I just received a call from my brother.  A person by the name of Nina Howard called his home asking for me.   She was from AGA and Associates.  They gave me these two phone numbers: 415-504-1170 and 937-528-2498.  I won't be returning their call.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:
Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.

Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.

Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.

Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.

Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.>

For the record not everyone is deadbeat and lazy.  I work fulltime I'm a single mom and I have over $20,000 in medical bills from delivering twins early and them and I being hospitalized.  I had two forms of insurance on both kids and my portion is still more than I make in a year.  With that said I had to take FMLA due to my children needing me and the passing I one of my twins but that DOESN'T make me lazy.
See you don't know what people's situation is and I don't know who you think you are assuming people have no jobs and are lazy.
Hope you have a great day!

I received a call from a local number (775) 420-3785 from a Nancy Henry on my unlisted number with my maiden name that I haven't used in years or ever with this phone.  She said she has been trying to contact me and that she needed my statement at to call her on her personal extension at  (916) 969-8417. When I did it took me to a voicemail for Paul. I left a message then got another call this morning but from the 916 number.  Not sure what this is about.

when I got a call from this number, a lady told me that they would report my credit card debt to the IRS as a 1099....and that made no sense to me...I thought a 1099 was a form for self-employed people to use when filing their tax returns......

Debt Collector
received a call from a woman at a local number on my unlisted cell phone for my husband and provided the 415-504-1170 number for him to call back. I'm assuming this is a bill collector from the other comments and my major issue is that she said AGA and Assoc. was a "legal mediation firm" I thought it wasn't legal for bill collectors to pose as anything other than bill collectors?

I received a call this morning from 267-773-6190, cell number. The man on the message stated he was Paul Carson, calling from HGA Associates and that he needed a statement from myself or my attorney. I was to call back at 415-504-1170. Of course I didn't call back.

A couple things angered me about the call:
~He had my unlisted phone number
~He knew my name

I called the number at got a voicemail for Paul Carson.
I called the 281 number and it transferred me to a voicemail as well.
