My son received this call on his cell phone and got charged 1.50. Perhaps it's somehow connected to cell phone providers. 1.50 per cell phone subscriber a month would bring in a hefty revenue!! Don't you think?!?!?

Just got this call. I did not pick up, but i guess it must be an automated survey from Scotia Bank because I went to a branch today and after every visit an automated voice system calls me to check satisfaction.

I get this call daily 3 to 4 times, usually 30 mins apart, thank you derek for supplying the number to complain about them and to be put on a do not call list.  Hopefully that will stop the daily calls that I receive.

Just pick up and hang up on them. or ignore them. forget about the do not call list, it doesn't apply in these cases. it is NOT Scotiabank or this so called Optimus on behalf of Scotia....

I have asked scotia bank repeatedly to not give my number to their "partners" whom wish to offer me specials, insurance, credit cards etc....this number is a nuisance as often they do not even say anything...just a hangup.

I called scotiabank because my husband answered and they said they are calling on behalf of them. I called a scotiabank rep and they said they DO NOT have companies that do that and to NOT give any information, just hang up as it is likely a fraudulent company.

I am in Toronto and just received a call from this phone #.  The call is from OPTIMA who is calling on behalf of Scotia Life Insurance offering Accidental Death Insurance.  Just tell them to put you on their DNCL or Do Not Call List.

called me twice this week..but it connect to philipines...cheap labour.

i added this number in my phone book i named the contact "do not pick up" it works though
i do that to every telemarketer i get and then i get all the phone numbers ofcourse i know they have MILLIONS of phone numbers but fine.... this is my first one i got from this company though

the call quality was very VERY VERY poor could barely understand him THEN he accused me of not being canadian that i cant understand english bla bla bla ...now that really made me upset cuz i know i can speak english perfectly fine!!!!!

and funny thing... he first said 20 dollar a month and later he said 25 dollar.... so which is it!?

The woman behind the phone did not even know how to speak properly, and she was half mumbling and half going over something on the computer. I told her that unless it was something important, to call me back later, and hung up.

I just received a call from this number today. Actually missed the call, but wasn't screening - no message of course. This site is generally useful (aside from some of the petty bickering - we're all entitled to our opinions and preferences - however, if you can't say something nice... further we're all here because of our frustation with telephone solicitation so let's productively focus our strength against the common enemy instead of against each other). Anyway, because of this site I learned that it was Optima/Scotia calling. This makes sense since, although I don't actually bank with Scotiabank, I did recently get a credit card with them. Disappointing, but they are all the same...

I have a landline still at the house (yeah - I know.... I still have a BLACKBERRY too.... lol).  My solution to these fine folks is this.... My computer printer is also a fax machine - which I always leave connected and set to answer after 4 rings.  If I recognize the number -great - I pick up.  Otherwise Rajneesh or Pango or whomever gets an earful of FAX screech.... Ah..... I feel my blood pressure going down a little already!

This is not true. They hire Optima Communications to make the calls for them. And Optima won't actually collect any information from you, they just confirm the information they have on file is correct. If asked Optima will provide you with the number to ScotiaLife so you can call and confirm they are legitimate.

There offices are in Toronto dude. Not india. Just because you might speak to someone who sounds middle eastern doesn't mean the didn't immigrate to canada. Seriously get your head out of your butt.

Have call forwarded landline to cellphone.  Great thing about cellphone is you can set up ring tones or silence.  So when find out these numbers are telemarketers, I just silence the ringer in the contacts, set LED and vib off so don't even know they have called.  Might get bugged by first time they call and if don;t recognize number let it go to voice mail.  99% of time no voice mail left.  When call again, don't even know they called until look at cellphone.  Now only bothered about every other week with one unknown call number.  Haven't been suckered into buying something I don't need, nor giving out information that they are trying to get out of people.  Saves a lot of stress.
