Us telecommunication Dept. should block these kind of scam phone numbers. This is horrible fraud claiming.

WASHINGTON ? The Internal Revenue Service today warned consumers about a sophisticated phone scam targeting taxpayers, including recent immigrants, throughout the country.
Victims are told they owe money to the IRS and it must be paid promptly through a pre-loaded debit card or wire transfer. If the victim refuses to cooperate, they are then threatened with arrest, deportation or suspension of a business or driver?s license. In many cases, the caller becomes hostile and insulting.
?This scam has hit taxpayers in nearly every state in the country. We want to educate taxpayers so they can help protect themselves. Rest assured, we do not and will not ask for credit card numbers over the phone, nor request a pre-paid debit card or wire transfer,? says IRS Acting Commissioner Danny Werfel. ?If someone unexpectedly calls claiming to be from the IRS and threatens police arrest, deportation or license revocation if you don?t pay immediately, that is a sign that it really isn?t the IRS calling.? Werfel noted that the first IRS contact with taxpayers on a tax issue is likely to occur via mail
Other characteristics of this scam include:
Scammers use fake names and IRS badge numbers. They generally use common names and surnames to identify themselves.
Scammers may be able to recite the last four digits of a victim?s Social Security Number.
Scammers spoof the IRS toll-free number on caller ID to make it appear that it?s the IRS calling.
Scammers sometimes send bogus IRS emails to some victims to support their bogus calls.
Victims hear background noise of other calls being conducted to mimic a call site.
After threatening victims with jail time or driver?s license revocation, scammers hang up and others soon call back pretending to be from the local police or DMV, and the caller ID supports their claim.
If you get a phone call from someone claiming to be from the IRS, here?s what you should do:
If you know you owe taxes or you think you might owe taxes, call the IRS at 1.800.829.1040. The IRS employees at that line can help you with a payment issue ? if there really is such an issue.
If you know you don?t owe taxes or have no reason to think that you owe any taxes (for example, you?ve never received a bill or the caller made some bogus threats as described above), then call and report the incident to the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration at 1.800.366.4484.
If you?ve been targeted by this scam, you should also contact the Federal Trade Commission and use their ?FTC Complaint Assistant? at FTC.gov. Please add "IRS Telephone Scam" to the comments of your complaint.
Taxpayers should be aware that there are other unrelated scams (such as a lottery sweepstakes) and solicitations (such as debt relief) that fraudulently claim to be from the IRS.
The IRS encourages taxpayers to be vigilant against phone and email scams that use the IRS as a lure. The IRS does not initiate contact with taxpayers by email to request personal or financial information. This includes any type of electronic communication, such as text messages and social media channels. The IRS also does not ask for PINs, passwords or similar confidential access information for credit card, bank or other financial accounts. Recipients should not open any attachments or click on any links contained in the message. Instead, forward the e-mail to phishing@irs.gov.
More information on how to report phishing scams involving the IRS is available on the genuine IRS website, IRS.gov.

I just got this call. I first picked up and the guy other side asked for house owner by correct name. When I questioned what is the reason then he said IRS and started intimidating. Soon i realized and hung up. The ring came again right after few seconds from same phone no. I didn't pick so it went to voice mail and the other side left detailed message stating; it is IRS and we have found fault in your tax return. Do not ignore this call ! Take it seriously and ask your attorney and contact immediately back.
Can't some action be taken to block such harassing calls ? It is unbelievable that we live in high tech society but authorities can't stop such nuisance quickly !

A scam, pretending to be IRS.
The caller is very likely Pakistani, as you can hear Farsi and Balochi dialect in the background (the accent in South Asia is similar). Probably, Taliban or some madrasas trying to raise money from Americans, for their Islamic causes, by scaring them about IRS.
Hang up. If you have call block, use it.

We received a message on 1/4/14 from a man w/ a heavy accent. Could not make out the first name, but heard our last name. Message was very unclear except for the IRS & the phone #. When I called back a lady asked for my phone # that was called. Once I gave it to her she said something w/ a heavy accent then hung up on me. When I called back several times someone would pick up then hang up.

If for anything, I can be the perfect scammer. These Indian accent people are telling me call Michael Carter and reference the file number because the sheriff is coming to arrest me tomorrow. This is the worst scam I've ever heard of. The government needs to raid this office. A person like myself with high blood pressure, could have had a heart attack after this phone call. Then my husband would have sued the pants off of them. They should burn in the pits of hell.

Yup got this call right on today and glad I did not speak with him. He spoke to my husband and said the arrest warrants are out for me and Sheriff will come and arrest me for not paying the taxes. He was willing to settle but at the last min he retracted and said you better settle in court and have a lawyer present. He gave his badge No. and name as Trivel and yes said he was calling from IRS and read the whole script. He also said there was going to be a criminal indictment. I have submitted a formal complaint with the FTC and also called the IRS who were very helpful.

Got a call this morning, wanted the contact details of my attorney and auditor. Said I owed taxes, gave me a reference number and asked me to call back. When I called them back a lady picked up the phone and read out some script that said I will be arrested and so on. Anyways told her I was recording the call and it was fun to talk to her. Seems the accent was not Indian but South East / East Asian accent.
I googled for the number, glad I was not the 1st one but will have a formal compliant with the FTC, IRS or some fedral authority. I hope the folks who are running this fraud tax call network get a taste of thier own medicine someday.

Indian accent. Claimed as IRS employee, gave a case number, contact person and this phone number, and also gave his IRS ID and his name when asked. When asked why IRS didn't send a letter, he said the letter was sent but didn't get response, and asked me to call immediately.
| Andi 2014-01-03 19:43:14 Unknown |
Was very rude. Indian accent. When I questioned him he hung up. I tried calling back 6 times he would pick up and then hang up. He finally took his phone hook. Initially stating from the IRS and gave a case number.

I received a call from this number yesterday. He said there was a problem with my taxes and either I or my attorney should contact them immediately. He said his name was Kevin Richardson but he sounded like he was from India. He said he was with the Tax Litigation Department and gave me a file number. This message was left as a voicemail and I did not call it back. I had a problem with my taxes once and the IRS sent me a letter. I wrote them back explaining how I had handled the income and everything was resolved. The IRS sent me a thank you letter and everything was fine. They never called me.
