I got the same message only her name was Jennifer pitchford from phone # 415-685-4955 and never contacted me again

They are probably selling our public information to other companies to target demgraphic populations for certain products and such things. plus charge us for txting the number or some bs like that.

they think they are clever but it is kind of obvious when you can see they have seen your message, yet they do not respond. but hey were so interested and liked my photos.

this fake s*** is getting old when you are truly trying to find someone. has anyone actually txted number and found out what happens? did you get charged or what?

well since i live in upstate NY and somehow got message from her with the area code being a CA one i assumed it was fake. i asked for a response if it was not. no response, it is a scam. thank you all for the information because it is BS that someone looking for a significant other cannot look with out worried about being scammed. Damn shame.

Yes I got this request too. The person spoke briefly then said they have to log out.

Then she left that number

Got a message from this number same info. One photo female with all male friends, got suspicious and found this thread by googling the telephone number...same telephone number BEFORE I sent a text message lol

The account that is sending these messages is a fake account set up to send these messages in hopes that you will respond to them via text message. If you do, you will be sent a link that is a front for adult dating sites or a pornographic site, according to other posters here who did text the number. Sending this link is a crime, and it carries an even bigger sentence if sent to a child.

If you get a message with this number:

1) Unfriend the person sending the message.
2) Report the account to Facebook as either fake, spam, or scam.

In order to protect your information, as there is potential for identity theft as well:

1) Go to your privacy settings at the top of the page in the left hand corner.
2) Hide the following:
Your phone number
Your email address
Your date of birth (you can hide only year if you'd prefer)
3) Hide your friend list.
Report it to:
http://www.ic3.gov/default.aspx

Why am I telling you to hide this information? In the case of phone number, email, and DOB, there is no real reason this needs to be on Facebook. Anybody close enough to call or email you probably already has this information stored in their phone or email contact list. They probably know your birthday as well.

As for your friend list, I believe this is how this number is finding new contacts. Hiding your friends list will prevent the people you know from falling victim
