Same accent, same company, sounding like First Financial.  Left a message saying that they have reviewed my loan application (I haven't prepared any loan applications) and wanted to verify information.  Clearly this is a scam and please beware.  Since people have been defrauded already, It's crazy that they are still using the same number and continuing.  Let's hope they get shut down soon.  BEWARE.

A man with an accent called me asking for information relating to my loan application. He knew my full name. I said I hadn't applied for a loan and  he said " then how do I have your information?". I said I didn't know how they got it and asked them to delete it from their system. Then he hung up on me.

No information is given at the store. you buy a greendot credit card at any grocery as you would any random item. take it home, open it up, then you have to call greendot customer service and register your greendot card. because of the patriot act, it has to be registered with ssn, dob, name etc, and as i said before if you try to use incorrect identity info it will NOT register you until correct identity info is provided. however, when you buy the moneypaks, no information is given to the cashier. greendot loads thr "anonymous" moneypak onto the card under the account of the greendot credit card holder, who has already given a ton of info. unfortunately in the case of scammers, they use stolen ID info to register their greendot credit cards.

btw, Sir Bedevere, greendot is a useful tool to send money to family once or twice, but if you do it often problems will arise. i was buying moneypaks here in ohio and my mom was loading them onto her card in california with no issue for a little while. my mom didnt have a place to live and i was trying to help her from across the country. Then all of a sudden, last christmas eve when i gave her the moneypak# to load it and she called in to do it - she found out that her card had been *cancelled*, her account shut down, and they told her that specifically, she would not be able to register a greendot credit card anytime ever again. i dont know what exactly caused them to do it, but im pretty sure it was *me* buying moneypaks for ger to use and her loading the card way back home. she was honest, figuring it was completely legal for her DAUGHTER to buy a reload card anywhere to help her out, but they said that ONLY the cardholder is allowed to buy their owb moneypaks. it is against their policies to buy a moneypak even for an immediate fanily memvers account. it left my mom stuck on the streets on christmas as they cancelled her card and she couldnt use it, and they had to send ME a refund check for the moneypak i purchased. . theur custoner service are all overseas- and they barely answer valid questions, and they are heavy on courtesy and low on solutions

I have received 2 calls about a loan approved, one a week. The first time I called to advise I NEVER applied for a loan. John Spade was the callers name. I asked for a supervisor and was told he was a supervisor.  I asked for someone above him. He stated there was no one above him, he'd take me off his list and put me on do not call list. I asked how he could when I didn't give him my info. He hung up on me. I called back demanding a manager. He again said no one above him. This is clearly a call center probably in India since that was his accent. I got a second approval call a week later. I called to resolve this again.  He said he would take care of it. I advised I would take legal action if it continues. Beware of this company and their calls. It sounds like fraud to me. The better business bureau is next.

I recently used a Green Dot card to send money to my brother. I don't know if he had to provide ID to pick it up but it wouldn't make any difference if he did ? a scammer would just have given me a fake name to match whatever fake ID he had handy. And he could have given any Social Security number he wanted because I didn't provide one and the people where he cashed it wouldn't have any way of verifying it. And in any case I doubt they'd ask for an SSN because most people wouldn't give it ? I know *I* wouldn't give my SSN to a cashier at Walgreens!

This is why I find that *cough* comment Interesting..    If it was that easy, the feds would close in on all these green dot scammers in no time MO.   Maybe not so fast if they where over seas in a foreign country though but they'd still be on to them.

I had a greendot card for internet purchases. The moneypaks i bought at the store were loaded onto my card in about 30 seconds by calling and giving the moneypak number and immediately loaded onto my card. they also dont identify in any way who buys the moneypaks.

Im sure it could be done, but the information found will not lead anywhere. Greendot cards have to be registered with name, SSN, etc. If you try to use incorrect information it won't register you. (!!).. however, they just recruit US citizens to sign up for this as new-school money mules, so the info they get won't show the real scammer, unless they are a US resident dumb enough to let it be traced to them.

Please clarify -- when someone (here, this someone would be the scammer) uses the Green Dot number given to them by the victim,  through what mechanism do they get the money on it?  Do they have to provide ID?  Is it done somewhere in person, or on line?   If ID is required, what's to stop the scammer from providing a phony ID?

It depends on what you used to pay it with! If it was debit or CC, then go to your bank and file a complaint/scam. But if you used the classic "greendot" card, kiss it goodbye!  It is illegal for any loan company to ask for money up front like this. This is a scam..

Yes, embarrassed to say i was just scammed.  they asked me for $120 upfront and that i was approved for $2000 loan and to call back in 2 hours.  then they said that Equifax took my money for collections and that they needed $380 more to pay off so i could get the loan.  Of course they couldnt take the money out of the loan.  my stupidiity for falling for the scam, but i am more worried that they now have my social security number!

now with reading other comments - same story... i feel for it hook, line and sinker!    I wish them all their bad karma ten fold!

There was a lady that leave a message in my voicemail  that my loan application has been reviewed and approved and stating that the reason the called because the need some details, if yes i tried applying online from choiceloan.com and i was pre-approved of 1000 instead of my 2000 application..and i spoke one time to a guy, i forgot the name that he gave it to me and discuss about the 6 months installment of 190d/payday..but all of the sudden he was cut off and he never call me back again..but i was thinking of scams so i did'nt mind about my loan anymore, the problem is all the info that they need including my employers number and my sss number was given to them..i'm so scared why i give all the info, what you think this financial institution is a scam?
