Prank Call
Someone claiming to be David Jackson from IRS left two threatening voice messages. The caller ID showed the number to be 4152517090. He wanted me to call back immediately to avoid litigation. He spoke with very heavy accent and was hardly understandable. My instinct told me this is scam and I did not bother to call him back. A google search led me to this site and it confirms that this is indeed scam. I just want to add my note here to warn other people.

Got a call yesterday and two already today before noon.  All three times, a person with a heavy accent left messages and claims he is from the IRS.  He says to call him back because it is a "time sensitive issue" and they determined that there is a "deficiency" with my taxes and to "not try to disregard the call" or otherwise, face legal consequences. In yesterday's message, he says I need to call him back at this number 415-251-7090 and speak with his supervisor.  Then he says "take care and have a good day" or some bologna to that effect. How do these people get away with doing this crap?!  This is borderline harassment.   (Much thanks to this website by the way.  It's very informative and confirmed my suspicion that the person calling and leaving messages is an IDIOT!)

Have gotten 3 calls this evening from 415-251-7090. I don't answer a call if I don't know who is calling, but some guy left me a message I could barely understand because of his thick  foreign accent. The first message I understood, my name, IRS ,and that's about all. The second message threatened me with " legal procedures" if I didn't pay up. Screw these guys.

Really!  Why call someone to tell them they are going to be served with a summons or that they are going to be arrested?  My response would be "Well, thanks for the 'heads-up,' goodbye."

They just want to scare you - get you off balance - hoping that you'll fall for whatever scam that they are setting you up for.

Remember, it's your phone, and you're not obligated to even answer your phone - much less follow instructions from some stranger on your phone!  Screw 'em!

My wife received a call from these jokers  at dinnertime . The caller introduced himself as " IRS Officer James Anderson"  heavy  p***-indi accent. If this guy is a James Anderson I am Mahatma Brownricepatti.  She told him that I was in a meeting and would call back... Just for the hell of it I called back.. All kinds of interference and then weird music. No voice mail.. I'd like to get one of these guys alone in a room for 10 minutes.

The scam doesn't even make sense.  Why call someone and tell them they are going to be arrested... They didn't ask me for money, nothing.  So strange.

If you got to this website, you know this is a scam.  The question is, what is being done about stopping it?  Does anyone know of any progress in getting to the bottom of this?  I feel sorry for the poor people who got scared into giving money, or spoke to these filthy b*****ds, wasting a single second with these low-lifes.

I just received the voice message from a idiot stating he was from the IRS. He stated that I was in trouble and it was a criminal situation. I was going to be put in jail if I didn't call them back right away and take care of this.  He said a bunch of numbers to refer to...sounded like he was just running off a bunch of random numbers because the next set up numbers were different. He repeated that it was an urgent matter and if I didn't get right back to him as soon as I got the message they would send agents to arrest me....I am only sorry I didn't get this jack a** on the phone personally. I did call the FTC and got a case number.  He did not refer to be by my first and last name probably because he couldn't remember the last name...he sounded like he had a very heavy Spanish accent and he said his name was James Jackson.  I will be calling the Attorney General's number too which for California is 800-952-5225.  It is Good Friday so they are not answer now.

A FOREIN MAN "INDIA OR MALAYSIAN" SAID HE WAS FROM THE IRS. HE SAID MY NAME, IF HE WAS REALLY FROM THE IRS WHY WOULD'NT HE ASK FOR MY HUSBAND?  THE CALLER WAS VERY HARD TO UNDERSTAND & A LOT OF BACKGROUND NOISE.  HIS VOICE WOULD BE NORMALY LOUD THEN GET REAL LOW BACK & FORTH I JUST CAUGHT A FEW WORDS BUT I HEARD "IRS".  AT FIRST THE CALL WENT ON MY RECORDER THEN I PICKED UP & WAS TRYING TO LISTEN, I JUST HUNG UP ON HIM.  I HAVE THE FIRST PART OF THIS CALL ON MY RECORDER STILL.  I KNOW THE IRS WILL NOT CALL YOU, THEY WILL CONTACT THE PERSON INVOLVED BY MAIL NOT PHONE.

WASHINGTON ? The Internal Revenue Service today warned consumers about a sophisticated phone scam targeting taxpayers, including recent immigrants, throughout the country.

Victims are told they owe money to the IRS and it must be paid promptly through a pre-loaded debit card or wire transfer. If the victim refuses to cooperate, they are then threatened with arrest, deportation or suspension of a business or driver?s license. In many cases, the caller becomes hostile and insulting.

