Does the pick up hang up method word when it is in your own area code?

No number usually starts with "0". This number calls me everyday and I live in this area code.

This number began calling my cell phone a couple of days ago. Caller ID shows it as a TN Cell phone. I am in Chattanooga. It never leaves a message. If I do a callback, it says that is a non-working number. None of this seems kosher to me.

Called at 9:30 pm waking me up. I didn't answer the call since I didn't know the number. They didn't leave a message either.

There should be a law against this.

Got one too. I have adopted a "zero tolerance" policy with any calls that have "not provided", "unknown", "unknown caller", "Anonymous", "Name Withheld", or any variation of the above. I used to allow my answering machine to deal with them, but they seldom leave a message, or sometimes use a noise generator to try to fill up the machine. Now, I simply look at the caller ID, and if it says any of the above, I pick-up long enough to complete the call (1 sec.) and then promptly hang-up. They get charged for a completed call, and I don't have to listen to the phone ring. Then I come here and look-up the number. I am amazed at the amount crap I have avoided with this method. This method works, there is nothing they can do about it, and it is imensely satisfying to run up their bill. Repeat as often as necessary. :-) Note: I have noticed lately that I am getting a lot of out-of-area-code calls from (purportedly) cell phones. These come up as "New york Call", Etc. I'm still letting the answering machine handle these. I never get a message, and still look them up here. It's the usuall suspects, still trying to hide their identity. Do this for any suspicious call you do not recognise. Keep a list, and use the pick-up - hang-up on them too!!! :-)

They seem to appeal to the elderly who might fall, I don't listen long enough to know, or care what their pitch is. I usually "call forward" my home phone and they catch me when I answer my cell phone. I hope you expose them soon. Thanks

We receive a call about every day from this number, and we do not answer. They never leave a message. We wish they would stop calling since they do not pay this phone bill for us.

Getting this call once a week. This followed calls in previous days from the 0000000000 number and the "unknown caller" numbers. I think it's just a spoofed number to make it look local so you'll answer.
I won't answer my phone unless I know you. If you haven't figured it out already, if you answer, you only tell these people your number works and then they can sell it off.
For me, if you can't leave a message, you're not worth a return call.

Have received a couple of calls each week from this number, but there is nobody on the other end of the line when I answer and calling the number back results in a Verizon message that "the number cannot be completed as dialed!" What?

Also getting calls from this number. Hang up as soon as you answer.
