Beware, it is scammers calling you. They will tell you that they are calling from US Dept of Treasury and Government is gonna give you $5000 that you don't have to pay back. I got a call from this 248-777-4689 today. Since I make lot of international calls, I know that the origination of the call happens somewhere outside USA. The 248-277-4689 is just a pass-thru number that appears on your caller id. The guy gave me his name as John and asked me to call "Grant Officer" Mr. Kevin at 413-776-4611. He asked me some questions about zip code, marital status, age etc. as well.  John is heavily accented --not American, probably middle eastern or Asian trying to fake American accent. He also told me to use $5000 for something "good" such as home improvement, mortgage pymt. etc. and not use it for gambling, drinking etc.  What a Saint!

This may be an attempt to steal identity

I also recieved a call from these guys, but when i started questioning them they got defensive and then I "lost the connection" they then called back later and tried gain. The person calling said his name is Steve and his manager is Kevin, and if I had questions I could call him at this number. I agree with the others that this is probable a scam.

Same thing happened to me. I randomly received a money order for $5000 from the US Government Treasure according to this guy who works at Wamu. I was skeptical from the beginning and he was really anxious for me to go to a Wamu asap. I told him earliest is after work so he said to call him when I'm at the bank. I asked him where he's located and he said MA. So I asked him why he would be in the office to just wait for me to call when it'll be about 8PM Eastern time. He also said he will give me a 10 digit confirmation # when I call him at Wamu. I asked him why he couldn't give it to me now and he said because he didn't want to leave the money at Wamu for longer than needed. Which doesnt make sense since he first said he was working at a Wamu in MA. So when I asked, he didn't know what to say. What losers!

I just received this call from (212) 121-2121 as well with the same story. They were trying to tell me that the government has issued me a grant for $5000 because I pay my taxes and bills on time. All I had to do to get my money was was call 413-776-4611 and talk to a manager. The manager then told me to go to any Western Union with a valid ID and $199 for address verification, which is immediately refunded to me, and call him from there. When I began to ask questions, they really had no answer for me as to the reasoning for this grant.

This is one of those scams that preys on gullable people who go down there and give them their account info thinking they are going to get all this money for free. There is no such thing as free money and like your mother always said; if it sounds to good to be true, then it probablly is.

Don't trust this number...it's a scam. Telling you to pick up grant money at Western Union. Don't give them any info even though they tell you they don't ask for account info, etc. They get as far as trying to verify your address first but I ended the conversation before it could go further. They will also call from an unknown number also. They use the name American Financial Solutions.
