It's doubtful that person will see a direct refund. Notice "MoneyGram" was mentioned. These scammers love wire transfer precisely because once you commit to payment you have no path back from Fraud Victim's Remorse. Again, you and the OP will have to sue for relief provided the debt collector is domestic.

I got the same call today...and I paid it...later to find out it was a scam.  I dont know how to get the money back? Did you ever get the money back?

The business name spelling I have is Weinberg, Cochran, Coulson, & Irwin. You and your friend seriously need to learn your state and federal collections laws, and understand that debt is considered a civil matter in the U.S. Anyone who bullies you for money on the phone and talks "jail" or "police" is a liar and begging for punishment, preferably a lawsuit you file, expenses paid by the offending loser.

Lesson Two is to think and think again before acting. Your first reflex when strangers come collecting cannot be to ask how to pay, but make them prove you owe! Almost certainly an agency which relies heavily on illegal fear tactics *never* has proof of claim.

I received a call from WCCI looking for a friend of mine (don't know how they got my cell #).  Alleged unpaid account with a payday loan company, said she would be arrested within a couple of hours if she didn't pay.  Yesterday, I loaned her the money to pay - we since found out it was a scam and now I'm trying to get my money back.  District Attorney, Police, MoneyGram, have all been contacted.  Number I received the call from was 414-877-2023 (Cindy Johnson).
