We're getting calls from an Indian-sounding guy saying he works at CareCredit and they are suing us for $5,000 for a $500 loan, which we applied for online and are not paying on. Of couse we didn't apply for a loan. Sooner or later they'll get caught. I hope.

Now they are calling and saying they are with Ebay. I CANNOT understand them. I got a woman the first two times. Then when the man called he called from a 801-828-2353 and same issue. Said he was with Ebay. I told him I could not understand him. Next time, I am going to speak spanish only and see if he calls me back. So frigging aggravating. UGH!

I've been getting the same pestering calls.  However, any time I tell them I want a supervisor...they hang up.  The number that comes up is different; IP Communications 801-828-2353 Just thought I'd pass this along for you guys. To me I think SCAM right of the bat, simply because I've never used E-bay a day in my life!

Received a 2nd call within a half hour re: a membership for e-bay. This heavy accented man stated he was from e-bay. I told him I contacted e-bay and that they are not running any kind of promotion, he insisted that they were. he was firmly stressing that he was from e-bay. I told him that I googled this number and found many complaints and told he was a scam  and to not call me ever again, or else I was going to report it.  After many objections from him he hung up.   watch out for this number and don't do anything with their  requests. BEWARE.

Guy, heavy middle eastern accent, said I was approved for a gov't grant left message with spouse. 45 minutes later called back. I asked how could I have been approved if I hadn't purchased the CD on line for $2.50 and argued w/ me that the cost is only $1.87. I was laughing myself silly when he told me that b/c I spoke abusively to him, I wasn't getting the money. I said laughing Really you have the power the decide who gets and how much, amazing since your not even an american. to which I hung up. The guy calls back 6 (that's right 6) times which during I said laughing the entire time, you must be bored to be so entertained by a while american women; am I the only one who talks to you this way, is this what you enjoy; you don't even live in the U.S. He replied that we american people don't even know what is going on in our own backyard, so thereafter  I called him Mr. Terrorist. For a short time it was quite, of course I had researched and found all this information. The phone rings from #724-352-0103, another middle eastern accent man, who again is from the grant division. His name was Grant and he couldn't pronounce me name. Before he could say anything further I asked if had gotten my # from his buddy whose caller id says Ca, but is really Nigeria, Africa, and when they charge for $1.87 they really charge $187.00. He acknowledge he did. I said are you that bored or do you just like being called Mr. Terrorist too. All he could say is okay, and I hung up.  With 5 minutes the first man called again, his name, (so he says & yes I told him I knew is was fake) is Roger Williams & he's in Miami, (an obvious attempt to scare me, ha - yeah right) So I told him having his friends call me was not going to be good for him, since I knew about the fake phone numbers and the $187.00 charges, and he was needed to a whole lot better than that and he hung up.  So far no more contact. Apparently,  I really got under his skin. It was also somewhat entertaining to myself and spouse, we had a great laugh.

This number has called many times, i have done a little digging and found the company that hosts the number. Here is the information found. I asked the caller what company he worked for, I was told Government Grants NFCU. I am going about contacting the company that hosts the land line number and reporting the number. I doubt this will go far but its worth a shot. If anything i say call and harass the CEO.

Keep getting calls from these folks - sometimes a man, sometimes a woman, always with a thick accent.  They claim to represent our United States Government, that I (they had my name) applied for a grant.  Finally, after a very strong male voice in our family got on the cell phone to demand to talk to a supervisor, he got another foreign-accented man named "Jack" - who claimed to represent the United States Government, and to be in Rockville, MD.  Look, this scam is perpetrated by someone with call centers in the US and overseas.  The deal is to promise you something you might want, get a valid credit card number and permission to access it, and then take you for a very bad credit ride, because you gave them "permission", without ever explaining who they really are (could they be fund-raising for the Taliban or Al-Queda?  with those foreign accents it is a possibility), or what you are setting up.  They never allow you to know where they are, as the telemarketers are all over the world and can't tell you ( they are not supposed to disclose the real deal, are they, or the scam won't work).  These telemarketers get paid by the sucker, so yeah, they are desperate.  When our own Congress starts showing some integrity, as well as political leaders in other countries, and stops bedding down with criminals and turning blind a blind to wholesale scams on the public, maybe then we'll see an improvement in economic infrastructure and more decent jobs and these schmoes can get decent work.  Just don't give them your information.  Like you wouldn't invite a vampire into your house, right?

Just received a call from "James in Salt Lake City" with East Indian accent (sure he is from Salt Lake City....) claiming I applied for Federal Grant money (which I did not).  He gave me the name of the company yet I could not understand him. He keep insisting I applied for grant money, which I did not. When I asked for him name, he gave it. I asked for his ID#, he gave 136DI (I am guessing here).. the call came in on 714-994-2630. Call that one back!  I am reporting it to the Washington Attoney General, even though I am not sure what they can do.

Dear Pissed Off People,

I just got the call today. I was out and they called me on my cell phone. I answered and a man (whose name I didn't understand because of the thick accent) said I won some grant money. Now, I'm trying to get some money together for my first year in college so I am totally excited that I finally got a call about a grant, but then things get weird.

"Yes, I did fill out a grant application", I said when he asked me. And honestly, I have. BUT, since it was months ago, I can't remember the name word for word. He then proceeds to tell me that when I fill out the application I can ask for however much I need. RED FLAG!!! I have yet to hear of a legit scholarship or grant that is "name-your-price". I let him keep talking and ask him to repeat himself a few times because I cannot understand a word he is saying. Then towards the end of his ranting, he tells me he needs $1.87. I ask him is it now or later (as in, can I send a check to said company). He tells me he needs it now, therefore he needs a credit card number. RED FLAG!!!!!!

I am with my mother so I tell her what's happening. She takes the phone and the conversation is to her now. He tells my mother about the grant and that he needs her credit card to send me the application for however much money I need. My mother tells him that she is not going to give out the number over the phone and that they should send an email. He said they cannot send out an email and the need the number. Again, my mother tells him no.

He tells my mother that he has her SSN and her bank information. So my mother, being the funny and awesome person she is says, "Well if you have my SSN, what are the last four digits then?" (GO 'HEAD MOM!!!) He tells her that it is too much paperwork to go through to get it right now and that he still needs the number. She again tells him no. He asks her if she has a prepaid card and if she can get one that will work. My mother looks at me with that "this-dude-must-think-I'm-stupid" look and says "Yes I can get one. What's your number so I can call you when I purchase it?" He then asks my mother when she gets off then he will just call me again. My mother tells him to just call back tomorrow. We hang up and just shake our heads.

I am posting this on Facebook and sending out an email to all of my other college bound friends. The world is a crazy place and everyone is practically broke. How are broke people going to try and take money from other broke people?!?!

Sincerely, College_Bound2011
