B***s***. They asked me for the 3 digit number on the back of my card. Legitimate banks would never do that!

Idont have a master card account....

I received the same phone call, it was legitimate. They were just calling to verify. When in doubt, call your master card number, they should have the questionable phone call on file.

This is a legitimate HSBC fraud prevention call. If you are concerned about the 416 number the call is coming from then phone them back at the number on the back of your HSBC Mastercard instead and you will discover that they are simply verifying recent transactions that don't fit within your normal spending pattern.
You want calls like this!

This is in fact HSBC Securities Department. They just want to verify recent transactions to make sure they're not fraudulent charges.
They are simply calling diligently to protect your account.
If you are so afraid of this "416" number, feel free to instead call the number on the back of your HSBC credit card. You will reach the same people. Also, it should be toll free unless you're putside North America or something.

They claim they are with HSBC Fraud Department regarding suspicious activity. They provide a number for you to call them back: 866-605-4722. Called the 866 number and it advises you that your call is being re-directed, call area code (011) yada yada yada and the automated recording states you must be 18 years of age or older and calls will cost $3.99 per minute.
Not happy at all.
