We are a software company, and I picked up a call for someone in our organization, just wrong country. When I asked who was calling, the guy gave me a name, and he was calling for "Austin Redding", but when I asked for the purpose of the call, he hung up. I don't mind legitimate business calls, even sales calls, but have no idea why these jerks do what they do. I even had one tell me they were calling on behalf of the BBB.

They called and when my admin said I wasn't available they hung up on her. Blocking number.

Gott a call from this number at my business. They had my name and asked for me. When I confirmed she was talking to me she said "I'm having a hard time hearing you, may I call you back?". The connection was fine and she did not call me back. Very strange.

Cyndy, I have received this call on 3 different days. I finally did pick up today. I said 'may I help you' and no one answered - finally hung up. I too am in software related field.

A common scam in the 70s was used a lot by office supply companies. And, yes, today it would be called phishing but it goes further than that. After getting some critical names---such as the office manager's---invoices for all sorts of things would start showing up. The amounts were not large and most companies would pay them without further investigation. But multiply the bogus invoices by a million and you have a tidy sum.
Of course, no product was ever delivered. Or, if something did get delivered it might be something like a dozen boxes of staples ---no big deal. But "box" would be a gross of small staple boxes of 1000 or 1,628,000 staples. A large corporation would pay for the goods and it would be months before it got things straightened out.By that time, the scammers would be long gone. Beware!

I just received a call from this number. It is IBM Rational Software Group. I had downloaded a whitepaper, and they are following-up to see what my needs are. So it is basically a sales call from IBM for business software. (I call it a survey below, because there is no option for business to business sales, and I would not classify this as telemarketer)

Wow! Thanks AIO! Nice list. I am a receptionist for a fairly large compnay and honestly 20% + calls daily are BS calls. I get so sick of them. I'm glad I've found this site. It's really helpful when I have some one on the line and can't tell it the are a legit call or not. Thanks again for the list.

Got a call from them today. I'm sort of in IT. Does anyone here use Salesforce? It's about the only place I can remember giving my information to recently.

Recieved call at work around 11:00 CST. It was a bad connection that kept cutting in and out but the caller did call out my first name clearly. I told the caller I'd return his call but couldn't.

I believe this organiztaion is webfilings.com; I registered for their free online session for my CPE requirements and this person was trying to see their service. Very bad cold call phone ethiquette...I hope this company realizes that by such practices they are hurting their image more than helping it grow.

We bought a new computer at Staples (Business Depot) on a Friday night and I got my first call from them on Wednesday morning. My phone number is unlisted and I had only had it for less than 3 days. We hadn't given the new number out to ANYONE yet, so it's quite obvious that Staples sells their customers' phone numbers to these telemarketing companies. We also don't have any credit card debt. Although we DID use a credit card to pay for this computer, we paid it off the following Monday.

| jamie 2011-06-06 20:48:35 Unknown |
They called me at work, they had my formal name first and last name, not the name I go by (ex David vs Dave). They were asking for a company I have never heard of....

I am the receptionist for my company, and I received a call from this number a few minutes ago. The caller asked for a person who is no longer with our company. I told her that, and then asked what the call was regarding. She said she was calling for "Mr Kevin" and would transfer to him once they got the person on the phone. I have received multiple calls for the same person, who is no longer here, and they all say the same thing. All of the calls come in from different area codes. I have had 3 just this morning. I had had a break in calls for a couple of weeks, but they seem to have started again.
I'm assuming it's a creditor call, because they are not asking to speak with anyone else.

Received a call from "Alan Greene" for my boss but this man had an India accent. He said he was calling for his boss, "Dermot McNulty" but would not say what the call was regarding. I asked the company name and was told it was "SAB". He wanted voicemail but would not leave a message with me personally.
| eDeb 2011-02-23 16:25:59 Unknown |
Now they have my number! I am also in IT (or used to be) and they just started calling my work number. They leave a voicemail message, but there is no one speaking on the message. Just a lot of background noise!

They're on a run...just hit me at 5:03 pm. I didn't bother to answer, and yes, I'm an IT person.

Anyone in IT/Computer who attends trade shows, conferences or subscribes to the trade rags has been put on the lists and sold and resold.
These telemarketing calls are usually lead generation calls. These are outbound call centers (US and overseas) with predictive dialers pumped full of our numbers from these lists. Usually the callers know very little about what they're pitching. They're just generating leads - getting you to agree to be contacted and so on.

This is obviously some bad marketing scam and I bet the similarity of all who have commented is that they are all listed on Fran Data. This started once I registered my company, yes in IT/Computer related. If all have received mail, calls and email from this company, I can almost guarantee you it is a direct result of that listing.
