Kept getting calls over the past week or so from a 647 number that showed as "Toronto Mut" on my phone.  Seems from the above comments it Toronto Mutual.  It was a man calling from Canada Life. Said it was about my home and something about mortgage insurance. Didn't get his name, I was so incensed, but I said "how did you get this number?" The guy was smarmy oily smooth. Said the number was given to them. I wanted to know who by. He reference another individual who was apparently canvassing in the area. I was even angrier by then that a) someone had allegedly given out my private, on the do-not-call list number and b) wouldn't answer my questions. I snapped "not around here buck" and hung up.  

Hopefully that's the end of it.

Happened to me today, guy knew my name, number and address... told me he got it from the Government... if I was interested in shopping around my insurance I would call them... leave me alone!!! SCAM!!!

Scammer called me while I was eating my dinner and I told them never to call me again.

Number came up 416-449-9339  Toronto Mutual.  
Woman asked for me by name and said she was calling from Canada Life about Mortgage insurance.

I said she had called a number on the "Do Not Call List" .   She said "I didn't know that" and I replied that she should have and hung up.

Got a call today from this number. The guy was extremely rude. He asked for my mom by her formal name so I asked him politely she is here but may I ask who is calling and he wouldn't even tell me. He said I don't need to know I just want to speak with her so I hung up on him. I don't understand why it's so difficult for him to answer a simple question considering I was being polite with him.

A guy named Mark called me and told me he was with Canada Life.  He started talking about my mortgage and some kinda cash back plan, and wanted to set up an appointment the next day with "Mark".  I asked how he knows I have a mortgage and how he got my number and address, and he said they're approaching everyone in the neighborhood.  I asked again how he got my number (cell), and he said he didn't know and that Mark would know.  I asked for Mark's number, and he said he didn't feel comfortable giving out a private number.  I said, he has mine so it's only fair.  He refused.  I then asked for Mark's last name and he refused.  I then asked for his last name and he refused.  He then asked again if I wanted to set up an appt. and I asked why I would do that if you can't give me last names. He said, that's a good question and then hung up on me.

I'm pretty tight with my cell# so I don't know how the #$% they got that and my address.

It's people like who that keep people like them making money. Do research and get your own planner yourself. If they are worth their salt, they don't need to resort to telemarketing. When  companies ignore the DNC list, they  lose all credibility with me.

Not so ridiculous...Consumer percption of the Industry is very negative...so much so that the Gov. needed to implement legislation for 'calling'..and so it would be almost intuitive that anyone defending telemarketers is being at best, deceptive...deceptive marketing is now punishable under CCPSA (C-36).If you are part of the industry and dont get this by now, liar is not the right word.....Stupid seems to fit much better.

I don't know what you people are complaining. I got a call from them last week and made an appointment. A professional financial advisor came out and helped me with my financial situation. He actually helped me to save 240 bucks a month on my insurance. Great. Thank you.
