I have received several calls from this number--usually 3 or 4 in a row. I never pick up, but it comes up on my cell as "California" and when I call them back the phone is silent--no ringing sound.

Receive calls almost every week from this number and they hang up. After finding information about the number on this website, today I had the satisfaction of picking up the phone and immediately slamming the receiver...twice. They called immediately after the first slam.
I feel better now.

They called me Tuesday at 9:36 am. Then Wednesday, they called at 9:23 am, 1:47 pm, and 3:32 pm. Then, today, Thursday they called at 9:41 a.m..
Someone must get to work around 9:00 a.m. (Eastern Time) and then begin dailing for dollars.

Called into our company (I am in a back office), asking for someone who I had never heard of. I could barely understand her because the connection was so bad, and she could barely speak English. I sent her to the HR dept.

Called for my boss.
Would not tell me the nature of the
call. Or take a mesage.

I started getting calls on my work line from this number two weeks ago.
Today I answered a call and there was nothing on the other line so I hung up. Then it rang again.
Then it rang a third time and left a message that was all 'gobbledygook'. It sounded as if somebody had accidentally called from their cell phone and all you hear was background noise of different people speaking. But it was weird also because it sounded like a recording that would stop periodically and then start over. The "message" lasted until my recorded timed out.

This number started calling me last week and now will NOT stop! It is my cell phone and they call me during the day when I cannot answer. They never leave a message, just call me EVERYDAY!

Calls here several times a day and the phone rings many times before they hang up, and within a few seconds they call back !! The I.D. reads NEXTIX-TEST. I do not answer it because I do not know who they are. We get too many telemarketers, and i am sick of it.

alcooney,
I don't mean to question your opinion, but just because I call a number and ask for someone by name means I want to collect a debt? In sales, I've called thousands of numbers over the past 25 years and never once was looking for money owed.
Now I don't blame you for feeling that way because the debt collectors are so annoying they overshadow sales calls. But by law the caller must tell you if this is an effort to collect a debt if you ask them directly.
If you read my response directly above yours you will understand who this company is and what they do, (verifying information for industrial magazine to be sent). Currently I receive about 20 or so and they are really useful to keep informed about innovations in the IT field. However, once or more times per year, the publisher requires that I verify my information, (address, job title, etc.)to continue receiving the publication.
Or, you may have subscribed to a home improvement magazine and this is a company trying to solicit additional titles from you. The loophole in our DO Not Call Registry is if you or anyone at the phone number ever had any dealing with a company this caller represents, then they are not held liable by the Federal Do Not Call Registry. You obviously have a computer, so I suggest you look it up to become an educated consumer.
And give your brother-in-law a break - this is one caller that isn't looking for money!

| puzzled 2009-10-09 21:42:06 Unknown |
So my cellphone is tied to my home IP address? That's a stretch...
| alcooney 2009-10-06 15:05:18 Debt Collector |
have had numerous calls, at least once a day.
i answered this number once.
they were asking for my brother in law.
he obviously owes somebody some money, since he has been laid off, and moved to another state.
i advised my brother in law of this, and has no idea. (of course he owes everybody money)
evidently they have paid money to access all his family information, and are stabbing in the dark that my sister is married to him.
why they think that they can get in touch with him through me is beyond me.
i told them that i didn't know him, and this was my private cell # , to NEVER call me again, but they keep calling.

(415) 508-3268
This is a magazine/trade publication fulfillment call and data center.
What that means is if you receive a "free" trade publication, when it is time to renew this company will call you to insure that all your contact and job information is current.
I receive about 15 free trade publications and they are extremely important in my day to day activities. These publications put me together with companies that supply items I use in my day to day job. For example, if you are in the IT or web industry, the publications cover new server technologies and all different types of new hardware and software with the ability to get additional info and quotes very quickly.
There has got to be over 500 of these magazines published every month in over 200 fields of industry, everything from dairy farming to oil production.
Because I have requested some of these magazines, they can call me without regard to the "Do not call list", because I deal with them or the magazine(s) they represent.
All they want to do is to verify your contact information so that the magazine doesn't go to the wrong person and gets throw away immediately.
Unfortunately, the least expensive way for the publishers to contact the database, is by using offshore, (mostly India), companies to place the calls. In addition, many of us in the USA equate a call out of nowhere with an Indian voice immediately with something really annoying when in fact they are just trying to collaborate your mailing information.
So before you get all annoyed, try to think if you or someone else at your phone number gets or has gotten a trade publication.
Oh, and one other thing. Many companies will give all the correct mailing info to get the trade publication for free. But when it comes to a contact phone number, they give out phony phone numbers, (so they never have to deal with a caller), and with the luck of the Irish it may just be your number.

I SUCCESSFULLY STOPPED THE CALLER!!
Media Marketing Group is a vendor that contracts with various magazine publishers to renew subscriptions to their magazines. I don't know if they solicit new subscriptions.
I'm a small business owner who subscribes to a particular magazine--it doesn't matter which, as I'll explain in a minute. After I had received several calls from this #, with no response after I answered, or no message left on my voice mail, one caller, who had a non-North American accent and who sounded like he was reading a script, identified himself with this particular magazine, asking me if I wanted to renew.
I told him I knew that they (whoever he really worked for) had to only be associated with the magazine, not the publisher or marketing arm itself (I had dealt with the magazine personally, previously), and explained the annoying phone calls. The caller seemed unable to respond for a second, and then repeated the script he was reading.
I then asked him what was the name was of HIS company, not the magazine, and could I speak to a manager? He responded with the name "Media Marketing Group," asked me to hold for a minute, and then he hung up.
I then emailed the magazine's umbrella company, NewBay Media, which publishes several magazines in various professional fields, such as Broadcast/Video, Professional Audio, Music Industry, Systems Integration, and K-12 Education (see www.nbmedia.com), explained the annoying phone calls, and asked if they were associated with this "Media Marketing Group."
I also asked them, if they were associated, to consider discontinuing their association because of these annoying (if not illegal) business practices (the caller asked me if I wanted to cancel the subscription--potentially damaging to a magazine). And if they weren't, to take measures to stop them because it was beyond my ability.
A NewBay Media Vice President over publishing (for the magazine to which I subscribe), emailed me back. Here is the email:
"Hi Mr. XXXXX -
"Thank you for bringing this matter to my attention and your earlier phone call as well.
"This company is indeed a vendor of ours authorized to re-qualify your subscription to the magazine. We have removed your name from the list and you should not hear from them any further. We will also be evaluating their practices. Thanks again.
"Sincerely,
"XXXXXX

I have not received any calls, since!!!
YOUR SITUATION MAY BE DIFFERENT!!! I am certain that Media Marketing Group contracts with MANY different publishers. If any of YOU READERS are receiving calls from them, you may be doing or may have done business in the past (subscribed) with a magazine that uses them as a vendor. Please do not contact this publisher unless you KNOW they have a direct relationship with you!
I would suggest you find the parent companies of any magazine (probably a professional one) to which you have ever subscribed in you life, or to which someone with whom you closely associate has ever subscribed in their life, and ask that company's publishing arm if they use Media Marketing Group, and then ask them to quit using them.
Let's get these guys!!!
Good luck!
