Funny, I called "Sammy" back and played along cause last year I had to pay to State and Fed for a previous yr., he said have my accountant call back.....oh my I said, Im in trouble...CLICK....so I called back, TEN TIMES!!! Got "Derek".... told him I owed and what could I do? He said rererence number please...I said you should know it cause you've been calling me for weeks and your NOT the IRS but I called my Attorney who said they were gonna sue you A**les if you didn't quit calling me...CLICK. So I called again, and again, and they kept hanging up. Finally got "Sammy", and I screamed at him, I got ALL day to call you, just like you got ALL day to make bogus calls to people you POS, he laughed hahaha....and then CLICK again.....I think I made my point and had some fun. Its bogus and Im gonna comment everywhere I can!

I rec'd the same call this morning after beginning my tax return on Turbo Tax last night, and they called first thing this morning.  Same person "Justin Johnson" but the number was 415-251-3769.  I reported it to the FTC and IRS, but am very concerned about continuing my electronic submittal.  Very threatening call.

I received this same call, I was told that I needed to contact a Mr. Kenneth. Webster at 415-251-3754 to get this settled. I started to think about it and said why would the IRS be calling me from this type of number, so I looked the number up on Google and found it was really a scam, what's this world coming to.

Received call yesterday. The message taken down referred to a reference number, that phone number and a "Nancy Smith". "Eric" with a fake employee # and an Indian accent answered wanting my attorney's number to forward legal documents. I spoke to a tax attorney who said he has been receiving worried calls about this 10-15 times a week.

Thanks for information above.  I feel better knowing this is not the IRS.  I hope they catch these people.

Yes, but..  All good information, however, I know from experience that a reasonably intelligent person can spend an hour trying to figure out how to report a scam call from this number without much success.  The FTC and IRS websites do not have a simple way to report scam phone calls.  It appears that you can easily report emails, but not phone calls.

Received a call from 415-251-2122, an indian man, computerized voice, claiming to be from the IRS threatening legal action. However, called back no one picks up. Searched the net, and found it to be a scammer. Don't be intimidated by them. They are scamming using the name of IRS.

Yes, I got several calls from this number. But they did not leave a message. However, I call and a man with a heavy accent called and told me that he was going to read some information to me and to hold all questions until the end. He state that I needed to contact an attorney because a case has been file against me. I was lost for words, because I have always tried to do my taxes in an honest manner. If I have questions before filing I would get an answer before filing. I was so distrost thing about someone coming to arrest me for something I had know ideal I had done. When I ask him questions about who file this against me. His question was do you know where you are calling and stating no, and he told someone would be here tomorrow to arrest me. But what I could not understand why is it that the IRS did not contact me letting me know about this situation. He hung up the phone and when I tried to call back they pick up the phone and hung it up.

i receivd a call from these guys today. They left a message on my phone if you want to hear it.
I called them back & they answered IRS, then asked for my phone number (not my social) and proceeded to tell me that my tax return credit was not applied correctly and askd if I had an attorney.  I asked why this was the first I had heard about this and they said they had sent out 2 certified letters that the carrier leeft a note on my door aobout but I did not go to the post office to pick them up.

I asked why I had not received a letter when this was first discovered and he said he had already read the letter to me and if I did not understand a marshal would be at my house tomorrow to arrest me and hung up.  In the lketter he read off to me were all sorts of terrible things that were going to happen to me including 10 years in jail.

If you did not understand the IRS you would be taken in by this fairly easily.

I tried to call the Treasury line, but they only had an option for phishing emails

p.s. They use Magic Jack and keep  changing their phone number so blocking will not really help. Though I would be very interested to find out how they got our phone number and other details. By the looks of it, there are tens of people working on this scam (you can hear several folks in the background) so it is definitely semi-organized crime.

Just called them and someone called Jenny picked up and told her to get a life and not perpetrate this scam. She said thank you and promptly hung up. Tried to call several times again and they are not picking up the phone. I think they can see our number so if you want them to pick up, call from a different number.

