Yeah I know somebody who applied for a job there too. He took an intelligence test and scored too high so they wouldn't hire him.

Looks like you scored low enough, though. No surprise actually. You might as well get used to the abuse if you can't get a real job.

This is a fraud campaign currently active in Canada using a series of Iristel VOIP numbers.  The objective is to obtain your credit card number.  If you attempt to "opt out" your number will be confirmed as live and added to a suckers list for repeated future calls.

It is a call center that is outsourced by more then one company, and they don't even ask for your credit card information. Just the spelling of your name, and date of birth.

I get a call from this number about 1 week after I purchase something from the pharmacy (Pharmaplus, Shoppers and Rexall, but only if I purchase directly at the pharmacy part).  It is Optima Communications on behalf of Scotiabank trying to sell me "hospital insurance"  offering to pay me up to $200 a day if I am hospitalized.  The insurance doesn't cover you for anything you have been under a doctors care for for the past 2 years.  Buying from a pharmacy looks like you might be buying meds for an illness.  Perhaps they are ambulance chasers?

They're calling on behalf of company's, they're a 3rd party organization. You just have to ask to be added to their do not call list if they call. That will work with any telemarketer.

Got this call today, and every day for the past week or two.  My husband and I do have a Scotiabank account, but they have never called us for anything, so we don't fit with the pattern others have described.  However, because I work at home, I don't answer calls from numbers I don't recognize.  Similarly, I don't answer blocked calls or calls that come up as "unknown".  This caller has never left a voice mail either, but does call as late as 9 p.m.est.  Aggravating!

Hey Mike...

I understand your frustrations. BELIEVE ME!!! Right now I would rather be doing anything else but bothering people at home....but I have no choice...but thats another story...

When you asked him to be put on the Do Not Call list he was supposed to inform you that it can take up to 31 days to clear your name from all of the systems....did he tell you that? I'm sorry you had a bad experience with the guy...you would think that someone calling you at home during personal time would show a little more compassion then that. If you happen to receive another call just ask to speak to a supervisor and they can take your number off right away.  The thing with that Do Not Call list is if you have an existing relationship with a company they are exempt from it so we are technically not breaking any laws. Also, charities, newspapers and surveys are exempt from the list as well. Trust me, that Do Not Call list is not all it is cracked up to be.  Offshore telemarketers can buy that list for $50 and harass you anytime of the day.  You are better off taking your number off the list and when you do receive calls ask them to put you on the internal Do Not Call or you can even add a service to your home phone (if you are with bell) which blocks telemarketers from calling you.....

Trust me Mike.....I hate telemarketing just as much as you do

It was an autodialer... I heard the delay before the foreign woman started to talk.  I didn't stay on the line long enough to hear who it was though.

When you call it back it says: "if you dialed this number you've been contacted by optima communications international..."   You can actually leave them a message, but I doubt it would do any good.

514906481 and many others. Multiple calls per day. Nobody answering.

DO NOT EVER PICK UP THE PHONE. Everytime you pick up the phone, the phone companies are making money. 4-7 cents a call. Tens of Thousands of calls a day. Millions of calls per month. Millions of dollars earned. YOU GET THE PICTURE. Profits are down dramatically since the arrival of SKYPE and VOIP.

"No answer" calls are dialled by computers. Computers can dial and complete one call every 30 seconds. 24/7. Computer software is cheap. Profits made are huge, driven by people picking up their phones. Only pick up numbers you recognize, or where the name/company shows on the display. If in doubt, leave it to the answering device. If your answering device picks up the call, THERE IS NO CHARGE.

Don't get fooled by "survey" calls, these are not surveys, just lames at the other end who get hired to dial numbers all day long for peanuts. Often you are dealing with immigrants or students, cheap bottom-of-the-barrel labor. These calls are only about increasing the profit margins for the phone companies. Yes, there are credit card scammers and the likes, unfortunately you will have to learn just as much about who's doing what, in order to keep your phone bills down. The cheapest way to do this, is via the answering machine. Private callers will, in most cases, leave a message. However, the latest phone scams (credit card re-balance, loss-of-weight scams) now use voice driven software, that will engage with your answering machine. THIS STILL WON"T COST YOU A DIME. Plus you can recognize easily the computer generated voice, introducing him or herself with a common first name.

Don't pick up the phone. Save yourself the aggravation.

And don't ever be in doubt about banks calling you. All major banks have the same strict safety policy in place. This policy is published on their website. THEY WILL NOT EVER MAKE UNSOLICITED CALLS OR SEND UNSOLICITED EMAILS. PERIOD. Somebody calls you from a "bank" - you know you're dealing with criminals. Pure and simple. The strategy is always the same. Whether it's computerdriven or man-driven. So forget about your bank calling you. It will not ever happen. Unless, of course, you called your branch, and they are rhen returning your call.

My business partner and I filled out an application for a Dun & Bradstreet credit rating and have ever since been plagued with these 416 phone calls!  They say they are calling from Dun & Bradstreet but we keep telling them that were not interested in there promotion and to please stop calling.  It hasn't worked.  Aren't there laws against this type of harrassement?
