I've been getting atleast 2 phone calls a day for the past couple days, 1 on my work blackberry and 1 on my personal cell phone I refuse to answer because I've never seen 000 as the 3-digit portion of a phone number. Does anyone know about this number? I've gotten the calls from 416-000-1134 and 416-000-1397 as well

it is a spoof number...there are NO 000 phone numbers in the 416 area code...telemarketers use spoof numbers to fool people into answering their phones...i've had 4 seperate 000 numbers calling me for the last month...don't even bother answering...just hit ignore

you can thank your service provider (mine being rogers) for selling YOUR information!  this happened to me before and (after my complete harassment of rogers) they admitted to me that they do "contract third party companies" and provide customer information to them...which is a COMPLETE violation of our rights, in my opinion.  specially when we're paying THEM for this harassment!

in response, i used to spend close to $5000 a year with rogers between home phone, internet, hd cable and blackberry...that is now about $1500...and the MINUTE my blackberry contract is up...that will be $0!

stand up to these service providers who do this!  telus has been FANTASTIC...me thinks rogers needs some SERIOUS schooling in A) customer support and B) TACT!

I am also getting these 416-000 calls, I get them from multiple numbers and I am getting them on my home phone and work cell, even my room mate is getting them on a cell. They just started a few weeks ago..

I have answered a few times and no one is there..

Bell is one cell provider and Telus provides a cell and the home phone.

I've got 4 calls in the last month from 1-416-981-0001 (bell canada?)

I never answer the call and they refuse to leave a message!

Tiger hit the nail on the head when he said "I want to find out where these calls are being made from and then confront them personally"

added to it, I would personally like to see the gallows being erected back up in our town squares for the scammers and spammers who by the way don't have any concern or remorse  when scamming people out of their hard earned money or when selling your private or personal information which they have no right doing...these people do it to others but I KNOW for a FACT that they don't want it done to themselves....SO SICK of this world and how many hipocrites and just plain AS-HOLES there are any more!!!

Phone companies only listen to a loss of revenue. Step one, cancel your voice mail (it may be inconvenient for a while but worth it in the long run) then look at the call display and if you don't recognize the number don't answer until after you check out this site.

Now you have their attention, loss of revenue from both the voicemail feature and the airtime. It might work if enough people tried it.

It works for me, just program them into your directory with a silent ring and you never hear them call.

have received calls from 416-000-1357, 416-000-3571, and 416-000-7935 for the last week on my emergency phone (Rogers pay-as-you-go). They have left messages several times which I am being charged for, even though I don't listen to the voicemail.

I got one of these calls recently too and since I know there is no such thing as 416-000-xxxx, I didn't answer the call. What these jerks think they are accomplishing is beyond me. Do they really want to have customers who hate their guts for pulling this kind of crap? I certainly wouldn't .....

I do not believe it is related to "do not call list" since I am getting this calls on my pay-as-you-go cell phone, that I didn't register in "do not call list". I keep this phone only for emergency (do not use this phone at all) and number got only my wife. I have this phone about 4 years and this calls started about 3 month ago.

The latest number I was called was 1-416-000-1134. I am called more and more on my cell pay-as-you-go. My number is not listed and if I pick up the phone, it cost me 40 cents instantly. If I call back, I get message the number do not exists, check and dial again. Since numbers don't exist, scammers are using some Rogers or Bell "not used numbers" list. I think Rogers and Bell could be charged because scammers have access to their data base and that they do not seem to do anything about it.

I have to pay for these marketing calls that come in on my cell phone and am fed up.  My cell phone number is not listed and I like it that way.

When the "do not call" list was created, cell phone numbers were automatically added. That list was then sold to american and european companies as they cannot be charged under Canadian law for making calls from the list.

Check out this Toronto Star article and RCMP comments about the compnay that cold call Canadians selling them car warranties - ""Your factory warranty is about to expire ... You are still eligible to reactivate warranty coverage ... This is the final call before we close the file. Press 1 to speak to a representative about your vehicle, press 2 to be taken off the follow-up list."

Sound familiar? Chances are if you're living in Canada and own a phone you've received one of these calls.

If so, you might have noticed they're coming from all over the U.S. ? Nevada, California, Florida. .

But watch out, police say. The people calling you don't actually have any idea about the warranty on your car. They don't even know if you have a car.

They're cold calling you from call centres in the U.S. and trying to sell you on a warranty that many mechanics may not honour, industry officials say.

"It's a nightmare," said Lou Robertson, head of Phonebusters, the RCMP's anti-fraud unit, which has received countless complaints from people receiving the call.

"They lead you to believe that there's some type of urgency. They're walking on a very fine line. I'm sorry, but it's not a proper way to do business in Canada."

Bell cell phone.  I've gotten 4 calls from 416-000-1357 but refused to answer them.  I'm also getting calls from Washington and California even though I don't know anyone from those states.  I suspect that it may be related to the "Do Not Call List".

I've been getting the calls more frequently now and from a couple different numbers. They are:
416-000-7935
416-000-3179
416-000-1357 <--- I've had two from this number today.
I don't even own a vehicle! These numbers are long distance, so I've been refusing to answer them after I figured out what they were, but they need to stop! It's harassment.

I guess Rogers is handing out numbers to increase there wireless phone revenues. I'm with 7eleven, but it's on the Rogers phone network. I've been getting these calls for the last two weeks. The source phone number varies. I too only use this phone for emergencies and do not provide the number to any non-family members.  How did they get my number?

1-416-000-1357 called my cell phone (Rogers) 2x so far today to. This is my emergency phone so I do not give out the number. Have no idea how they got my number.

The second time they called they left a message.
Very irritating
