Received a call from an automated message stating that a number of cards have been compromised. They said I would be receiving my new cards (which I already have), and if I haven't received them to call the number on the back of the current credit card. The calls are probably queued up and sometimes don't send in time.

So I got a call from this number and it left no message on my phone. I tried calling it back but there were some beeps and then it disconnected. I was worried, so after looking it up and seeing it may possibly be Bank of America, I checked my email and I got an "Irregular Card Activity" email from Bank of Amercia that said to call them immediately or they would put some limits on my card usage for my protection. So I called them and asked what it was all about.
I changed my mailing address online yesterday and made a purchase last night. This morning is when I got the call and email. They just confirmed my purchase was actually made by me and made sure everything was ok. They were just doing their job for my security to prevent any possible fraud. So, whew, not worried anymore!
I guess why you cannot call the number back is because it is automated, so it is not designed to answer calls, only to give you a message or call to alert you to contact Bank of America. So no, it isn't a scam.

This is a follow-up to my original post. The next day after the first post, I got another robo-call from this number. This time it identified my son as the person whose card was compromised. He went up to the bank and found out that the call was for real. He's getting a new card..

The first call Identified no one and though professional sounding, seemed like some sort of phishing expedition. After a personal visit to the bank, the situation clarified.

Stay paranoid, my friends.

I rec'd a call from this number this morning.  I did not call the number they left but I called the number on the back of my card.  Bank of America definately did not call.  I'm not sure who IL is but possibly he's part of this scam since he keeps suggesting that you act on the call.

I received a call from this number, answered with no response on the other side. I called it back and got the beeps as well. I found this site and saw it pertained to BofA. I did as Lili did and called the number on my old debit card. They told me there was a probable security breach at a vendor or merchant I used, and someone could have my original card info. Therefore, BofA replaced it. I would, however, recommend calling a guaranteed BofA number to verify with them as well.

Thank you

It is Bank of America.  The voicemail I received said my account had been compromised and to call the number on the back of my card.  They did not leave a number to call. I did and was told yes, it was true.  My account had been compromised and they had already mailed a new card to me.

I got a call from this number this morning. Like most of these it claimed some information had been compromised and they would deactivate my card and send me another. Checked with BofA - no such. I suspect the posts saying this really is BofA are phony because there are so few of them and so many saying the opposite. If I do get a new card, I'll report after I've vetted it.

You're the fool if you actually think this call is legitimate.  The number they leave in the voicemail is not a B of A number!

Bank of America sent me a new card 3 days before I even got a call from this number. They notified me to shed my old card and to start using my new one. Looks like websites like this one are coming in handy and they probably found the frauds.

I just got a message on my cell from this phone #. It started immediately saying there was potential compromise on my debit card and that BofA was simply notifying me that a new debit card is in the mail. Once I receive it, I should read the instructions for activiating the new card and destroy the old one. There is no phone number left for me to call anyone back. It ends simply with Thank you for being a BofA customer.

So I called the BofA customer service number on my debit card 1-800-432-1000 and they verified it was them, they are showing a potential threat and have re-issued me a new card I should see in a few days. I suggest anyone getting this call to simply call back the REAL Bank of America phone number associated with your account and see if it is a real notification or not. I'm glad I did as I know there is something going on and should be extra careful using my existing card until my new one shows up as well that I will be looking for the new card and not leaving it for someone to steal out of my mailbox....

It IS Bank of America, despite the claims of phishing.  They said there was the possibility that my security has been potentially compromised and that they are sending me a new debit card in the mail.  If I do not receive it, then I should call the number on the back of my debit card.  No requested number to call back.  I am pretty certain this is legit.

It is still safest to never give or confirm info to someone who calls you on the phone or at a call back number you were given in an incoming call, it could be someone spoofing the correct number.
Always call the number on your card.

Hey people

I never comment on these posts, as I never have any extra information that might help answer the question. That being said, I just got off the phone with BofA, and they confirmed what the voicemail said from this number; I was told on the VM that my account was compromised because someone might have access to my card information. The BofA rep confirmed this info when I called the customer service number. Apparently, what often happens is maybe a small ATM at a convenience store was stollen, or maybe a shopping site was compromised when their system was hacked. Either
way, I should be getting a new card in the mail.

Before I called BofA, I was completely convinced this was a scam. Not only did BofA confirm that the information on the voicemail was actually legit, but the number I received the message from is legit too. You can think all you want that I'm being hired by scammers to post this but I promise I am not. If you're unsure, call the BofA customer service number, talk to a representative, and see if the information is correct. Just don't immediate write it off; if I hadnt called, I would never have known to keep my eyes peeled for fraud. Hope this information helps!!

I made changes to my BOA account online yesterday (address), got this call today. People need to calm down. Only worry if you DIDN"T make any changes. If you got this call and didn't change anything, call the number on the back of your card.

Agreed.

This is not a scam.
If you do get a call just call you bank direct and confirm your account is ok.
Better safe than sorry.

I got a call today letting me know my account info was updated and to call only if this was not the case.
Just changed my address yesterday.
Therefore, if you got a message like mine and you didn't change a thing, I would touch base with the bank.
I am super paranoid about people stealing my identity so as others mentioned, call the number on your card or a statement.

Got a call today, missed it though and went looking around.  I DO believe this is BOA, as I DID change my mailing address yesterday.  So they are probably following up.  I think it is safe to say they are legit.

All the paranoid people on here just relax. I got the same blank call. Listen to the voicemail and at about 1 minute in you will get an automated msg stating that the changes you made to your account were completed and also offering an 800 # to call if you didn't authorize changes. I changed my mailing address so that's why they called me.

People, This is not a scam!!!!
i am going out of the country for vacation and called bofa directly (using the number on the back of my card) to put a travel alert on my account so i can use my ATM card.

the voicemail was an automated message saying "thank you for calling bofa and setting up your upcoming travel alert"  then it went on about what numbers i can call if i am out of the country and run into issues (ie card wont work, etc). the numbers were the same as the bofa agent gave me on the phone.

so again, this is not a scam! this is a legit number.

I also received a voice mail from this number.  They asked me to call 877-833-5617 or collect at 602-509-3722.  Not wanting to be subject to a rerouted international call (@ $200/minute).  I reached a nice lady who id'd herself as BofA fraud.  I do have a BofA account.  She asked for my name and account number.  I told her that I would not give it to her unless she told me why she wanted it.  She said it was to verify activity on my account.  The message did not mention BofA at all which I thought was strange.  I voiced my concerns and she told me to hang up and call the number on the back of my card.  I almost gave her my info since that sounded pretty sensible.  However, I decided better safe than sorry.  I called BofA back using the usual customer service number and...no issue with my account.  Very good scam, but a scam nonetheless.

I just got off the phone with BoA after receiving the same phone call. I called the regular customer service number NOT the 800 number left by the voicemail. I was told that some BoA customers accounts had been compromised and that mine was "potentially" one of them and that the number I just got the call from was NOT associated with BoA and I was wise not to call it back.  I was informed I would be getting a new debit card and that I should update all my passwords to my online banking.   Also to monitor my account for suspicous activity for the next week and to contact them if anything came up.

This number is a scam and if you want to contact BoA, especially if you have an account with them, use the customer service number on the back of your debit card or any number on the website!
