Statute of limitations depends on what type of debt it is and what state it is in.

Write them a letter and tell them you do not discuss financial matters over the phone. In the event is over 2 years since the last payment you do not have to worry about paying the debt. They have to get a court order to collect from your employer and they cannot seize your bank account. They must sue you to get this authority and they only have 2 years to file and take you to court. After a period of 6 years the credit bureau must take the debt off of their books and your credit history will not show the debt. The vampires like CCA have no more authority to collect debts than anyone else on the street acting as an agent for someone wishing to collect a bad debt. In most cases they buy the bad debt for pennies on the dollar and hope to make a big profit when they collect anything. If you want to settle tell them you do not deal with collection agencies, ONLY with the person you owe. CAUTION: ANY PAYMENT YOU MAKE, EVEN ONE DOLLAR MEANS THE PERIOD IN WHICH THEY CAN SUE STARTS ALL OVER AGAIN. ALL DEBTS DISAPPEAR AFTER SEVEN YEARS SO DO NOT PAY THEM ANYTHING. ANSWER THE CALL AND PUT IT ON HOLD OR JUST LET THE PHONE SIT THERE UNTIL THEY HANG UP. NOT ANSWERING DOES NOT HELP SINCE AUTOMATED SYSTEMS JUST KEEP CALLING.

The Office of Consumer Affairs (OCA) with Industry Canada states on their website http://www.ic.gc.ca/eic/site/oca-bc.nsf/eng/h_ca02149.html "You must be notified in writing that your file has been given to a collection agency." So if a credit agency is continually phoning that hasn't first contacted the person-in-question by MAIL, there is no requirement to even speak to that individual. The rules also state that a credit collector cannot call at unreasonable times (typically outside normal business hours), use offensive language, be verbally abusive or threatening. I received one unnotified call, didn't answer, did a quick internet search, then just simply blocked the number. Done.

This person called my house three times in a row - when I answered I asked why they are calling three times back to back and he asked me why i didn't pick up the first time - I top him it's borderline harassment and not to call - we didn't even get to the part of him telling me his name or who he was calling for - I told him I have a sick person in the house and no one here owes anything to that agency - he hung up on me - then called back !!! When I picked up he said "have any money to pay yet" and started laughing - but I got ahold of the company after some research ...

Know your rights everyone !!! Look up the debt collection act - also helps you if they are calling the wrong number - the consumer protection also helps to launch complaints

An unnamed man calls at 7 am demanding money from a "John". When I ask him who he is I was told it didn't matter and that John should" Pay his F@#$$%g Bill. I told him to FO and hung up.

Obviously a collection agency - asked for someone with same last name as someone in the house but first name of Robert.

CCA is a credit place, I called and said im not todd graham check the yellow pages this PH# belongs to me, they reply oh no one has called since Nov 2010 ,Im like b***s*** she called 3 times in a row woke my 1 month old son at 7 am 10 min ago and left a nasty message about hiding behind an answering machine wont make the creditors go away Mr Todd Grahanm.. I Hate Stupidsget the right phone number then harras people. There should be a LAW So I can Sue for wrongeful annoyance, these ppl cant seem to wrap it around their head that if they are in debt they probably wont be honest about there contact info ...DUH

Just recieved a phone call today asking for a certain person.  I told them this person does not live here.  They asked if I knew this person personally, I told them I knew of someone by that name but they have never lived here.  She then told me that yes he does and im covering for him!!  WTF??  I then said who the hell are you and why are you even calling here, and where are you calling from asking me personal questions about someone. She told me her name was Kristen from CCA in Scarborough.   She then got NASTY AND RUDE to me asking why im asking her that if I didnt know this person and that he didnt live there..  I was like wow lady you are messed up!  #1.  Ive heard of this person, #2 this person does NOT live here #3.  I have no information about this person to give you.  and then I told her to f*** off and not to call here again and hung up!!!!

We got a call this morning, and they used the actual name of a family member.  We don't have a clue what it's about.

called - knew the company's name but asked for a false name and then tried to get information, when i asked who they are she said why was I getting so paranoid - initials CCA came up on call display

This number called me and told me if I didn't come up with someone else's debt that they would chop off my hands and electrocute me.

This is a company that frequently calls numbers from a list to ask if you want to collect on any outstanding Commercial debt.  They work on 10 cents on the dollars if recovery effected.  They leave a message to call them. But have not heard of any harassing methods--yet!  Report them to local Justice Department or Ministry of Commercial affairs in Ontario if you are experiencing problems. You do not have to report them.
A law in Canada has a NO-CALL REGISTRY in effect. You list your name and telemarketers will stop you or be fined thousands of dollars. In this case you have the company's name on display as CCA and their number.  Email government agencies/ministries and you'll be fine. Keep track of type and times of harrassment as you can sue them civilly and they can also be PROSECUTED if this is persistent and causes you harm in your business.  It CAN be done.
Tell them "I advise you I have taken proper action and you will be brought to a court of law if you make another harrasing, unwanted, disruptive and harmful to my health and business call"
End of story.  If they are polite tell them not to call again. It's hard making a living these days, eh?!

you folks know that most of these calls come from a cbusiness or a call center
where most of the crew there dont have a clue what is going on, on during the best of there working days most of those calls are from collections  because someone else has ellegally used a phone number and there is no way to trace the real crooks .

instead of writing off a bad loan and not selling it to leaches to double collect they go ahead and allow the scum to illegally nag a stranger , till that stranger gets the guts to sue them it has happened before and it WILL  happen again .  so go on get your tape recorders going on the phone and use your good sence  ( and dont get bused fight back )

CCA has been calling me for over 1 year looking for someone I don't know, all people who have called my home have been very short with me and no matter what i say they think this person is at my house today the man on he phone told me he would call back everyday at 7:30am and hung up on me. THANKS CCA

I have a business listed in advertisement. It's possible that someone misuses my company name and phone number. For a few times I didn't pick up calls from CCA and the message was like "unresolved business matter for XXX" How would I know? This phone number is indeed open for business, isn't it? Anyway, today I decided to pick up the phone, and told the guy there is only one person in the company, which is me. I hope they won't call me anymore.

a man called at 3:18 pm and asked me if I knew "megan". I said I didn't know anyone, he gave me the last name which was vaguely familiar, but still not anyone I knew. Then he hung up.  Never offered up who he was or why he was looking for this person. Also had a hang up earlier the same day.

Calls, does not listen what I say, uses rough language, does not maintain politeness, claims as if it is a government agency, discusses and abruptly keeps the phone down.  Name of the person spoken was Stephanie.  Already the matter was discussed and resolved with Gus of the same company.

i called the number back at 5.22pm and it rolled to a fax machine/modem after a fair number of rings so obviously i didn't get to speak to anyone nor could i leave a msg for them that they screwed up on their digits when they dialed out.

Started getting the call couple days ago.  Since I usually don't answer the numbers I don't recognize I have no idea who they are.  The numbers showed up on my screen are 416-644-0006/0009/0010.  None of them listed on the yellow page.

Number keeps calling my house at all hours of the day/night.
