Hopefully the info I posted 1/29/14 will be helpful to you. This is a SCAM and is being investigated by proper authorities. Best advice is to report these callers to your local police. Get the number reported and added on the "list". Believe me . .  these scum bags are not "playing on the phones".

I started getting this call from (620) 842-8118,- says his name is Devin Davis,  (916) 426-2859 - says his name is Michael Williams, and at (414) 301-7782 - says his name is Dale Wilkinson, sounds to be all from the same guy, strong Indian Accent, gives different names, then claims to be an attorney from the States Attorney General's Office, then claims to be an attorney from Oak View Legal Services, a Law Office in Sacramento, CA. He demands my attorney's contact information to contact him/her regarding a pay day loan I refused to pay back to his client. I don?t have any pay day loans! He does not give a proper introduction, won?t provide any details of a case, nothing, but claims to know information about where I work and live. He's called my cell phone and calls my work # daily, up to 10 times a day, claims he is coming to my work and home with the Police/Sherrf, and I am being investigated and will be arrested for not paying back a cash loan I took out with his client. When I press for details as to who he is, who his client is, etc., he hangs up on me. I call back the number on my ID and he continues to hang up on me when I demand he cease & desist from ever contacting me ever again and that of my employer. Clearly, this is a scam and an aggravating one at that. Anyone else that continues to get these phone numbers should provide them to their local Police Department for assistance as well as report them to the States Attorney General?s Office, and any other office that protects consumers from fraud.

they left a threatening phone message (I don't answer area codes I don't know)  saying he feels sorry for me as the situation unfolds on me for me to return his call. I've received over 20 calls in the last 3 days. This happened last year too and after calling back and threatening them, they stopped calling. I do not want to go through this again!! He has now called my work! How did he get that number? Face book I'm sure. I locked all of my personal information on FB and changed all of my passwords.

Just received a call from the 414-301-7782 number looking for a co-worker.  Same guy, thick, heavy Indian accent, said he was from Oak View Law Firm.

When I asked what it was in reference too he refused to answer.

My very next step was to google the number, and voila! here I am.

Thanks to whoever runs this site.  It's been so incredibly useful to me in the past with numbers I've not recognized on my home phone and cell phone.

I too have received calls on my cell phone from the following numbers: 414 301 7782 , 856 583 1549  , 817 768 8833 , 916 426 6621 , 754 999 1792. I also got call from a really strange number with all zero's. The first time I got a call I answered it as I was curious why someone from an area code I didn't recognize was calling me. I answered and it was a man with a heavy Indian accent. He said his name, I don't remember the name he gave. However, it was too American sounding of a name to be his is what I do remember. The guy goes on to tell me something about a lawsuit or legal issue that involves my social security number. Immediately I am already thinking this sounds fishy, and makes no sense. I ask him where are you calling from? what place/company are you calling me from? he dodges the questions rudely and obnoxiously repeats what he already told me about my social security number. So at this point I realized this man was obviously some kind of scamer. I told him don't call me again and send me something in the mail if you need to reach me. Since that call I had answered I have continued to receive calls from different numbers. Sometimes they leave a voice mail, and yes its always a man with a very heavy and heard to understand Indian accent. For now I have just been declining the calls on my cell phone and then blocking the numbers. If they ever call my job I will be going to the police to file a compliant. These people are such pathetic low life's to spend every day calling people to harass and scam them!

Read my post. These are hardcore criminals attempting to extort money for phantom debts. Let them know you are aware they are running an extortion scam, your employer has tapped their phone lines and law enforcement is monitoring their calls. Be sure and print off a copy of this thread and give it to your employer.

They keep calling my cell phone and my place of employment claiming I owe money. They will not provide me the name of the company I am suppose to owe this money too. Also, they refuse to provide me with any written proof of the debt. They just keep yelling and telling me I can be arrested.

This is a criminal extortion scam operating out of India. They are making the calls utilizing VOIP and the names of legitimate firms to make it appear the calls are originating from within the US. There is NO "company" or "debt" and you will NOT be arrested. They are harvesting and/or buying consumers' personal identifying information and you need to do whatever you can to protect yourself. This includes: Notifying the FTC: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/, placing fraud alerts with all three credit bureaus, notifying your bank and employer and letting these criminals know you are aware they are attempting to extort money for a non-existent debt and have alerted the authorities.

