The number shows up on kijiji numerous times. When you can apparently new purchase an item with a MSRP of $3995.00 for $100.00, you know its a scam.Report this ads immediately . It's the only way of helping the police stay on top of these types of low life's.

I was looking to see if others had experienced calls like this and found this thread. My dad received a call claiming to be from VISA in regards to his credit card. The man had an Indian accent as well. As soon as my dad said he didn't have a VISA card the man said "Why don't you kill yourself?" My dad asked to speak to the supervisor, again the creep asked, "Why don't you kill yourself?" My dad finually hung up. The guy asked this question 5 times during the call. My parents don't have caller ID and he didn't think *69 would help because he believed it was VISA because it began with the recording. I hope karma catches up with this guy.

They are calling the netherlands now also.. trying to get my card info..

He had bad connection and hardly to hear what he said, was suspicious straight away..
Gave them nothing so he hung up on me quite soon, shame as i was just a 100% sure it was a scam i wanted to piss him off alot.

I do not get why they still are not caught , betting atleast 1 in a 100 gets tricked by them this should be a police matter , or federal..

Shame this still happens alot.

Do not get tricked , if anyone calls u and with an offer.... mmmmm
Good luck , D.

Funny you mention that he called you as a MasterCard/Visa company.  He called me and said he was from a mortgage company and continued to ask me personal questions about my mortgage.  I continued to tell him that I was not comfortable giving him this information as I did not know who he was.  The tone of his voice changed and he responded in an upset manner, "Why?!"

During our conversation I thought to myself - when banks call, their company name normally shows up on caller ID.  Weird numbers like 111-1111 or 123-4567 is a red flag.

Anyone getting calls from (416) 111-1111, it is definitely a SCAM!!!!

I received a call today from an individual who did not identify themselves but did say that he was working for Bell Mobility.  He told me that my number had been selected to receive a free cell phone and he needed my information to "process my application".  This guy was clearly not a Bell Mobility employee as (a) he could barely communicate in English, (b) could not tell me exactly who he was looking for, and (c) both my roommate and I are already existing Bell Mobility customers and have been for quite some time.

So I told the guy straight up that he was full of it, and told him he was not a Bell Canada employee.  In the background I could hear other people with similar accents saying similar things (i.e. "Hello I am with Bell Canada and your phone has been selected to receive a free cell phone...").  I told him he was a scam artist and he became quite offended with me.  He kept saying "Don't call me a scammer....I am not a scammer...if you could give me your name I can process your application".

This is a well established operation and I have found many other "stories" about scammers from this number online.  I work as a Private Investigator so here's some advice:

Never give your personal information to anyone over the phone.   It looks too much like a scam.  No legitimate organization will try and gain business and sales leads in this manner.  Most of the people they contact probably wouldn't believe them and may alienate potential customers rather than attract them.  With business, it's all about the bottom line.  Businesses do not give away anything for free.  Think about it:  Bell Mobility hires several people and pays them salaries so they can give away their products for nothing? Hell no.  That's a frivolous waste of resources.  They aren't gaining anything from it.  If anyone is sending you anything for "free", they will likely require something tangible in return.

Think "Customer Service and Sales" when you're talking to them.  The one thing that stood out about this guy that called me was the fact that he couldn't speak English and his speed, pitch, and tone of voice was extremely hurried and nervous sounding.  Anyone working Customer Service will have a lot more interpersonal skill sets.  A real salesperson or CS Rep will be fairly calm and collected with a friendly tone.  Anyone with an aggressive tone is either (a) not legit or (b) probably not someone you want to do business with anyways.

Your private information is subject to Government regulation.  Under Privacy legislation in Canada, any organization that collects private information must do the following:

Identify the purposes for which the information is being collected.  Ask them what information they need and why it is required for them to send you the cell phone (or whatever other line they give you).  Any real company will have a pre-written response and the caller would be expecting the question.  If you ask why and they dodge the question, they aren't real.

Provide immediate and unlimited access to the organization's privacy policies.  This is just like when you go to a restaurant they have to provide you with a nutritional value chart for the food that they serve.  Ask them where you can view their privacy policies.

Designate a "Privacy Officer" and provide a process by which the information can be challenged.  This means they have to have someone you can contact to verify the information as accurate.  If you ask for a call back number, they should provide one to you if they're the real deal.  Many such scams use IP phone lines that mimic other jurisdictions, so while my scammer call came back as a Toronto area code, the call could have come from anywhere in the world with an internet connection.  The problem is that many of these cannot receive inbound calls and the scammer won't be able to give you anything that will work.

Good luck!

I had the same thing happen to me at 8:55 tonight.  It was a guy pretending to be from Bell.  He had an Indian accent and asked me phone questions, when i said to put my number on his do not call list, he said he would if i answered one question, i said what's that...he said what's your boob size?  I said what?  and he said it again.  Said his name was Allan (doubt it) and that he was calling from his home phone in Ottawa, ON.  Sounded like a call centre in the background.  ugggh!

Ya -- they called tonight saying I won a trip through visa/mastercard.

He gave a big speel, then said So to confirm this could you give me your security number?

I said -- No... send the information to the address listed.

He said they could do that, if I first confirmed that I was the card holder...

I said --- Sorry, I guess I'll have to let this offer pass. Thank you.

( I provided no information, no digits, no address... immediately gave all the signs of a scam)

The guy just called me and said he was from a visa/mastercard credit system and wanted to offer me  a  free vacation package to Orlando, Florida for my good credit history.  I told him, I am not the person of the card holder and that he should call another time.  He got angry and said he works for the Federal Government and is trying to do something nice for me and that I should be a little more courteous.  Really weird guy with an East Indian accent.

My caller, with a very heavy accent and poor connection with background noise, was telling me that because I was such a good customer and paid my bills on time, I was going to get a free trip to Florida.  He knew my name and address but was asking for more info from my credit card.  I hung up.  Disturbing & Scary!

Same dude has called me twice in the past month.  Knowing it was a scam, the second time I decided to have some fun.

I acted all excited that I was being offered a free trip.  He asked me my expiry date, I made one up and gave it to him.  He said his name was Bruce Wayne - yup, Batman himself calling little ol' me.

He passed me off to his supervisor.  I hung up.

The supervisor called back and asked why I hung up - I said that I didn't and that he hung up on me.  He profusely apologized.  He then went on to confirm that I knew all the details about this uber vacation to Florida.  He went on to explain how we score hidden points for using our card, and that is why I won.

I asked him which of my two mastercards was the winning card.  He stated that 5 mastercard companies participate (Chase, Canadian Tire, etc) - I told him that I have  Chase and Canadian Tire MC (I don't) and he said "Yes".

Total BS - he wanted my number so I said, could I call you back.  He gave me to 1-800 number for CTF and said his name was Jason Roy.

Sometimes it's just fun to play...

Got a call today saying he was from Visa and Mastercard Central  saying I'd won a trip all expenses, hotels drinks and meals to Orlando Florida. I said what do you want from me?  He stopped and said What?  I repeated my question and he said "nothing you won the trip and everything is paid, why do you ask?" I told him that the last time someone said I won a trip they wanted my visa number.  He said "no you will get a package with the information in the mail in a day or two and you will get a free trip." then he hung up on me.