?This scam has hit taxpayers in nearly every state in the country.  We want to educate taxpayers so they can help protect themselves.  Rest assured, we do not and will not ask for credit card numbers over the phone, nor request a pre-paid debit card or wire transfer,? says IRS Acting Commissioner Danny Werfel. ?If someone unexpectedly calls claiming to be from the IRS and threatens police arrest, deportation or license revocation if you don?t pay immediately, that is a sign that it really isn?t the IRS calling.? Werfel noted that the first IRS contact with taxpayers on a tax issue is likely to occur via mail
Other characteristics of this scam include:
Scammers use fake names and IRS badge numbers. They generally use common names and surnames to identify themselves.
Scammers may be able to recite the last four digits of a victim?s Social Security Number.
Scammers spoof the IRS toll-free number on caller ID to make it appear that it?s the IRS calling.
Scammers sometimes send bogus IRS emails to some victims to support their bogus calls.
Victims hear background noise of other calls being conducted to mimic a call site.
After threatening victims with jail time or driver?s license revocation, scammers hang up and others soon call back pretending to be from the local police or DMV, and the caller ID supports their claim.
If you get a phone call from someone claiming to be from the IRS, here?s what you should do:
If you know you owe taxes or you think you might owe taxes, call the IRS at 1.800.829.1040. The IRS employees at that line can help you with a payment issue ? if there really is such an issue.
If you know you don?t owe taxes or have no reason to think that you owe any taxes (for example, you?ve never received a bill or the caller made some bogus threats as described above), then call and report the incident to the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration at 1.800.366.4484.
If you?ve been targeted by this scam, you should also contact the Federal Trade Commission and use their ?FTC Complaint Assistant? at FTC.gov.  Please add "IRS Telephone Scam" to the comments of your complaint.
Taxpayers should be aware that there are other unrelated scams (such as a lottery sweepstakes) and solicitations (such as debt relief) that fraudulently claim to be from the IRS.
The IRS encourages taxpayers to be vigilant against phone and email scams that use the IRS as a lure. The IRS does not initiate contact with taxpayers by email to request personal or financial information.  This includes any type of electronic communication, such as text messages and social media channels. The IRS also does not ask for PINs, passwords or similar confidential access information for credit card, bank or other financial accounts. Recipients should not open any attachments or click on any links contained in the message. Instead, forward the e-mail to phishing@irs.gov.

More information on how to report phishing scams involving the IRS is available on the genuine IRS website, IRS.gov.

Yup, same dude who called ME!!!! What a joke! I worked for the NYS Tax and Finance and I know all too well that this is a scam right from the start as IRS employees, the real ones that is, have to identify themselves with an IRS employee ID number. This jerk on the phone was soooo hard to understand and they didnt even have the right name when they called my home phone. Good God!! John Davis was the name he gave, well, if thats the case with your thick accent, then my name is Wallhalla Abadoobee!! F****ards piss me off!. I even called back to tell them off, but, the voicemail box is full and I should call back later it said. Yup, oh yeah, that really sounds like the IRS to me...NOT!!! A***oles!

I have received 6 phone calls from this number.  4 messages on the answering machine and 2 where I have talked to them.  They will not quit calling.  I told them that I know they are not the IRS and I told them to quite calling.  There must be a way someone can stop them from calling.

They just called my house and left a message on my voicemail. I called them back and he said he was from the IRS. I knew for sure that couldn't be right because the IRS wouldn't call. After he hung up on me I called back and noticed my call couldn't go through. So now I'm reporting it.

OK.  Call your local FBI office and start there.  THEN call the FTC at 1-877-382-4357 and register your complaint there.  The FBI gave me that number.  Called the FTC, did the complaint and they sent me to the Oregon State Consumer Hotline - in Oregon 577-577-9392,  Found out there that it has been hitting OREGON so hard with this scam that yesterday they released a new item about the scam in both the Oregonian and on local television stations.  DO NOT GIVE THEM ANY INFORMATION IF THEY CALL YOU.  Just follow the procedure from the FTC to your local Attorney General's Consumer Complaint Division.  Remember also that you can call the Treasury at 800-366-4484 and file a complaint there as well.  That number was given to me from the Attorney General of Oregon Frauds Hotline representative.

I also just got a call from this person claiming - in a very heavy accent - to be from the IRS.  I am going to hit enter on this and then call the local office of the FBI to see if there is anything that can be done.  If that does not work, I will turn the phone number over to the IRS investigations team.  Not sure what the scam is and have no desire to find out.
