I received a call from this number... A human voice, named Mike Bailey, yet with a very distinct accent... Regarding some sort of IRS issue... I called the number back and got a "magic jack" message stating that the number hadn't been registered yet...
Scam for sure!

I received a call today. An Indian guy with heavy accent that hardly to understand what he really was saying. He identified himself as from Tax Investigationn Unit that I had a discrepency of $127,723 in my income tax return. He is an idiot. I wish I have really reported that discrepancy that I should have earned at least a million a year.

Yup, got the same message about it being a time sensitive issue, I was being charged with tax fraud, etc. They called a bunch of times and when I finally did answer they scared the crap out of me, saying I was going to be arrested that day, how I owed thousands of dollars, etc. I told them I needed to talk to my husband and hung up, didn't give them any information. Figured out that it was a scam. I actually called them back and yelled at them, they hung up, I called again and they continued to anser like they are really the IRS. I hope karma comes to get them!

I received a message from this number saying it was from the tax litigation department and that I must respond immediately. The caller had such a heavy accent that I had to listen to the message 3 or 4 times just to understand part of it. The caller claimed his name was David White and provided a reference #.
| Emmie 2014-05-05 19:37:28 Unknown |
Caller sounded robotic, male with Indian accent. Talks too fast to be understood. Had to listen several times to even get the phone number. Identified himself as " Fared Bako" ( ???? inaudible). Claiming he is from Tax Litigation Dept., unit no. 990-587., saying I shouldn't disregard the message, that I needed to call back being it"s "extremely time sensitive" due "deficiency in tax returns".
I knew it wasn't legitimate., IRS typically communicates by mail... in writing.
Ignored the message. Will share with everybody their strategy.

MAGICJACK !!!
See: http://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-347-832-4519/2#p710251082229542377
for what this means and what you can do about it.
In particular:
In addition to the regular reporting channels, e.g., the Department of the Treasury, the FTC, and your local state attorney general's office, you might also report the abuse to YMAX Corp. I have seen reports that they are pretty good at responding to complaints and may be able to permanently shut off a magicJack device, if necessary, so that it can never be used again.
The YMAX Corp. main web page is at:
http://www.ymaxcorp.com
and their site giving information on how to lodge a complaint is at:
http://www.ymaxcorp.com/contact.html
Note that the "contact" website gives a clickable link to a "live chat" where you can make your complaint.

This Indian man call 2 times , one hour a parts, leave the message and I could not understand a word he said to me. Except the phone number and case number he give me and ask me to call him or he will take legal action. I didn't call back and wait for him to make my day.

Yeah, I got a call form them to my cell phone. "Officer Heather' again, same as the others. I called back but the mailbox was full. Shame on me for not recognizing the scam first, except for me I know I owe taxes, so the IRS calling was not that big of a surprise. Now I know - question everything.

WASHINGTON ? The Internal Revenue Service today warned consumers about a sophisticated phone scam targeting taxpayers, including recent immigrants, throughout the country.
Victims are told they owe money to the IRS and it must be paid promptly through a pre-loaded debit card or wire transfer. If the victim refuses to cooperate, they are then threatened with arrest, deportation or suspension of a business or driver?s license. In many cases, the caller becomes hostile and insulting.
?This scam has hit taxpayers in nearly every state in the country. We want to educate taxpayers so they can help protect themselves. Rest assured, we do not and will not ask for credit card numbers over the phone, nor request a pre-paid debit card or wire transfer,? says IRS Acting Commissioner Danny Werfel. ?If someone unexpectedly calls claiming to be from the IRS and threatens police arrest, deportation or license revocation if you don?t pay immediately, that is a sign that it really isn?t the IRS calling.? Werfel noted that the first IRS contact with taxpayers on a tax issue is likely to occur via mail
Other characteristics of this scam include:
Scammers use fake names and IRS badge numbers. They generally use common names and surnames to identify themselves.
Scammers may be able to recite the last four digits of a victim?s Social Security Number.
Scammers spoof the IRS toll-free number on caller ID to make it appear that it?s the IRS calling.
Scammers sometimes send bogus IRS emails to some victims to support their bogus calls.
Victims hear background noise of other calls being conducted to mimic a call site.
After threatening victims with jail time or driver?s license revocation, scammers hang up and others soon call back pretending to be from the local police or DMV, and the caller ID supports their claim.
If you get a phone call from someone claiming to be from the IRS, here?s what you should do:
If you know you owe taxes or you think you might owe taxes, call the IRS at 1.800.829.1040. The IRS employees at that line can help you with a payment issue ? if there really is such an issue.
If you know you don?t owe taxes or have no reason to think that you owe any taxes (for example, you?ve never received a bill or the caller made some bogus threats as described above), then call and report the incident to the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration at 1.800.366.4484.
If you?ve been targeted by this scam, you should also contact the Federal Trade Commission and use their ?FTC Complaint Assistant? at FTC.gov. Please add "IRS Telephone Scam" to the comments of your complaint.
Taxpayers should be aware that there are other unrelated scams (such as a lottery sweepstakes) and solicitations (such as debt relief) that fraudulently claim to be from the IRS.
The IRS encourages taxpayers to be vigilant against phone and email scams that use the IRS as a lure. The IRS does not initiate contact with taxpayers by email to request personal or financial information. This includes any type of electronic communication, such as text messages and social media channels. The IRS also does not ask for PINs, passwords or similar confidential access information for credit card, bank or other financial accounts. Recipients should not open any attachments or click on any links contained in the message. Instead, forward the e-mail to phishing@irs.gov.
More information on how to report phishing scams involving the IRS is available on the genuine IRS website, IRS.gov.

I received a message from someone at this number. Claimed they were from the IRS and threatened legal action if I did not call immediately. Since I have no issues with IRS, I deleted the message.

In correction, the first time I called the number it went to voice mail and the message said that the box was full so I should try the call later. I hung up and called back two minutes later and the man answered.

This morning I received a call from the above number and the voice on the other sounded like a recorded message. I was told that I owed money to the IRS and that I should call or have my attorney call immediately because there are criminal charges against me which could lead to my arrest. I called the number back and a man answered. He said that there are 2 criminal charges filed against me for fraud and illegal tax filing and was facing 5 years in jail. He said that he would read the affidavit to me and that I should not interrupt him while he read. I listened, heard that I had been under investigation and owe $6,000.00 for incorrectly filing for the past six years and that with the penalties and filing charges it would be about $14,000.00 or more. I was advised to get a criminal attorney. I told him that I do not live at the address he provided so he told me that wherever I am, the local sheriff would arrest me and the attorney will have to arrange bail.
This was scary... At first I thought that maybe my ID had been compromised but my daughter checked on line and found that it is a scam. I hope that they can find these crooks!!!

I also got the call from this 415-251-8453, but there was no people at home to answer it. A lady left message said that she was from IRS, and asked me to call back to "prevent further legal action against you". I have no ideal what this is about. It is definitely a SCAM.
| Tammy 2014-04-27 15:35:13 Unknown |
I got the same call yesterday. Really the IRS doesn't call people they send out letters. Knew it was a scam immediately.

I received the same automated voice message from "Officer Heather" from the IRS stating that the issue is "extremely time sensitive", and we need to talk before they "take any legal allegations against" me. I called the number 415-251-8453, and received a voice message stating that the mail box was full and to call back later. Sounds like a scam.
