calls 2,3 times a day? dah?

This is a computerised system that checks any active numbers. With most cases the system does not speak at all or it just hangs up and checks that it is an active line. Most probably for telemarketing systems for mobile phones which is already being put to ban. Kind of like similar to the one you will get at home number.

My suggestion is that you do not answer it at all because if the computer does not respond to the actual pick up response from the owner of the phone the computer will tag that line as invalid leaving you with less headaches to deal with.

How do I know that? call me cypherpunk  ;)

got a call from this number, nobody answers the phone.
Most likely computer dialer checking active numbers.

Just got a call from this number.  Somebody speaking in the background then hang up.   Calling back says this # is not in service.

Call from this number claiming to be TD Canada Trust. Sounds like telemarketers, trying to sign up people for TD life insurance or TD disability insurance.
when you call the number back it doesn't connect.

Claimed he is calling on behalf of Direct Energy on our home.  I said we sold the property and no longer live there.  He requested we fax the proof of sales ot 1-866-566-0934 or else they will call collection agency.  I think it's a scam.

They call how many times every day, at all times, and don't leave a message.  When I call them back, I get "this number is not in service".

Pause after saying hello. some lady finally speaks up and asks "I'm speaking to _____" (doesn't ask as a question, sounds more like a statement)
No one lives here by that name...so I tell her that, and she says sorry, and I hang up.

Calling the number back I get a response saying the number is not in use... weird...

I receive calls from this number several times a day however I never answer when it's a number I don't recognize. You'd think the auto dialling would now declare my number invalid! If someone I know calls from a number not in my address book, they'll leave a message. Aside from clearing the cache of calls per day I never have to speak to a telemarketer.
A few people posting have said this call originates from Direct Energy. A warning note: Direct Energy has been in the news for the past few years regarding unsavoury practices. I believe it was Marketplace on cbc that did an expose on their high power sales techniques. Go to cbc.ca and type in Direct Energy for more information on this company, and beware!

I KEEP GETTING A PHONE CALL FROM THIS NUMBER, IT IS NOT IN SERVICE, I TRIED CALLING BACK. I GET THE SAME CALL FROM 3 DIFFERENT NUMBERS EVERY DAY 416-488-8181, 519-999-8686, 866-379-3222. AFTER GOOGLING ALL OF THESE NUMBERS THERE IS ALWAYS SOME REFERENCE TO DIRECT ENERGY, I DON'T KNOW WHY I KEEP GETTING THESE CALLS, BUT I WOULD LIKE TO!!! I got called almost everyday but did not answer.  Today, I answered and he said he is calling on be half of Direct Energy sayin we have a contract with them until June 30, 2010.  We sold the house six months ago.  It's a scam.

Paul Barnard, 57, has already been given a two-year conditional sentence for his role in the scam along with a lifetime ban from telemarketing.

The Competition Bureau said scammers will face stiffer charges in the future due to 2009 amendments made to the Competition Act that allow for harsher punishment.

Fromstein was charged under the earlier version of the act.

The Competition Bureau worked closely with the U.S. Federal Trade Commission, PhoneBusters, Montreal police, and the Toronto Strategic Partnership - a group of eight organizations ranging from the Toronto police to the U.S Postal Service - during the investigation."

i got a call from this number today - i called back and it was a telus mobitlty message saying the number is not in service???

Got a call last night wife answered. Direct Energy wanted to know why we canceled contract.

call several times a day no on answers, no message when it goes to machine.

I keep getting this call repeatedly and I cannot even keep my cordless off the charger! They keep killing it!I wish these people a very short life!They cannot fall off the face of this earth soon enough!When I answer no one is there and when I call back to find out what their problem is,the number is out of order!Please hit these fraudulent idiots hard!!!! They deserve it!!
