This Bridgeport Financial is is way beyond their limits.
I got a call from them last week saying my Gym has forwarded a case to them to collect my debt. I was utterly surprised as I had autopay set up and nobody ever contacted me saying that there was any issue in any month's payment.
Anyway, the guy was polite and said they will send me a letter and upon verification I can pay. It won't be reported to credit agency soon.
Then today I got another call from a lady named Linda and I told her I have no issues in paying but need to check my card statements to make sure that it was not a mistake. She kept on rudely telling me if I don't want to pay, it's my wish, but they are gonna report to credit agencies. All I wanted to say is that I am more than happy to pay right away if I owe someone as it is my responsibility. But since all this stuff came as a surprise to me, I just need to make sure it is all correct. She again replied rudely saying she does not time to listen to me. and hung up the phone on my face. I then called them to file a complaint about her behavior and some other lady answered. When I told about this, she also was not ready to listen and told me I was a debtor not a customer, as if that gives them the right to talk rudely to people.
I am seeking a way about how to handle this and lodge a complaint against them.
THIS GUY IS NUTS!

I have beem getting phone calls from this number for almost six months.  I don't answer calls I don't know, and they never leave a message.  So today I looked up the number online and got this site. I returned the call and the person on the phone couldn't even pronounce the name of the person she was looking for supposedly at this number. I repeated my number and asked them why they continue to call and not say who they are, or what they want? The woman said it was personal business matter.  I told her if it was about business they could leave a message stating what business, because if someone owes money, you need to make sure they know. She told me that evidentally someone is giving out my number or that I'm the person they're looking for.  I was livid.  I told her that's impossible because I've had the phone number forever, and that I have no outstanding bills. I ended the call by saying don't call my number ANYMORE.  I've decided that I'm going to start calling the number 415-216-4695 as often as I think about it.  I have free long distance.  I'm going to call and just hang up or waste their time with dumb questions, using a fake name and claiming I know I owe them money and want to pay it.  Or maybe I'll call and ask for a supervisor and then proceed to tell them they have an outstanding bill that needs to be paid.  This might make them think twice before harassing people over the phone.  Especially a cell phone.
Tierd of calls from 415-216-2453!!

Some guy called this morning saying he was from BRIDGEPORT FINANCIAL--this was a business call & not a solication or sales call; he had called a couple of days ago & had no response yet (I don't wonder why?) and left his name ("Manny" something, which you could not understand) and the phone # 415-216-468x something, again which you could not understand, and a "reference number".

Problem is that the number he called was reassigned to me a couple of months ago & the person he is looking for is not here--call was not & will not be returned.

If someone owed me a bunch of money I'd call them one thousand times per day at all hours of the day and night.  I'd call their friends, relatives, and bosses until I got the money that they stole from me.

Mr Tinsley is probably an alias used by many different collectors.  They are not allowed to identify themselves as collectors until they have confirmed that they are speaking with the actual debtor.

Get a job - pay your bills - quit buying crap that you can't afford!

Dear Fellow Harassed Friends,

Here is some of the BS that appears on the Bridgeport Financial website. I?m sending them a letter that includes all of this information. I will be telling them to cease and desist, and that I consider their (Mr. Tinsley?s) phone calls to be a form of harassment. As a writer I work at home. Their phone calls interrupt me, disrupt my train of thought and therefore affect my writing (which endangers my income).

I agree with the individual whose write-up addresses Bridgeport?s blatant abuse of fair business practice, and of human rights. I am going to send a letter to the Better Business Bureau and the Attorney General's Office as well.

I am committed to ending this type of harassment once and for all. A class action law suit is one way to send a clear message to devious collection agencies. I would also like to establish a new law that requires collection agencies to reveal who they are via the Caller ID ?screen? on telephones. If you would like to see this proposed law on a ballot in the future please let me know.

These collection agencies have a few lessons to learn; like professional business practices, human kindness, human decency, manners, etc. Along with their clients they need to wake up to the fact that due to our economy and jobless rates people simply cannot pay certain bills, with any regularity, at this time. I say to them:

?Wake up! Stop being robots, who know full well that they way they conduct ?business? is deceitful, mean-spirited, cruel and illegal. It it?s possible, if you have the intelligence and humanity required, to rise above this flagrantly anti-human behavior. Prove your worth.?

