Seriously, if you want to stop telemarketers when they call you offer them a decent paying job! There are allot of talented sales people who work in these call centres who were just not given an opportunity anywhere else. There are also people who want to learn but are not given the opportunity because management chooses the person with the most experience over somebody who needs to get a foot in the door. Call centre reps do not like calling you over and over again they are just doing their job, they have to eat too like anyone else.

Why would an individual be able to offer someone a decent paying job?  They're not calling companies, they're calling individuals who have already told them to quit calling.

I work here. Instead of avoiding the calls, just answer and ask them
To take you off their list and they will immediately. No scams - just regular newspaper sales and a convenient job for students.

I'm getting daily and nightly infuriating calls from this Com-Tel telemarketing firm in Stratford, Ontario. It is working for newspapers such as the Globe and Mail. I have tried many times in the past to report it to our national DO-NOT-CALL people. But the latter are nowhere to be seen or contacted. It is impossible to reach them. I presume they are working for telemarketing firms too!!

You may be able to block them and you may be able to get your number taken off their list, even if it is for that one particular client. They will call representing some other client later.
For these slime ball telemarketers, time is money. Therefore, it seems to me, the best way to hit back at them is to waste their time. Just hanging up on them is too quick and doesn't cost them anything.

1) If they ask "How are you today?", tell them. Start from when you got up that morning and fill them in on everything you did that day right up to the moment they intruded on your evening. Be detailed.

2) Agree with everything and then say, "Just a sec, I'll get my credit card." Put the phone down and go back to watching TV.

3) Talk.... slowwwwwwwwly.

4) Say "What?" a lot. Or "I don't understand, can you start over, please?"

Come up with your own imaginative scenarios. Keep them on the line as long as you can. Encourage your friends to do the same. If enough of us adopt this policy, it's going to have an effect on their bottom line.
Telemarketers are not going away. They used to annoy me, now they are there for my amusement.
4)

I have been getting daily call from 416-916-4863.
I called the number back and they gave me the number 1-888-682-0070 to call.
I called it and then I selected 1, then entered my number to have it removed from their calling list.
A message said it would take seven days to have my number removed.

Time will tell.

Telemarketer
This message was left by David in 2009...I followed the instructions to take my telephone # off their list.
This company, Com-Tel Marketing Inc., called me between 3 and 5 times every day; they would never leave a message.  I discovered that they specialize in selling newspaper subscriptions.  Since I recently canceled my Globe and Mail subscription, I assume they are trying to get me to return.
I sent them a blunt email, telling them to stop; they stopped.

When you get an unwanted call like this, just say, "oops. Someone is at my door." Then put the phone in a drawer or other location where it can't be heard and just wait for them to hang up.

The result is this wastes a lot of their time - usually at least ten minutes and it can waste up to 30 minutes of their time.

If they should ever call back and act angry about this, just apologize sincerely and say you are sorry but you just forgot they were on hold.

To heck with them. They don't care about intruding on you. Why should you care about them.

I have received several calls from this company for the last week.  They call at least once a day, every days.  Half of the calls the system hangs up as I say "hello" and the other half where I get an operator I asked to be removed and they hang out on me before I'm finished.  It's a telemarketing trick where they use the "the phone line cut them off and I didn't heard their request".  It's rude and not legal.

I have contacted Bell Canada with a formal complaint that they are using fake phone numbers to hide their identity.  I have also contacted the company via email and requested that they remove my phone number immediately and if I hear from them again I will be in touch with the "do not call" registry, my laywer and will be filing for a harassment suit.

They are legally doing business if they refuse to remove you from their list.  If you are a part of the do not call registry and you have asked them to remove you, then they are required by law to take you off their list and never call again.  If they do not follow your request you have the right to file a harassment lawsuit.

Don't let these low-life make your life hell.  When we are at home no one should be allowed to cold call.  I can't believe the government won't put a stop to it completely.  The only business calls that anyone should receive at home are personal direct issues involving your banking, insurance or medical.

This is the third time in three days that we have had this caller.  The first was to our Smart-Ring Fax machine, the second to our residential phone and just now to my cellular phone.  The number can not be dialed back, nor is there anyone there when we pick up.  All three phone numbers were put on the "Do Not Call" the very first day, are unlisted in the phone book and through the operator and we don't give out the cell and residential numbers except for medical, family and school.  The fax machine is for my daughter's cyber school and has not been used for anything else.  As this rash of calls occur every couple of months, I can only assume that the telemarketer has again purchased the DNC list and is rapidly making their way through.
It seems pointless for the government to 'advertise' how wonderful our lives will be without all these callers when they turn around and sell them the bloody list for $50!!!  Talk about giving the proverbial 'keys to the city' to thieves.
