
Peace and security to you all.

I am at work and cannot answer.  When I am able to answer and tell them no I do not want info please take me off your list,  I get hung up on or they don't take me off the list and call again.   So you will exscuse me if I get tired of talking to random people using up my minutes to tell them time and time again  NO THANK YOU!

to your response...if you pay your phone bill and wish to not recieve phone calls from random odd #s then you have that rightto answer the phone or not...I find it odd that someone who is preaching about ppl not answering their phones when a strange # shows is leaving a comment on a "whos calling me " website! If we are to miss out on a "radio contest" that would be our loss and perhaps they would call you.. see the thing of it is this: when you receive calls from an UNSOLICITATED source -its pretty frustrating esp, when thbey call relentlessly and if you hang up they call right back. perhaps youshould stay off these websites if it bothers you that these "idiots" wish to not be othered on their PRIVATE number and wonder who the heck is calling them and not leaving a message.... so heres to you" That Guy"

besides, why should i waste my time answering a nagging, continuous call when common sense should tell you if i wanted any, i'd pick up or call back?  the only reason you're calling is bc you're paid to.  i'm not paid to answer so i have no reason to if it doesn't benefit me. it's not my fault you lack common sense.

amen. leave a message if it's important. if we think it's important to us, we'll call back. we're not 'hard to get a hold of' as i'm sure college reps are well aware. they just have low end jobs and keep calling, knowing they're being annoying and knowing that if it were important to us, we'd call back, otherwise, f*** off.

they just try to justify their jobs by continuing to call.

I dont like to answer these calls because I have had a lot of problems with identity theft and such. I dont answer these calls and wait to see if they leave a message (and I am usually at work also and cannot pick up the phone). I have to say that it is a bit unsettling to go thru my call history for the span of 2 days, and see that a number I dont know has called me approximately 25 times in quick succesion, and yet, they leave no message. I think that if what they are calling about is important enough for my time, they would leave a message regarding their reason for contacting me.

these jobs are for people that know that they are not going to go anywhere and can only call and bother people. Talk about a waste of a career.

You should find a new line of work besides harassing people with cold calls to their homes.  It's my right to not answer your call trying to sell me some crap I don't want.

You should answer your phones!  How hard is it to answer a phone and if you are not interested...hang up?!?!  I mean really people  Are we living such a time of fear that people see a strange number and don't answer because they don't know who is on the other end?  Keep ignoring those calls and you may just miss out on some radio station doing a random give away.  Or it could be a scam.  But you being the smart person you are would pick up on that and then you know what you do??? You guessed it!  Hang up!  Idiots.

and we only call people whos information is sent to us (usually by that person). if you don't want called by someone, don't put your number on a website..duh.

if someone kindly asks me to stop calling them or delete their number from the computer, i'm cool with that. ignore it and someone will just think you're tough to reach - and keep calling