As stated above, I intended to mail the entire contents of this document to Bridgeport Financial, The Better Business Bureau in Oakland California. Feel free to print all of this and send it the same agencies. Let?s flood Bridgeport Financial with mail! - Robert

The following is from the Internet (this site)

*****IMPORTANT PLEASE READ ENTIRE MESSAGE****
Bridgeport Financial has an employee, William Tinsley, who is very aggressive and uses illegal practices. I got a call from him at my job. When I answered he asked for Tina, my nickname, and then asked for David, first name only, which is my son's name. I assumed it was a friend that has lost contact with my son since he asked for Tina initially. I told him that I would give the message to David and asked for his name and number, he gave it, William Tinsley. I then asked if David would know him by name and that is when he said "He owes money here at Westridge Apartments". I was upset at the fact that he would call my job about my son's debt, but I couldn't talk to him because I was in the presence of my co-workers. I called the number he left and got a woman's voicemail. I left a message telling him not to ever call my job again and that David is a grown man and I am not responsible for his debts. He called me again a couple of days later and again I told him personally that I was not responsible for David's bills and if he called again that I would use legal channels to sue him. He says that he works with attorney?s everyday and that he would sue me. He called again and this time he asked to speak with my supervisor, I told him again that he was harassing me and hung up on him. I reported him to the Better Business Bureau and the Attorney General's Office. I also called the second number I got from complaints about him on the web and left a message for Mr. Tinsley's supervisor that he is not to call me again. When the Attorney General's Office contacted Bridgeport Financial, Mr. Tinsley lied profusely. He said that when I requested him not to call again he stopped, that I originally told him I would give his message to my husband,(I don't have a husband), he never asked to speak to my supervisor and that I cursed him so he had to terminate our call. I URGE EVERYONE CONTACTED BY BRIDGEPORT FINANCIAL TO WRITE TO THE ATTORNEY GENERAL'S OFFICE VIA E-MAIL OR LETTER TO COMPLAIN. (800) 952-5225. THE LETTER I GOT BACK FROM THE ATTORNEY GENERAL'S OFFICE STATES THAT THEY WILL RETAIN MY COMPLAINT IN THEIR FILES AND MAY CONTACT ME AGAIN SHOULD IT APPEAR THAT FURTHER INVESTIGATION WOULD BE IN THE PUBLIC INTEREST. Mr. Tinsley and Bridgeport Financial should be sued in a "Class Action" suit. If not, I believe they will continue to practice illegal measures to try to collect debts and intimidate relatives to pressure others. Mr. Tinsley knew David wasn't my husband and got my job number from my son's Emergency Contact application information. Tina is not my legal name. It could never be used on any legal documents. Also, if David was my husband, I would be legally responsible for the debt which Mr. Tinsley never stated.

Received a call from Steven Harris who demanded to speak to one of my employees, explained he was not available and he demanded to speak to his supervisor (by name). I explained both individuals worked for me and queried as to what the nature of the call was concerning, (he did ask for the supervisor) to which he refused to discuss it. I explained I would pass a message to the employee, he then demanded to know who my supervisor was. I gave him the name of the government entity for which I work and told him he could look the number up in the phone book as it is published. He then threatened me with legal action and told me to notify our lawyers that they would be hearing from him. Mr. Harris never did disclose the company he worked for nor the nature of the call. I did some internet searching and discovered it was Bridgeport Financial out of San Francisco. I called the contact number from the website and asked to speak with a general or office manager, got put on hold, then asked who it was concerning. Told them the name and they patched me straight into this idiots extension! If your interested their office number is 415-986-7879. Flood their office with calls! They be so busy answering they won't be able to "harass" others! What they are doing is illegal but if you don't contact the attorney general nothing will ever happen. I got a call from this number early this morning. I've also been getting calls from a Bridgeport Financial group claiming I owe them money but they will not say what for. Actually, when they call they ask for my father saying that he is the one who owes money. I do not live with my father and have no idea of any of his financial dealings as it isn't my problem. They've also sent me letters to home addressed to my father. These people need to get their information straight and call him not me. I have no idea how they even got my information.
