These people keep call my number and asking for someone that does not even live here. I told them they have the wrong number and they said they will continue to call because this is the number the person provided when applying for what ever credit they received.
I said I would report them, they didn't care and still continue to call 2 to 3 times per day.

First and foremost, do not promise them anything as it resets the 2 year clock they have to actually take legal action if they want. 2nd, call them back, ask for thier address, then send a letter outlining to correspond in written form only, and to provide a statement of account.  Once they have the letter, they MUST legally contact you in writing.  So no more phone calls....HOWEVER, you do have to reply...you cant just shred their letters and say you didnt get them or they can start calling again.  If you make arrangements, make ones that you can keep.....a lot of times, they will compromise...especially if you actually know the laws, and YOUR rights as the consumer.

I seriously have no idea, what the heck do they want! Rude are they, nawww!! They couldn't be!! they are a classy organization??? Ya okay!!!! right!!
Here's an Idea, technically they owe me for my phone usage calling them back! how about that, tried asking them for a updated document, forget it!! they responded "NO we have already sent it to you", and then accused me of giving them run around. Without the proper information/documentation and how they arrived at an outstanding debt I have no recourse to go to my bank, do I just walk into my bank and say I have to pay these people according to them, Which however I did my best (try getting to your bank in a wheelchair in the snow many times) so I do however have records of payment to this organization(s) ??? that's questionable because which one? they keep sending me statements (ie"threat letters) and harrasing another phone line whose party (elderly) has nothing to do with it. And to bout they threaten them as well!!

I got a message today from that number. It was eerie. The guy actually said he was from a bank (happened to be the same bank I deal with but I don't have unpaid debt!) and he said who he was looking for a males name (I am female but the last names start with the same letter)  and he stated the address of the person he was looking for - which happens to be exactly 5 houses down from me -  same Street and Ave.  Weird or what? They sure don't stop at anything to find someone! I think if they call again I'm going to ask where they got my number from because I think they have a way to just randomly put details together and then call numbers based on things that match. Like similar addresses and banks. Anyone know if they can do that? I've had my phone number for over 15 years and lived at my current address 9 years so it might have been a wrong number but quite the coincidence.

Got 2 voice messages on my phone which I only used for my fax machine.
I called back and asked what was it all about as I don't have any debt.
The lady asked if I was xxxxx which was similar to my name but not exactly.
I told her no and she said she will delete my number.
I guess when these collecting agents cannot find the target, they will just look up the phone book for similar names.

CollectCON bill collectors...  just a pile of BS from bottom feeders.  Dumbest thing is to ever answer their phone calls.  They have a robo-caller that simply plows through all the numbers in its database AND hope that someone is stupid enough to answer the call.   If you answer the call... they will bombard you with calls into infinity.  By answering the phone you have proven that there is a human on your end of the phone line that they can annoy.  By ignoring all their calls ( including their 'Anonymous' with no phone number showing ) their robo-caller moves your number to the end of its return call list.

Best trick for dealing with scumbags using a robo-caller is to locate an MP3 sound file of a disconnected phone ( as used by the carriers when a phone number is no longer in use )  the message always starts with a blast of a few tones and then a recorded message that says the number is no longer in service.   The burst of specific tones at the start of the message are recognized instantly by robo-caller as being a disconnected phone line that is no longer in service.  The second the robo-caller hears those specific tones it will automatically terminate any future phone calls to your number as it will have recorded in its database that the number is no longer in service.  Grab a copy of the 'no longer in service' mp3 and save it to your computer or mini-recorder or mp3 player and have it ready to play for the robo-caller.

http://consumerprotectionbc.ca/consumers-debt ... debt-collection

you can follow this link and print the form for mail contact only. Or you can just write a letter to the creditors. It seems to take a week or so but after that, by law they cannot contact you by phone again. The exception is when one credit agency sells your debt to another,. Then you will have to submit a letter to the new company.
this is BC law but it is pretty much standard across the country.

I have always paid my bills, my company was defrauded and ended up in this crippling lawsuit, in one day I got 35 calls from various collection companies, I was on antacid pills, stressed out, I just wanted to crawl under a rock, they were going to take everything, jail me you name it, FACT if the creditor after the debt is known fails to take you to court within 2 years, there out of luck, they cant do anything except call, and once you notified them your disputing the claim they cant call you again. If you are served a power of sale notice and they don't take the house back within two year...yep they cant sue for the shortfall and cant sue the guarantor, and there is case law that if they don't take possession and sell after a couple of years you can apply to the courts for a discharge, this is all about being informed, don't take there crap, and the biggest mistake don't pay even a penny if you cant, it restarts the two year limit. These creditors I have had the opportunity to refinance me and chose to push me down, now there getting nothing, hey your credit will suck for 6 years but its all ready bad at this point so you can only go up from here, my rating fell below bankruptcy status, and they threaten to damage my credit...lolo

I tried to do that. At first they called a person with a similar name, they laughed at me when I called back to say I wasn't the one they were looking for. I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, Collect Scums basically said sorry, but my name is similar to the person they're looking for, not their fault (???) and said they won't call again. They called again, and when I called back telling her what she was doing, Jasmine made a few racist remarks about me having a Latin accent and hung up on me. Filed a new complaint, but... Is this going anywhere? I don't think so. I'm unlisting my home phone number and start recording every call I get on that line. I just wrote to TD bank on their "feedback form" and told them off. I can't believe Canada allows this. For the record, I haven't had a single transaction with the TD Bank, not even cashing a check. I think they got my last name from the white pages and assumed I was the person they were looking for. Also, it's so sad to hear racist epithets coming from anyone and specially on behalf of a a company like TD. This is not Canada as far as I'm concerned. Nevertheless, I will never stop loving this country as my own.

1. The concepts outlined in these documents will also work for most Court Orders to pay. Simply change the wording such that you are requesting confirmation that the court will accept payment in consideration of their delivery to you of the Original Order, as duly executed by ___(Judge name)___ and in its original form (which is the original instrument of indebtedness).
2. This process will not work with private lenders because in most cases they can and will
produce the original instrument of indebtedness.
3. If you receive any communication from a collection agency or lawyer representing the financial institution, you should follow the concepts outlined in the above letters but ONLY in direct correspondence with the financial institution.
NEVER respond to a lawyer or collection agency with anything other than the concept outlined in Letter 4 (or 5) that follows.
