Marketplace ran an episode on this topic (To Catch a Telemarketer) on January 11, 2013. Apparently they were able to track down the offenders, something the CRTC is unable to do. I believe it was the first of a 2 part story. Can be viewed online:

These are unscrupulous duct cleaning companies operating out of Toronto but using call centres in Pakistan to avoid Canadian laws. Apparently the CRTC or law enforcement are completely helpless in dealing with these out of country telemarketers.

Perhaps we should focus our attention on the Canadian companies that actually use the services of foreign telemarketing services to avoid our laws. Unfortunately, I suspect this may prove futile, as the telemarketers never truly reveal who they represent.

I wish the bull5hit 'do not call registry' taht we all tax payers pay will do something thing. I am so sick and tired of hearing from these idiots.  If they are using Google voice or any other voip service to call,with the amount of complaints there is, crtc OR Bell Or Rogers should be able to go after the provider of the service!!

During one call, the rep told me that the actual name of the company is "The Air Duct Cleaning Company" and that their office is in Thunder Bay, but had no concept of the distance to the Toronto area where he was trying to sell his services (over 1,300 kilometres).
Last week CBC was reporting on this scam, and said the call centre is in Karachi, Pakistan.

got a call from this number at 2:10 pm only rand once and then again at 6:10 pm and again only rang once, I know this is a call from a duck cleaning company as they have continuded making calls to my number, have reported them but to no avail. The do not call list is a big joke

We get calls EVERY DAY for air duct cleaning, and not just from this number. I have started keeping track the last 4 months and it's now about 63 times in 4 months...RIDICULOUS! I belong to the "no call list" yet they keep calling. I told them I'm in an apartment and to take my name off the list, but no, they keep calling. I've been nice, I've sworn at them, I've tried it all. It's harrassment. How can we make it stop?????

Tell them you're very interested, and have them send the cleaners to an out of town location, in the boonies preferably, but don't send them to somebody's house.

They likely work with a local business. If enough people waste this company's time and money with bogus locations, maybe the business will stop hiring telemarketers.

Also when the driver realizes he's lost, he will call you directly, and then you'll find out who the company is, should you care.

Don't get mad, get even.

Tell them your a cop or a 911 dispatcher that might shut them up.

Always get calls from these guys so now i waste their time!Asked if he had a good family,morals etc...Then asked if he would like to meet in person so i could show him how to put a phone up his air duct!!Finally got him mad so he told me where i lived and said he would see me Sunday Jan.6th. Told him i was looking forward to it although it,s more hot air!

Jerks - they called me yesterday, on New Year's Day, a holiday, during our dinner time.  Told them to get lost!   Get the Panasonic cordless phone and add them to the Call Block list, which is a feature of that phone.   Block 416-225-8623.

Receiving calls daily and sometimes twice daily. I asked to be removed from their call list but still continue to receive calls.

Call the CRTC and make a complaint - I've had 4 calls this month from these guys and just reported them.  What annoys me is that I have to pay for call block when I have reported them before.  There is no reason a company should call repeatedly from the same number and the CRTC not kill the number.

This 'air duct cleaning service' calls us at least five times a week, sometimes more.  After months of this I decided to play their game and waste their time.  I asked for a quote and said I'd call them back.  After much resistance, 'Assad' told me I could call him back at 905-698-2042. Of course that phone number is out of service too.  So frustrating.

Since I bought a cordless Panasonic, i have no problems such as batteries, neighbors telling me they could listen to my conversations etc and the big bonus was the feature of Blocking Calls. Priceless !!

I keep slamming the phone down on these jerks but they persist in calling. Today I answered, (forgot to look at phone screen first), said hello twice and then slammed the phone down, loud enough I hope, to annoy as much as I was annoyed.

When asked, they say yes they've heard of the National Do Not Call Line. So, why are they still calling me? Even when I hang up on them?

Maybe we should get together and go after the phone company that is making this harassment possible. some sort of class action, What do you think?

It seems like they call at random times during the day. Are they trying to see if I'm home? I'm getting concerned they are 'watching' my home to see when they can send someone to rob me blind.

HOW do i get these people to stop calling me?? They have phoned me a total of ten times in five days...two calls per day, at the most inconvenient times. I have told them i am not interested, yet they still keep calling. SO annoyed!!

I am getting daily calls from these people.  As soon as you start questioning them they hang up.  Does anyone know they are trying to gain from this?  They seem a bit old to be playing phone cranks.   I am going to start blowing a very loud horn into the phone.

I knew he was a telemarketer as soon as I heard his voice. I asked him what are you selling and he hung up. I called back goy busy signal 2 times and the 3rd time I got a fax ring.
