Just got a call from this number as well ... and we own an Acura.

Hmmmm ... coincidence?

We got the call from this number. Caller ID shows PBIS . I did not call the number back. No meessage was left. Regarding Julee's comment about Acura.....Funny thing is that our Acura is in the shop right now, but it is in the 805 area code.

I just opened a business and I got this call today. The man stated that he was from the American Assocication of Police Officers.
He went on to state that this is not an official call from the police and there was no problems but he want to tell me about their support packets. He joked that this package did not give me the right to speed but was supported buy local law enforcement and they would see me as one of their own.
I know this game so I listened for a few minutes and asked them to please send me information on their organization, price levels and such because I did not donate to any organization without something in writing.
He stated that he could not send me anything until I committed to a price level. He stated that their Top Business Package was $900 which got me a t-shirt, bumper stick, gold start to put on my car and may one or two other things. I stated that I was not going to donate until I saw what they could send me in writing and then he stated that they were tax deductable so no matter what he sent me, it didn't matter because I could write it off.
Well here is the fun part, I stated well the company you called is a Tax Preparation and Bookkeeping company and I work very closely with the IRS. If you could please hold, I will call them to verify that you are deductable then I could come on the line and then you can send me the information....
He hung up.
I do own a tax preparation and bookkeeping company that is true...but checking with the IRS, well, I was never planning on doing that!

Got the same problem as the others about this number.  The local police said that police do not this kind of thing and that this is a fake group.  DO NOT CONTRIBUTE.

Same with many others, they said they are with some sort of Police association.  If so, why would it be posted as PBIS? What does that stands for?

the call is from the ''American Associattion of Police Officers'' with a ''public awareness campaign'' (ie: fund raising for a bogus organization)  

Any payments to them are NOT tax deductible because they are not a NFP org but share the wealth amongst themselves.

What I do is tell them I'll contribute to my local police dept.

I don't answer numbers I don't recorgize. From this thread, it seems this is a so-called Police Charity. According to my friend the Police Captain, this is NOT sanctioned by any police organizaiton. NO law enforcement organizations solicit funds for any reason. This PBIS probably does give PART of the money they collect, but only the bare minumum. I have received similar calls from organizations such as the Motorcycle Officers Memorial, and things of this nature. Now I KNOW I won't pick up this PBIS call (they call pretty early and pretty late, too!)

Just got a call from this numer....and I also am an Acura owner.  I am getting tired of these soliciting calls from "charitable" organizations!

3 calls from this number in 3 days. ID'd as PBIS. They've never left a message.

... another hangup... getting a few calls a week from this number... and we are Acura owners...

Post a complaint with the National Do Not Call Registry.

..got a call from these folks before I belive (we never answered), but today they accidentally left a message (sort of, I think it was unintended, they forgot to hang up) on the answerphone - someone mumbled "...f*** around..." then just long beep. I thing these people are scammers and lowlifes who just do exactly what the said today - they're f***in' around and trying to hit unsuspecting people for $$$ contributions under the false claim they're asssociated with the police force... what a scum. I'm going to add the 415-262-0266 number in my Verizon call block list, and wonder whether I should maybe compain about the call as well.

We got a call from PBIS this number last evening.  We didn't answer and they left no message.

The American Association of Police Officers aren't the police.  They are a fundraising group where most of the money goes to the fundraiser -- not the charity.

I NEVER give money to any group that solicts by phone.  If I want to give someone money, I will call them...

I received this call and they identified themselves as American Association of Police Officers and asked if they could send me a package with a booster sticker and donation request. I said I was surprised the police would make such a call. He said I am calling from the American Association of Police Officers. I said, please take me off your calling list. I googled their name and came up with them listed as a phoney scam group being investigated in Illinois. Caller ID says PBIS with their phone number. Don't contribute and do ask to be removed from their calling list!

Very Annoyed by 415-262-0266 - 26 Feb 2008:

PBIS 415-262-0266 called yet again today, but this time there was a life person on the other end for a change, addressing me by my first name. They mentioned something about California Police Association, but I don't believe they actually are. Before he could say anything more, I requested that our number be taken off their list - they cannot call me again, ever. I said I was sick and tired of their phone calls and numerous hang ups, and this was my one and only notice they must stop illegitimate solicitations. I will take this further if these phone calls won't stop.

415-262-0266 PBIS keeps on calling - several times a day - most of the times they hang up (if you pick it up), they never ever leave a message if you don't pick up, sometimes you hear that infamous background noise, and the kicker is... we are on the "do not call list" - so they are not suppose to solicit anything. WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE?

Just got a call from this phone number.  Answered it, no one there, late at night.  Don't own an Acura.

OK, they tried again and I picked up soon enough this time that someone answered - he gave some spiel about police safety blah blah blah and then seamlessly flowed into a request to send me their 'support packet' and a confirmation that they can count on me for a tax deductable donation.

Received a call from this number on 2/15 @ ~6pm.  Picked up and there was a lot of background noise and a kind of dial tone / phone noise.  Nobody answered when I spoke so I hung up.  From others on this thread I see it's the police / non-profit / charity people.  I really wish there was a 'charity do not call' list you can subscribe to - I'm not againt charity at all, but I want to be able to select WHO I donate to and I now make it a personal rule that I WILL NOT DONATE to charities who solicit my donations via these types of calls (and if they answer I make it a point to tell them that too).

...got a call from the 415 number...didn't recognize PBIS caller id and didn't answer.  No message was left on the answering machine.  After reading these blogs, I'm glad that I did not answer.

Did not leave a message, but hung up before I could answer.

I just talked to the guy. Assoc of Police Officers. He said they were not telemarketers but are the association. I dont know if I believe him.

Recieved dead calls for 650-361-0200 and 415-262-0266  (once)
Both show as "PBIS"  
Will report to the "National Do Not Call Registry" next, in case it helps.

PBIS have now started calling me using this number instead of the previous one they had used. I have reported them to the Do Not Call people; PBIS just will not take "no" for an answer.

Called during the afternoon.  WHen I picked up the phone, I heard a click and then it started RINGING.  I hung up, afraid of having some toll-call charged to me.  
I am also on the the do not call list; is there any movement or legislation in the works to have this list apply to "non-profit" orgs and charities?