Read this investigative report ABC News did on this scam:

Hundreds of thousands of cash-strapped Americans have been targeted by abusive debt collectors operating out of overseas call centers suspected of links to organized crime in India, law enforcement officials told ABC News.

The calls are part of a massive scam, one that appears to target struggling Americans -- especially those who have gone online to apply for payday loans. Armed with personal information from those pilfered applications, the threatening callers, who claim to be debt collectors poised to initiate legal action, have managed to pry loose millions of dollars from their victims -- even when the victims never owed money in the first place.

"This is what we call a phantom debt collection scam," said Jon Leibowitz, the chairman of the Federal Trade Commission. "It's a very pernicious and innovative new fraud."

Working through call centers in India, the commission estimates that the criminals have dialed at least 2.5 million calls, persuading already cash-strapped victims to send them more than $5 million. Some have reported receiving dozens of calls per hour. They are victims like Cindy Gervais, of New Orleans, who went online for a quick loan when her husband's car was hit by a driver who didn't have insurance.

Even though she paid the loan off, the so-called "phantom" debt collectors with Indian accents began calling to say she still owed money.

"He more or less told me that if I didn't pay, they were going to have someone on my doorstep to arrest me," she told ABC News. "And that they were going to contact my place of business, and tell them what kind of person I am."

At first, she said she resisted. Then the calls became more frequent, and started to ring on her cell phone, and at the grocery distribution company where she had worked for 27 years.

"I was more or less in panic mode because he told me there would be someone before noon at my place of business to arrest me and take me to jail," she said tearfully. "So I agreed to pay him."

After receiving scores of complaints, investigators with the FTC said they began tracking the calls, and following the payments. They alleged the payments led them to a California company run by an Indian-American named Kirit Patel, and that such scams would not be possible without American front men.

"I would say that all roads of this scam, or many of the roads of this scam, lead back to Mr. Patel," said the FTC's Leibowitz.

ABC News tracked Patel for weeks, from the suburbs of San Francisco to Austin, Texas.

Patel refused to talk. But his lawyer, Mark Ellis, said he believes it is far too early to pass judgment on his client. Ellis, a Sacramento-based attorney, told ABC News that Patel was hired for a nominal fee to set up an American shell company, and had no idea what the call centers in India were doing.

"I can tell you, he was as snookered by the people in India as anybody," Ellis said. "He's a 69-year-old man who is nearing his retirement who thought all he had to do was set up some corporations and everything was on the up and up. He's completely dismayed that he has become the lightning rod of this entire problem."

A close friend of Patel's also defended him in a brief interview at his home, saying Patel was not trying to defraud anyone -- he was just an unwitting, bit player in a larger scheme.

I keep getting calls and voice messages from this phone #414-301-7782 both on my cell phone and my work phone!
It is a male w/ a very heavy Middle Eastern accent... very difficult to understand
his message.  Only a handful of words recognizable to the English speaking person: time-sensative, hotline, the phone number, and his name "Mark Johnson"... yeah, right  I am reporting this.  This cannot be ok for someone to do...???

I got a call from this number also.  Stating he was going to have me arrested if I did not pay.  Had all my information, eventhough I do not have a loan at all.  I got really pisse because he called my job.  I told him do not call my job and go ahead and arrest me.  I report them to the Internet Crime.  They get your information, and many of them call from different states and different codes on phones especially cell phones.  It is a scam everyone.  We live in the United States and people overseas can harass us like this.

This # just called my phone 3 times within a min, last one actually left a vm for my husband and it was the same ole dance regarding an urgent matter and that we needed to call or have our attorney call.  This time his name was Clyde Walker.  They called yesterday for me from 334-819-1716.  I wish to say that the FBI takes this seriously but when I had a call last yr and they threatened my life as well as my families, I was advised by the FBI that its a local police matter.  They will do this every 6 months, just as stated by a previous post.  They get your info if you go and look for any type of loan from online, which we recently did for a car loan.  You cant do anything safe online anymore.  These ppl from overseas have no lives and have to threaten anyone, anyway they can in America.

