Got same call in MD this week; claimed mom wanted to rent our VRBO property and had E-mailed without response; asked for E-mail so he could resend message. Looking at HomeAway/VRBO scam site, one posting suggested he then sends E-mails with malicious software attached that will let him invade your computer. I changed my E-mail listing on VRBO site just in case, so will know anything coming from VRBO to other E-mail is fake. Apparently has been going on for a long time.

Just got a call saying his Mother - Brenda Smith- didn't get a response about my vacation rental. Wanted email address. Told him I wanted her phone number but he kept giving excuses. He finally hung up. Heavy accent & alot of background noise, like a call center. If you call back says magic jack customer unavailable. call originates from San Francisico, caller id says DONT ANSWER!

I have been getting a call from this number on a weekly basis. He has a heavy accent as described.
The story I get is that "his mom emailed me and I did not write back"... I just asked what he wanted from me.... not a clear response.
I asked what his mother's email address was... again he could not answer.
So now when he calls I just hang up. I'd like to report this number or block it.
I believe it is some sort of scam, but like the previous poster said, I'm not sure exactly what the scam is...

Jack, what kind of story did he lay on you. I too got a call.

The caller told me a story and then asked me for my email address. The problem was that his story included information that clearly -- but indirectly -- established he would already have my email address. Not sure what benefit he would derive from having my email address. In any case, I hung up. His accent was hard to distinguish, possibly European. 415 is San Francisco, not that that matters anymore.
