I keep getting calls every 2 days.  When they first called, I explained I just came out of major knee surgery, and couldn't talk.  The called then pushed me to spend a few minutes which I explained due to doctors orders, I could not.  A few minutes ago, 2 days later, they called again.  I have been out of the University for over 30 years and only until recent, began receiving calls.  The University was SMS when I left, and quite frankly, I'm not interested in donating.  I have 2 children in College in California now that I need to support.  I have explained this to the caller before, but they do not take me off the list.

This is pure harassment!

You & me both.  That is exactly what I told them.  I was polite because it appeared to be students calling, but seriously at the rate of their tuition & the number of loans my son had to take... I will donate to him first!

They don't call Friday/Saturday

Called me on Sunday evening. Didn't leave a message though.

It's MO State.  They called last night wanting a donation of $250 to support the library.  They just called again, but I didn't answer.  My son has $13k out in student loans and its his first year.  If I have $250 its going to his loans!

I didn't even go to Missouri State, so why are they calling me?

Seriously I know you're from MSU but stop calling us!! It's annoying we get like 4 calls a day and we said don't call. They just called for something and it was all broken up and I couldn't hear anything and then they kept asking what I attended at Missouri State. I didn't even go there!! STOP CALLING PEOPLE

I graduated in 1982.  They didn't call me for over 25 years, and now they will not stop calling.

Don't they get their fund raising from the skyrocketing taxes and the outrageous tuition?  They can take a hike.

I'm proud to have graduated from the former SMSU, but I'd like to know how my cell # was obtained in the first place because I certainly did not provide it and live in another state now...

This is a fund raising call from Missouri State University.  Once you give once, they are relentless on their calling.  They call any day Mon-Sun.

I have gotten 7 calls from this number in 3 days.  The ringing stops after one or two rings--no one answers if I try to pick up.  I would like these calls to stop.

They called me as well, I am unsure what 'department/ office' called me though because they left no message.

I received a call from this number and I am an MSU grad the following is what I have learned over the years since graduating and through life in general: 1) We live in an ever increasing rude society as evidenced through the majority of the above hateful diatribes. 2) The older people get, the more they act like spoiled little children. Summation? Try something novel like.....ohhh.....I dunno a little COURTESY to the person who is calling and if you are not interested in donating at this time a polite "no thank you" I'm sure will be more than sufficient. Finally, stop flying off the handle over something so inconsequential as an innocent pledge call YOU WHINY A** CRY BABIES!!!

417-836-5999 will display on Caller ID  when a call is placed, intentional or in error, from any Missouri State University phone; those calls include the Springfield, West Plains, and Mt. Grove campuses. If you have recently spoken with or left a message for anyone within the MSU system, someone from that office may be trying to reach you. You may call 417-836-5000 and ask to speak with that person or to someone in that department.

If neither you nor any family member has ever been associated with the university, your number may have been dialed by mistake or with intent to reach a previous owner of that number. On the other hand, when you (student/family member, faculty, staff, previous donor, etc.) have been associated with the university, the call may have been computer-generated via the telephone campaign and a student employee is seeking donations. In that case, dial 417-836-8568 and ask if someone has been trying to contact you. If they have, politely, inform them that you are/are not interested. If they have not, refer to the beginning of this post.

Most often, when you hear nothing but spaced beeps on the line, someone has inadvertently dialed your number as a fax number (dialing error or incorrect documentation). As annoying as those calls are, generally, they will cease after a few tries.

Perhaps, with a little more peace of mind, you can carry on and worry about bigger problems!

I tried that.  Even asked that they remove my number.  Now I just have the number blocked on my cell.

Who ever it is calls at the most inappropriate times and there is no one on the other end when you answer. So telling this individual is not even an option.

Thank you for your thoughtful response. It is pretty customary for alum to be contacted by current students. You never know if you don't ask, right?

I just got 6 calls in rapid succession from this number, so I decided to look it up. There are lots of comments saying that they were asking for money, but when I answered (on my cell phone,) there were just a series of beeps (they resembled answering machine beeps) and nothing else. I answered the first two times, and the following four times I didn't answer. I had four voice mails after this, and it was over the course of about five minutes. I then blocked the number. I wouldn't have so much of a problem if it were actually people asking for money or a wrong number from a dorm or even a drunk student. But it's not. It is just a bunch of beeps.

This number will show up for any calls made from Missouri State University - not just fund raising. It could be a student calling from a dorm, band boosters, the student health center, or a dean calling about a student. This number showed on the caller ID when my child received the call offering her a full scholarship. If you are connected to the university in any way (alumni, parent of student, friend or relative attends, etc), it pays to pick up. If the call is for fund raising, it is a student doing their job and it's a computer doing the dialing. If the call was made in error, let them know and your number will be removed permanently. If you are tied to the university in some way but do not wish to contribute, let them know and your number will be removed for one year. Is it really too much trouble for you to answer ONE call a year and politely decline? Get a grip.

I think some of you are making a big deal out of this. It isn't the end of the world if you get a call from this number. I just did, and I'm perfectly fine?? All you have to do is ask them to take your name off the list. You need to get your attitutudes and perceptions in check.

I wish I had the personal phone numbers of the people who started this telemarketing campaign.  I'd call them every day, sevearl times a day...and give them a piece of my mind on the priorities of MSU and why I will not EVER be donating money there.  There are a lot of ways they could cut costs and improve education without annoying the hell out of people.  

I do not answer unknown numbers because they are almost always telemarketers.  If it's anybody I need to talk to, they can leave a message.  Finally decided to look this number up after umpteen calls.  Glad other people posted here.  Confirms my suspicions and determination to continue giving money to many non-profit charities who NEVER bother me with phone calls.