THIS IS A SCAM!!  I filled out some info on a website back in 2006 and didn't follow through. Never gave banking info or SS# (thank goodness). These idiots have hacked into these websites to get your personal info and relentlessly bug you.
They will stop calling me and then it all starts up again. Happens about every 6 months. I've kept logs of dates and numbers . . there is a pattern . . they NEVER stop. I keep reporting these numbers to the proper authority.
You notice that these people speak with a very heavy Indian accent . .  they don't live in the USA. They make up all the info on where they are from. ALSO . . you notice they do not give a toll free number to return their call . . another red flag. A legitimate collection company or legal institution would provide a toll free number. This standard operating procedure. A legit business of this nature would not make you pay for a log distance call.
ALSO . . I've noticed they try to trick you by changing their phone #s often.I've had the SAME person call me the SAME day in less than 1 hour in between the calls . . recognize the voice and name. One phone # was (414)3017782 and the other
(305)8319754. Notice the different area codes??? Do they think I'm THAT stupid?? They lie . . a lot.
I let it go to voicemail! The messages are recorded! I've learned not to pick up these calls . . caller ID is a beautiful thing.
Oh, and if you talk to your local police . . you can't be arrested for defaulting on a payday loan. You would be served with a legitimate court summons from the law office. Again standard operating procedure.

There is an ongoing investigation with the US Attorney General Office and the FBI. You can search the US Attorney General website and type is pay day loan scams. Here are some details of this investigation below. There are many other reports on the website you can review regarding same types of scams.

Extortion Scam Related to Delinquent Payday Loans
Washington, D.C.
December 07, 2010

FBI National Press Office
(202) 324-3691

The Internet Crime Complaint Center has received many complaints from victims of payday loan telephone collection scams. Callers claim the victim is delinquent in a payday loan and must repay the loan to avoid legal consequences. The callers purport to be representatives of the FBI, Federal Legislative Department, various law firms, or other legitimate-sounding agencies. They claim to be collecting debts for companies such as United Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Net, and other Internet check-cashing services.

According to complaints received from the public, the callers have accurate data about victims, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, employer information, bank account numbers, and the names and telephone numbers of relatives and friends. How the fraudsters obtained the personal information varies, but in some cases victims have reported they completed online applications for other loans or credit cards before the calls started.

The fraudsters relentlessly call the victim?s home, cell phone, and place of employment. They refuse to provide any details about the alleged payday loans and become abusive when questioned. The callers have threatened victims with legal actions, arrests, and, in some cases, physical violence if they do not pay. In many cases, the callers harass victims? relatives, friends, and employers.

Some fraudsters have instructed victims to fax a statement agreeing to pay a certain amount, on a specific date, via a pre-paid Visa card. The statement further declares the victim will never dispute the debt.

If you receive these calls, do not follow the caller?s instructions. Rather, you should:
?Notify your banking institutions.
?Contact the three major credit bureaus and request an alert be put on your file.
?Contact your local law enforcement agencies if you feel you are in immediate danger.
?File a complaint at www.IC3.gov.

Tips to avoid becoming a victim of this scam:
?Never give your Social Security number?or personal information of any kind?over the telephone or online unless you initiate the contact.
?Be suspicious of any e-mail with urgent requests for personal financial information. The e-mail may include upsetting or exciting but false statements to get you to react immediately.
?Avoid filling out forms in e-mail messages that request personal information.
?Ensure that your browser is up-to-date and security patches have been applied.
?Check your bank, credit, and debit card statements regularly to make sure that there are no unauthorized transactions. If anything looks suspicious, contact your bank and all card issuers.
?When you contact companies, use numbers provided on the back of cards or statements

Received a call at work today from "Michael Jones" claiming to be from Oakville or Oak View Law Firm. He stated that there was a lawsuit against me and knew the last four of my social. When I asked for more information he became very rude and hung up. Later on he called my cell phone and once again stated that there is a lawsuit against me. I asked for more information and he asked if he could connect me to another person for more information. I said no, that he could tell me and he hung up. Moments later I got a call from an international number which I did not answer. Immediately following, the same 414-301-7782 number called back. I answered and he, "Michael Jones", told me that he was taking legal action against me and that my local sheriff's office would visit my house (he gave my full address) and that they had an arrest warrant and a subpoena for me and then he hung up. He immediately called right back at which point my husband spoke to him and he hasn't called back since.

About a week ago my personal information was compromised via internet.  I feel this is somehow connected to that.
