I assign a silent ringtone (purchased for 99 cents) to all telemarketers and people I don't want to talk to. They can call all they like and I don't even know about it. :)

I will be regretfully withdrawing my donations from plan canada.  very ruthless marketing. Unaccepatble. Liz  VERY DISAPPOINTED IN THEIR TACTICS,  CALLS ARE EXTREMLY DISRUPTIVE TO OUR FAMILY.  WE  CONTINUED TO DONATE  IN MEMORY OF OUR SON, WHO WANTED TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE FOR DISADVANTAGED CHILDREDN.  I DO HOPE THAT THIS ORGANIZATION REGROUPS.

I have just STOPPED giving them money 2 months ago. Have been giving them money since the 1980.
Have found out that their CEO earns all the money & the children get very little, so I stopped sending.
They send me e-mails now, but I do not & will not respond to them

I contacted Plan Canada(through facebook)and even gave them a link to this page and they did not respond or deny it was them. I then emailed them at  info(@)plancanada.ca, telling them my name and phone  number and that I considered their treatment harassment AND that I would not ever give them money. They responded then to say they would not call me anymore. However after a few days, they started calling from this number again. So I filed a complaint with the BBB whom they are accredited with. I suggest others do the same.

Keeps calling and hanging up on my answering machine. I contacted Plan Canada through their facebook page because I was sure they wouldn't behave this way. Not only did they not write back, I am now receiving even more calls/hang ups. It obviously is Plan Canada and this is how they are. I've never given them money before and I sure won't now.

Also, you do not hear anyone on the other end for a five to ten second time, as the calls are made by computer, and it takes that time span for the computer system to respond to an answered call. The calls come at random times of the day, and when answered, then the computer logs this as the time frame that is good for calling.

to Lisa "Don't be so sure ....". No, it would not be the Plan Canada office. They hire a telemarketing company to do the phone soliciting for them. And it is generally the case that you get calls from a charitable organization or a banking organization that you have done business with. In these cases, it is outside the "do not call" regulations, unfortunately.

Even though charities are exempt from the do not call list, they usually only contact people who have donated before and they are extremely polite because even if you can't give money right now, you might be able to give money later. They would never go out of their way to piss people off.  And this phone # is not the one listed on their website.
Most likely scammers got a hold of info and are using it to try and get peoples money. They never answer on callbacks and they don't care if they piss you off.
One person here mentioned trying to block the number and were not able to do so, if it was really Plan Canada and not some scammers attempting to look like they're calling from this country or that one, you'd be able to block the number easily. IMO.

Most likely the person who said the child had died, was a scam artist who somehow got the info from Plan Canada regarding your previous donations and was pretending to be the charity in order to get your money. If you contact the company directly from the number on their website, they would likely have no idea that someone was harassing you and using their name to do it.  Also, I wouldn't be so sure that every comment on this page was legitimate. Scammers know how to post comments too and spreading lies and confusion is all part of their game.

I do not believe this is Plan Canada. Not only is the number not associated to them on their website but ANYONE can record the Plan Canada phone message(or make it up) and have it play back to anyone who calls their number. These are most likely scammers and this is typical of their behaviour. If this was Plan Canada, they would likely leave a message on your machine, not hang up. They would also answer when you called them back, but not one person here has gotten anything but a recorded message when trying to call the number.
If you are going to ask Plan Canada to remove your number from their call list, be sure to use the number on their website and also explain about the calls you have received and the phone number those calls came from.

I see from comments that this company represents Plan Canada. I formerly contributed, got fed up with it and made it clear I did NOT want any further contact....PERIOD. I'm also on the national 'do-not-call' list but am still being harrased.

What makes this even more offensive is that my MTS 'Call Screen' service will NOT block this number.

We receive calls from them all the time! My mom sponsored a child and stopped making payments due to financial troubles, My mom told them she cannot make payments anymore and yet they still call!!! Another strange thing, a few years back my mom recieced a letter that the mother of the child had died ands just recently we received a letter and a recent picture with the mother in it stating that they are doing fine so plan canada lied to us! Why!? They love to harass people and bother people who have tried to help and can no longer help.. We have our own problems and can't go saving the whole world, there is poverty in our own backyard! Next time I'm gonna give them a piece of my mind and a ear full and tell them to f**k off and that we have no money we have our own damn problems to worry about and I will ask them why they lied to us stating a few years back that the sponsored childs mother died and now all of a sudden she is alive again!? Grr. If they keep bothering you then you can call the fraud center or threaten to have them charged with harassment because you have told them not to call your house again!

I do believe that registered charities are exempt from the do not call list so they are not actually in violation.

It is Plan, I gave last Christmas too.  If you phone their number back you can leave a message to have your number removed.  Worked like a charm, calls have stopped.

Just called me....Again..... No Voicemail..... I donated at X-mas....

I suspect that Plan Canada considers themselves a charity, in which case they are exempt from the no-call registry. So are political groups.

Apparently, charities and political groups are exempt from the no-call registry. Grrrrrr!

It doesn't make a difference if you call them back and complain. I was getting up to three calls everyday. I called and put a complaint in and was told the calls would stop. Now I only get up to two a day! What a joke! I donated money to a child for over a year and stopped because I lost my job.
Companies like this make me want to think twice about helping out a cause as I am going to get harassed afterwards!!!!

I keep receiving calls from this number, nearly every day on my cell.  My home number is on the 'do not call' list.  I have now registered my cell number.  Let's hope this stops these annoying calls.

Recv'd a call from this number...I answered and it was a telemarketer representing "Plan Canada", just looking for donations. I guess I donated to them in the past, but I don't remember.
