Debt Collector
I just called and closed my account.  I have a $0 balance on the card.  They are rip off artists!  When I made the original purchase they told me I would have 6 months free financing, so I figured I would just pay the minimum until the balance was due.  Month 1, I paid the minimum.  Month 2, there was interest charged on my account.  I called Home Depot and they said there wasn't anything they could do, that I had to go back to the store where I made the purchse (over an hour drive) and have them do a credit, then ring it up again - this time selecting the 6 months free financing.  I would have taken more gas money to get to the store than the interest.  I paid off the account that day.  I also tried calling the store, but after being put on hold for more than 20 minutes I gave up.  I hope they are happy, for $7.31, they lost a customer.  I feel for the person who isn't in a position to pay off the balance and has to deal with the additional fees.  Terrible customer service.

Debt Collector
Received a call at 8:20 a.m. asking for a Vivian Mayo. I told the man there is no Vivian at this number and he wanted to know if I could get hold of her. I started getting irritated as we have been getting calls for a Vivian for over 2 years now and do not know this person. We have had this phone number for over 20 years and it's one bill collector after another for Vivian Mayo.  My husband is going through treatments for stage IV lung cancer and I have no patience with these callers but they won't stop calling and this last jerk started telling me how bad I was because I was raising my voice to him. Well if these jack a***s would stop calling I wouldn't be so irate.

I wonder what the big secret is ?  Why they won't leave a message ?  Why they block who is calling ?  This home does not accept telemarketing calls

sur they are. calling 10-12 times A DAY 7 days a week, and I do not nor have I had any Citi cards, or cards they service.
They do not honor do not call, they do not honor WRITTEN clarification, and as far as "polite/nice bunch..." well perhaps in between the profanity, name-calling, and rude/demeaning statements, and this is to someone who does not have accounts with Citi.
BTW  It is flat illegal to cause someone to incur a charge for contact by phone, which happens if you call this number.

when you and your &@#!@#*($% bank start showing some intelligence and compassion, perhaps more people will pay their bills.
29, 39, 49 % interest does not make for anything but fat bank pockets, and slaves of a society that all but requires people to have credit.

I don't understand why they started calling on 10/25.  On 10/19, I realized I wouldn't be able to pay the minimum payment of $97, but I arranged to pay it on 10/26 (my payday).  I, in fact, cancelled the arranged payment, and then paid it immediately.  Yet, they still called me both 10/25 and 10/26.  If I arranged to make payment, even late, and then made sure it was paid, why would you still call me?

Told these guys they had the wrong number. I have a simple way I live my life, yes mess with my family, I will mess with you. Home Depot was turned in for EPA violations behind one of thier stores shortly after my family started recieving these harassing calls. They had a broken bad of fertilizer out in the rain. They keep calling, I will keep turning them in for somthing.

Who said anything about defaulting on a credit card. I do not have one of thier credit cards, yet they harass my family. I am hitting Home Depot with every EPA violation I can find to give to them what one of thier vendors dishes out. Home Depot needs to understand, they can bully, but its our job to make that very painful for them.

I don't HAVE any debt and this number keeps calling.  I just disconnect it as soon as I see the number display, which is my cell phone.

which is another reason I know this is SPAM because my cell number is NOT listed on any of my accounts.

The other posts are correct about the Home Depot & Citibank connections. My caller ID read "Associates com...[?]". I called the number back because when I asked who was calling, no one answered and then it hung up. I really appreciate the sharing about this #. I told the guy who answered never to call me again. But he didn't have Caller ID and I refused to give mine. I've been getting harrassing calls from another number, in Kentucky, related to this, 4-5 times a day including Sundays & holidays. I told that number to stop and they won't. They'll never reach me. Life is too hard for me in critical ways; I'm making my best efforts but it's not working so far. Meanwhile, I won't tolerate the harrassment. The debt collectors should redirect their efforts toward finding good jobs for unemployed Americans who have more integrity than income.

I will be reporting them to my state attorney general for the Do Not Call list.

some of you people are just really dumb.... like this one im responding too... first of all the "Do not call" regestry does not apply too debt collectors nor does it apply to any company with which you had established a previous business relationship with (this includes inquiries but thats another subject all together)

in other words the do not call registry only stops "Cold Callers." or, telemarketers that are calling random numbers that have not shown interest in whatever product or service they are offering and have not shown interest in the bussiness.

secondly, debt collectors are third party, meaning that calling home depot is useless because your "debt" has been sold to the collectors, meaning you now owe THEM, not home depot.  And yes you still owe money regardless of when the card expires, debt does not expire. Home depot may very well have added you to THEIR OWN do not call list, meaning they wont call you from the store, obviously thats not the problem your having.

so yeah, report them as much as you want, untill you've paid that debt you will keep getting calls.

their is the "Fair debt collections practices act" law that requires collection agencies stop calling you upon recieving a certified WRITTEN letter via mail (just telling them to stop calling over the phone does nothing). however whenever this happens most agencies have an agreement with the original creditor to return such requests, in which case the FDCPA does no longer apply..

in other words:

If you had a credit account with home depot and home depot calls you and you ask them to stop: they dont have too, they have every legal right to call you

if home depot sold your debt to a collection agency (in this case citi financial) and you ask them to stop calling:  The account is concidered hostile and returned to home depot, in which case you will now be getting calls from home depot, who very well may sell the debt to a NEW collector who can then begin calling you...

usually if it actually goes as far as to be returned to home depot: they will then take you to court.

pay your debt...

The Citi folks just go from number to number with their crank calls.  I don't have ANY......repeat....ANY....accounts serviced by Citi.  I'll just send their accumulating numbers into my phone's garbage file that recognizes these numbers and keeps my phone quiet.  It's a good rule of thumb that if you don't recognize any number, that you don't answer it.  Too many robo-callers logging reports of folks who simply answer their phones.  I'm not going to do it.  Just not going to do it.  Not now.  Not ever.

I just returned a call to this number.  I do not have a Home Depot account but I do have another account with Citi.  They apologized and said that some of their lines get crossed which is why I was getting the calls from the Home Depot side rather then than the company from which I have a card.

As many have said they were extremely nice and helpful.

They keep calling.  Their calls keep going into my phone's 'garbage' files and notifies my phone with a silent ringtone.  It's somewhat annoying to keep dumping the garbage files at the end of the day and see the same old attempts by the same jokers to get me to answer.  Ha ha ha.  Never in a gazillion years.  But, if I should ever get a chance to sue the bastards for harassment, I wouldn't hesitate for a second to ask for a sizable monetary sum as punitive damages.

Clarification is needed. There are no absolutes regarding how a collection agency may respond to a written cease-comm. For sure it must obey. From there it could stand and litigate, sell the account, or stupidly violate the cease-comm. It will not automatically be returned to whatever entity made the assignment.

I've been seeing many complaints pointing back to Citi Group, which services more than one retailer. In other words, Citi is an original creditor managing card accounts on behalf of some businesses, such as the current arrangement with Sears. Possibly it's the same with Home Depot. This indeed makes Citi exempt from FDCPA, but a few states have their own collections practice laws which apply to original creditors. California's Rosenthal Act is a standout, pretty much a clone of FDCPA holding OC's to the same standards as third parties.

At any stage a debt claim may be challenged, and should be when a third party collector works the account. Depending on all the above factors, an alleged debtor can do anything from a validation request to a lawsuit for bad practices. There are always options, not just "pay youse bills". Learn how to exercise your rights at FTC-dot gov.

LATE is LATE. Did it say in your contract: "pay on time, oh, of course unless you are waiting for your husband to pay it. And of course we will magically know this somehow."
