I have been receiving calls from 415-295-5685 from an Indian man "named" Chris Murphy, saying they need me or my attorney to return their call and that it is extremely time sensitive and if I don't return the call I will have to face legal consequences. This was a voicemail on my cell phone...what's funny is I could hear an Indian woman in the background at the very beginning of the call asking if "they picked up"( I listened to it a few times as it was hard to understand some of what he was saying ) also a few days ago they called our house phone and my fiancé answered and stated I wasn't there ( I was ) he wrote down the name George Murphy and I heard him repeat it twice....so which one is it Chris or George?? I can see this is a scam and it is true a few months ago I went online and tried to get a payday loan BUT when they called and I realized it wasn't worth it I said no I wasn't interested!! I think it is horrible that because I applied for a loan I now have to worry about my info being sold!! I have enough to worry about!! I am moving soon so I think I will be changing my number!!

Hi I get calls from 415-295-5685 same type of harassment as the others a Indian man by the name of George Murphy calls and leaves messages asking to speak with me or my attorney. About six months or so ago I applied for an online loan they called and after hearing what they would give and what I would owe I said no I was NOT interested....BUT I had no clue they would sell my info this is so unnerving!!! So I went to the ftc website like you said but I am confused on what to report because so far I don't think they have done anything to me...just harassing phone calls. So my question is what would that be considered?

A man with a foreign accent called looking for one of our employees.  He said that he was from a California Law Firm.  After reading all these posts, I definitely will not be giving him the message.  Thanks to all of you and this site for informing people of this scam.

They called me also it was very hard to understand.  Talked about a lawsuit was being filed.  I told them go ahead asked did I have an attorney.  Said yes wanted his name and number.  They called me 20 times within 10 minutes I kept hanging up they kept calling.  I finally beat the phone on the table real hard and they finally stopped calling.  Told me I had committed fraud with my pension and I was going to be sued.  I told him do whatever stop calling me.  I don't care.

This number called my phone and did everything you all just stated this is crazy something needs to be done this could scare the living day light out of someone !!!

SCARE TACTIC MY DEAR...DONT WORRY ABOUT IT DONT LET THEM KNOW THAT THEY ARE UPSETTING YOU BECAUSE THEN THE PHONE CALLS WILL NEVER STOP

If the callers will not send a debt validation letter via MAIL (not email or fax), proving you owe the debt to them, they are scammers.  Report them to the FTC, the FBI and your state's Attorney General.  Let them know that you've reported them.  They will probably keep calling - that's how they scare people into paying for debts they don't even owe.  Ignore the calls or block them.  Remember - if a debt collector will not prove you owe the debt then they are trying to scam you.

It's a scam - no one is going to arrest you.  Never pay for any debt which is not proven to be yours - legitimate debt collectors are legally bound to send you a debt validation letter showing original creditor, amount owed, date incurred and whether they are legally entitled to collect said debt in your state.  If someone calls and threatens you with arrest or garnishment of wages they are in violation of the FDCPA.  Report the calls to the FTC, the FBI and your state's Attorney General.  You may also wish to place fraud alerts with your banking institute and also with the big three credit agencies - Experian, Equifax and TransUnion.

Called me saying that I owed 800 to Cash Advance and about 13 other places. My dad lives in CA and he is investigating it. He found  the office and threatening them with the police and FBI They havent called me since, I still call to harrass them for the trouble they put me through

This number has called my phone for weeks called my cell and mobile called my work and when I called back said I was being sued there client was a cash advance and if I didn't comply with them the cops would go to my house or job arrest me to put me in a court house than the courts would make me pay 3000 and when I told them I'd like the cash advances number cuz I never got a cash advance they said they are calling the cops and hung up I called back every time I called the hung up on me and said the cops are on there way what do I do this just happened right now

These a***ole called me an my boss. I looked up the number an saw it was a scam. I don't even have a loan out. I called to address this an the hang up everytime. I'd like like to get a hold of there neck. I'm sure a Obama supporters once there non Americans.

They actually scammed me out of money. I want my money back - it was not a small amount!

I have been getting a call from this guy stating his name is Attorney James Anderson. I filed a police report and told him that I did and he stated that I was getting arrested on Monday.  I looked up Attorney James Anderson and contacted him to let him know that someone was impersonating him.  He called the state board and the local authorities out in california to let them know as well.  This really needs to stop, they need to find something better to do with their lives.  I used to work for a lawyer I know a scam when I see it.

I received one phone call to my cell phone and two to my work phone (at the same time)from an individual with a heavy Indian/Middle Eastern accent who said his name was 'David Smith' and that he represented an attorney named 'Michael Carter' who was suing me on the behalf of an unnamed third-party. I asked several questions regarding who was suing me, why were they suing me etc.. only to be told that he didnt have that information and that I needed to call 'Mr. Carter' directly (at the same telephone number that 'Mr. Smith' was calling me from) and to be ready to give him my attorneys name, his telephone number and my social security number. 'Mr. Smith' did not have very good command of the English language and from his delivery style it was obvious he was reading from a prepared script - and not doing a very good job of it in the process!

The bottom-line is that this is a scam, and that (per several of the comments Ive read on this site) there are multiple similarities to the scenarios being played out by these fraudstersfishermen.

I TOLD HER THAT I WAS CALLING ON BEHALF OF AN ATTORNEY'S OFFICE AND THAT I DEMANDED TO KNOW WHY MY CLIENT WAS RECEIVING CALLS AT WORK REPEATEDLY FOR NO REASON, SHE DEMANDED TO KNOW MY BAR # AND WHEN I TOLD HER NOT UNTIL AFTER SHE LISTENED TO MY QUESTION SHE HUNG UP ON ME. WHEN I TRIED CALLING BACK SHE PICKED UP AND HUNG UP ON ME AGAIN. THESE PEOPLE ARE JUST TRYING TO GET AHOLD OF PERSONAL INFO TO CONTINUE FUNDING THEIR DUMBA** SCAMS

CALLED MY OFFICE TODAY ASKING FOR MY ASSISTANT SAYING THAT HIS NAME WAS DALE SMITH (WHATEVER HABIBE!) AND SAID THAT HE WAS CALLING FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF LEGAL AFFAIRS ON BEHALF OF AN ATTORNEYS OFFICE FROM THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA. IT WAS SO BAD YOU COULD TELL IT WAS ALL B.S.
THEN! HE STARTED TO GET HATEFUL WITH ME AND DEMANDED THAT I GIVE HER THE MESSAGE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE! THE REAL KICKER? HE CALLED ALL 3 OF OUR OFFICE LINES AT THE EXACT SAME TIME FROM THE EXACT SAME NUMBER WHICH MADE IT WHERE I COULDN'T RECEIVE ANY CALLS FROM ANY OTHER CUSTOMERS FOR A MINUTE. FREAKS!

I received a call from theses people threatening me to pay them money or they will have a warrant out hity arrest. I told them I with for the government and I will see them in court she hung up in my face. I called back many times to the number, and they picked up and hung it back up. Finnally some non English speaking guy answered and was very rude and hung up in my face. Now, it's my turn!! If I can fight for my country, I don't mind fighting these losers!!
