It is illegal, but the technology allows them to run rampant cause they can't be traced--they can "spoof" the caller ID in most cases (that's like writing a phony return address on an envelope) so they can't be traced.

These calls are not the NSA or any other "gubbamint" entity.  They are scammers who are either trying to get personal information with people who are too gullible or old and senile to resist, or it is from people who are auto-dialing random numbers to find out who answers their phone so they can sell the "valid" phone numbers to the scammers I referred to first.

Either way, it's a vicious racket and we have little option except to use whatever meager number blocking options we have available from our phone service providers.

These are NOT legitimate business who conform to the DNC list.  If they are calling you, they are scammers, not legitimate,.   The best defense seem to be to not answer, that way they don't have any reason to sell your number to a bunch of other scammers who will keep calling.

Called our home a little before 4 on Friday. We did not answer and they did not leave a message. We are on state and federal do not call lists.

I received a call from this number and when I answered, I was told there was a home invasion in the block where I live. I live in a gated community with security on call 24/7, so why did I get this call??????? It seems that if you get a call from this number and you hit any number on your phone, the people on the other end can than make international and national calls on your dime.

Call came in @ 1122 exaactly 11 min after another scam call. Different numbers, but eaither wan a PITA.
Didn't answer, and yep" it started out with "This is not a sales call" what a load of bull! CID Said "Security"

Got a call while I was out but left no message.  Caller ID said Security.  Call was from California. I live in Oregon.  Sounds suspicious to me.  I am on the Do Not Call List.  Wish this kind of stuff would go away.

just got a call from this number , my phone rang 3x and by time i went to it ; stopped ringing. i *69 and called back and i heard a recording that said" please press any digit  to be added to the do not call list" well i didnt press any digit.. thought "what if i do" and that causes them to hack my phone?? and just hung up.

After receiving a few calls on the answering machine I actually answered.  Was told to hit #1 to speak to a rep or #2 to be removed from their call list.  I hit #1, rep answered and said; "To whom and I speaking...so you're interested in security system..."  I said, No, I've previously choose option #2 requesting that I be removed from your call list, but that didn't work so I thought I'd try a live person."  MFer hung up on me immediately, I didn't even get a chance to blair loud music in his ear, next call...option #1, when they answer...some Metallica or Disturbed at the volume level I usually play so I can hear it when I'm outside...lol  I also called the number back, it automatically goes to a recording that only mentions hitting any number key to be removed from call list.  It should be illegal to call from a number that is set up not to receive any incoming return calls or sends them to a dead end pre-recorded message.

Received call from the #424-235-3966 ID stated "SECURITY"  No message left.   I do not respond to unknown numbers.

I got this call from security as they called themselves at 424-235-3966.  This call came as I was talking to my medical provider.  Suddenly a high piercing sound came over my phone, and I could not hear anything the lady said.  I could not callback on my phone as my dialtone was compromised by this piercing sound.  It has been there for two days now and I am besides myself trying to get out on my telephone.  The Internet says is some kind of the scam.  But how can they lock up my phone with a sound I cannot get rid of, and basically leave me without a telephone in my house.  Nobody can seem to tell me how to get rid of the #$#^*&%#@*(&&^% thing.  AT&T says they will fix it by Thursdahowever, I have two or three appointments before then.

Don't call again...I can spend 35$ in Missouri and file numerous infractions and probably sue you. This is a no call state for solicitors, and harassing phone calls...........

They called a few minutes ago.  When I saw "Security" on the CID, I immediately knew it was a solicitation for a home security alarm system, so I didn't bother to pick up.

We got a call too from these NUTS 4:42pm Mon 7/15/13 in exact same way as yours. Just what this 80 yr old needs when husband of same age is laying in hosp. in head Trauma unit after having emergency surgery "in-the-nick" of time on Sun 14th at 9pm to release old & new bleeding in the brain from what they don't know. But did take tumble off bicycle trying to get BAD arthritic hip over seat to get off, while riding with 10 yr old granddaughter as was normal outing for him. Being an avid outdoorsman entire life & still was VERY active.

Sure wish they'd come up w/something to STOP these calls!!!

Caller id said Security - - - didn't answer, no message left.   Over the years, I've got calls described by other for security systems.  I block the number, but they just call using another number.  DNC call lists don't work for scammers and the feds won't even try to address it.  I'll block this number too.

If what they say is true about the sign, than next time they call I will ask them to send me the free sign, and then I'll have to "think about it" on the system. With the sign I'll have the contact info to give to the Do Not Call registry. (I know, I know,.. but I hate these calls)

Same story as the other reports, some pre-recorded message about crime rates in my area, yet we live in a very rural part of the country miles from most neighbors, total scam that keeps trying to get us to let them put a sign in our yard,calls coming every week when our number is already on the do not call list, and they change the phone number and fake out name every time the calls come,  hope someone finally puts an end to this crap!

These guys call a couple of times a week. I just tell them to f@#k off and stay on the line to use their time instead of mine. A$$HOLES cannot even speak correct English. Go back to where you came from you stinking scammers.