I received a call today, let her complete her entire message, which she spoke for more than 10 minutes. Then I told her about the a mail I received from the IRS about a scam going on, based on an earlier post from this site. I asked her to provide more details about herself and she hung up very quickly.

Thanks to technology, these scammers arent going to get anywhere if one performs due dilligence. Called them twice more asking for more information so I can inform the IRS and FBI about them, they are not picking up the phone anymore.

***********************************************************************************************************
Because the caller ID said Novato,CA I filed a harassment complaint with Novato, PD, not in their jurisdiction,
here is their reply:

Thank you for reporting this incident.  This scam you describe is a new, sophisticated scam involving phone exchanges, where the Novato exchange redirects to a likely phone number overseas.  Here is an article from the IRS regarding these scams:

----------------
IR-2013-84, Oct. 31, 2013
WASHINGTON ? The Internal Revenue Service today warned consumers about a sophisticated phone scam targeting taxpayers, including recent immigrants, throughout the country.

Victims are told they owe money to the IRS and it must be paid promptly through a pre-loaded debit card or wire transfer. If the victim refuses to cooperate, they are then threatened with arrest, deportation or suspension of a business or driver?s license. In many cases, the caller becomes hostile and insulting.

?This scam has hit taxpayers in nearly every state in the country.  We want to educate taxpayers so they can help protect themselves.  Rest assured, we do not and will not ask for credit card numbers over the phone, nor request a pre-paid debit card or wire transfer,? says IRS Acting Commissioner Danny Werfel. ?If someone unexpectedly calls claiming to be from the IRS and threatens police arrest, deportation or license revocation if you don?t pay immediately, that is a sign that it really isn?t the IRS calling.? Werfel noted that the first IRS contact with taxpayers on a tax issue is likely to occur via mail.

Other characteristics of this scam include:
Scammers use fake names and IRS badge numbers. They generally use common names and surnames to identify themselves.
Scammers may be able to recite the last four digits of a victim?s Social Security Number.
Scammers spoof the IRS toll-free number on caller ID to make it appear that it?s the IRS calling.
Scammers sometimes send bogus IRS emails to some victims to support their bogus calls.

Victims hear background noise of other calls being conducted to mimic a call site.
After threatening victims with jail time or driver?s license revocation, scammers hang up and others soon call back pretending to be from the local police or DMV, and the caller ID supports their claim.
If you get a phone call from someone claiming to be from the IRS, here?s what you should do:
If you know you owe taxes or you think you might owe taxes, call the IRS at 1.800.829.1040. The IRS employees at that line can help you with a payment issue ? if there really is such an issue.
If you know you don?t owe taxes or have no reason to think that you owe any taxes (for example, you?ve never received a bill or the caller made some bogus threats as described above), then call and report the incident to the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration at 1.800.366.4484.
If you?ve been targeted by this scam, you should also contact the Federal Trade Commission and use their ?FTC Complaint Assistant? at FTC.gov.  Please add "IRS Telephone Scam" to the comments of your complaint.
Taxpayers should be aware that there are other unrelated scams (such as a lottery sweepstakes) and solicitations (such as debt relief) that fraudulently claim to be from the IRS.
The IRS encourages taxpayers to be vigilant against phone and email scams that use the IRS as a lure. The IRS does not initiate contact with taxpayers by email to request personal or financial information.  This includes any type of electronic communication, such as text messages and social media channels. The IRS also does not ask for PINs, passwords or similar confidential access information for credit card, bank or other financial accounts. Recipients should not open any attachments or click on any links contained in the message. Instead, forward the e-mail to phishing@irs.gov.

More information on how to report phishing scams involving the IRS is available on the genuine IRS website, IRS.gov.

Same message from same "Justin Johnson".  Got a call with the same scam from another number earlier in the week.

Told him due to that, the call was being traced and he actually had the gall to begin to argue that he was legit.  Decided to cut him off and give him his own line - that he would be arrested in 45 minutes.  "Justin" then hung up.  He actually called back one minute later to try again.

These morons aren't the sharpest knives in the drawer.  Even after I described the steps in his scam to him, he just tried to plow ahead.
