this is not meant to defend telemarketers. but more to just inform the public. the national do not call has a few exceptions. and the main ones are newspapers, market research, and charities. you can find out more by looking us up inline. its great to know what can and cannot call you

Why am I still getting these nuisance calls when I registed on the
nation DO NOT CALL LIST??
Pete 2011-06-06 20:49:02 Unknown
Keep getting the fax machine ringing with the number 416-924-0280 but the fax will not come through. This happens once or twice a day. Now that I know who it is, from reading these posts, I'm glad the fax doesn't accept it.

USED TO WORK FOR COM-TEL, THE CALLS ARE DIALED BY A COMPUTER SYSTEM, SOMETIMES IT DOSEN'T ALWAYS FUNCTION THE WAY ITS SUPPOSED TO, SO IT HANGS UP OR THERE MIGHT EVEN BE A PROBLEM WITH THE OPERATOR HEADSET. THE ONLY WAY TO HAVE THEM STOP CALLING YOU IS TO CALL THE 416-924-4410 NUMBER AND ASKED TO BE PUT ON THEIR DO NOT CALL LIST. YOU HAVE TO DO THIS, BECAUSE ONCE YOUR NUMBER IS IN THE DATABASE, IT WOULD KEEP DIALING UNTIL AN OPERATOR ACTUALLY TERMINATES IT TO STOP REDIALING. NOW THAT ONLY STOPS IT UNTIL THE DATABASE IS REGENERATED. SO TO REMOVE IT PERMANENTLY CALL THE NUMBER AND PUT YOURSELF ON THE DNC LIST.

This caller dials my number 3-4 times a day. Any sensible person would realize that I am not answering my phone and stop calling. How do I get rid of these nuisance calls?
oscar 2011-06-06 20:49:02 Unknown
I googled the company responsible for these annoying calls and what I came up with is this: Com-Tel Promotions, 719 Yonge Street, Ste. 200, Toronto, ON M4Y 2B5; phone(416) 924-4410. Some would say appropriate payback at this telemarketer would be by all of us calling that number from pay phones across the GTA and when the receptionist answers, leave the phone off the hook and walk away. Of course, more mature action would be to inform Com-Tel that we demand our phone numbers be removed from their 'hit' lists. But, really folks, how much fun is that?
LULU 2011-06-06 20:49:02 Unknown
This number calls every day 2 to 5 times a day. I just answer & leave off the hook. It is annoying when your busy and then no one there. These should be stopped!!!!!!!! I pay for a phone to be bothered by people who have nothing better to do or can not get a job worth while.

getting calls from this number...have never subscribed to the Globe and Mail. Usually dead air, sometimes a person. Not answering these calls just means they keep calling back, again and again.
I have a new strategy to handle these nuisance type calls, that seems to be reducing the volume. My new goal is to WASTE THEIR TIME AND SCREW UP THEIR STATISTICS. All of these call centres run on metrics -volume, duration, etc... it is how they get paid! More calls per hour, the more $$$$ of them.
So, lets slow them down- confuse them - have them put your phone number on their "problem number" list to not call.
It is very easy... when the phone rings and I see one of these ph numbers on the call display, I pickup the phone and put it down on the whatever is nearby- counter, desk, cushion - then walk away! Let the telemarketers have dead air. In a few minutes, I hear the 'phone off the hook' noise and I hangup the phone.
Alternatively, if I get caught by an unknown telemarketer phone number, I will have a very short 5 sec chat-very nice to them- them ask them to hold on for a moment-be right back- and then put the phone down and walk away.

This caller starts just after 8 am MDT and several times a day. The latest I have had this number call me has been close to 11 pm MDT. This calling started a month ago and will not stop.

I received a call from this number, but no one on the line - I returned their call and was charged 1 minute for that, but no answer
Richard Philibert 2011-06-06 20:49:02 Unknown
I just received a call from this number, this is a telemarketing real nuisance and in my opinion they should be outlawed.
Paul M. 2011-06-06 20:49:02 Unknown
These dead calls are a great nuissance and in my opinion they should be outlawed. Nobody comes on so I suspect it must be some telemarketing outfit that does automatic dialing.
scott 2011-06-06 20:49:02 Unknown
just got the same thing. i've had the same # before....starting to piss me off!

Garry 2011-06-06 20:49:02 Unknown
416-924-0280 Comtel Promotions (telemarketers/Globe and Mail subscriptions)
This is the company the number belongs to.
Marg 2011-06-06 20:49:02 Unknown
It's a telemarketing arm of the Globe and Mail.
If your number is unlisted (as ours is) then they got your phone number from your Globe and Mail subscription.
To stop the calls you need to contact the Globe and Mail.

Dorothy 2011-06-06 20:49:02 Unknown
I just received a call from this number, while I was on another call. Of course when I tried to call back there was no one there. So I dialed directly and got the recording that it was from ComTel Promotions (as someone has already mentioned.)
Another topic: If you receive a free travel offer from Universal Action Travel
Inc I would suggest that you delete the e-mail or hang up the phone. I could have saved myself $5oo if I had done that.
mm 2011-06-06 20:49:02 Unknown
Same phone # called about 3x just got dead air.
Christie 2011-06-06 20:49:02 Unknown
These calls keep calling and no one at the other end, always the same number more so the same time of day. Starting to get worried that it might be fraud, any suggestions!!!
aj 2011-06-06 20:49:02 Unknown
Same phone #. I answered the phone, but said nothing. Was waiting for a recording machine but a person was there.
At least they spent money to call - and I wouldn't answer !
