These guys call our office all the time and usually just hang up. This time I stayed on the line and a little kid got on and I could hear someone in the background telling him to ask for Cathy. I said no Cathy here and the the voice in the background was giving muffled commands to the kid who then told me "no...I'm looking for Cathy" and then he suddenly hung up.

Robo call from Service Department saying there has been reported "break in" near where I live.  Press one to be connected to operator for security services.  Press two to be placed on DO NOT CALL LIST>     I am already on do not call list so I pressed one and asked what break ins ?   The girl stated that "Statistically" we COULD Be break ins.  As my husband and I are in our 70's this was an alarming.   I called the sheriffs department to confirm there were no break ins reported in our area.  This company should be ashamed of frightening senior and (disabled) citizens into trying to sell their project.

Have received calls from this outfit for well over a year +. They use a "spoofing" software which allows them to create "new" telephone numbers periodically. This is why sometime you get a call from Renton, WA... then Somplace, Oregon... or Somewhere, Idaho... basically if I get a call from "tiny town" Northwest, Mountain West, Nevada, Indiana, Florida, etc. I add the number to my "DO NOT ANSWER" contact on my phone. This helps, but after a year or more of getting these calls I've come to recognize them and simply throw it into "DECLINE" as soon as I see a "forbidden" area code - then add to the DO NOT ANSWER contact.

Based on Jack's comments above (11 MAY 2012) RE: Direct Response Marketing Inc (North Las Vegas, NV), I can add the following:

1. Confirmed name of Marketing firm as:
Direct Marketing Pros
3053 West Craig Road Ste E #101
North Las Vegas, NV 89032

Toll Free: 1-800-947-1142
Fax: 1-702-947-6597
http://www.directresponsepros.com

Accounting: accounting@directresponsepros.com
Sales: sales@directresponsepros.com

2. The company appears to deal in selling "lists" of phone numbers, email addresses, and building addresses to companies who sale via "lists" generated by this company. All of us who are getting these calls are on these lists this company sells to companies looking to "buy" contact lists.

3. Called number for "home security" leads list from this  "company" website... Options for speaking with "Sales, Accounting, Catherine Dahl(sp?) and Thomas Coolidge."

Simple check on LinkedIN to find a "Tom Coolidge" in North LV and working for Direct Marketing Pros. Here is his picture and linkedIN profile:  http://www.linkedin.com/in/directresponsepros (made a copy in case he deletes).

4. You can also follow this group on Twitter @DRPROS Check out the twitter feed... funny all the things that everyone here has posted as being "offered" to them.. are all items DRPROS sells...Hmmm.....

5. Most phone numbers these folks have are a result of "donating" to national political campaigns. If you donated to a political campaign, your name and information is published. Companies like this, simply go through this list and add the numbers to "their" lists. Ask yourself if you donated to a campagin in last two election cycles and you may understand "why" you are being called.

Hope this helps everyone. Please feel free to confirm this information. I was not able to connect with "Tom".. but am looking forward to calling him everyday. =] ~JR

That's not a bad idea, IF the caller is NOT spoofing another telephone number.  (Check Wikipedia for what 'spoofing' means.)  Fone Finder indicates that their telephone service is provided by Teleport Communications Group in Seattle.

Assuming that the number is NOT being spoofed, you can contact Teleport Communications to complain.  If they get a large volume of calls, they may be motivated to do something.

If the telephone number IS being spoofed, then call blocking may be desired.

Why do any of you answer calls from phone #s that you don't recognize? I DON'T!!!! The way I look at it, if it IS someone that I know, and it is important, they will either leave a voice mail message or send me a text message. Either way, I get a recorded message, and I decide whether to make contact or not, not the caller. If it is something I don't want to do, I delete the message. If they call repeatedly, I put them on my phone's auto reject list, and the calls go directly to voice mail without ringing. Sometimes, it registers on my phone as a missed call. Since I NEVER answer, they eventually give up. BTW, my outgoing voice mail greeting is the system default. I DON'T ID myself. If I gave you my cell phone #, you'll know that way that you called the right person. If you're guessing or shooting in the dark, you'll have to keep trying; I'm not going to help you figure it out by having my greeting in MY voice or mentioning MY name in the message. Marketers and "surveyors", GOOD LUCK! GO FIND SOME OTHER SUCKER! I GAVE AT THE OFFICE, AND I DON'T WANT TO BOTHERED ON MY PERSONAL CELL PHONE!!!!!!!!!!

Calls my number 3 to 4 times a day and today I answered and some guy asked me if I was interested in a alarm system and I said no I am not and to take my number off your list and he apoligized and said yes he would take my number off. We shall see, seems like the Do Not Call Registery is a bunch of crap.

I am with you James! Also, can someone tell me why the hell I have to "opt out" of something I never opted into? It's time to stop this intrusive nonsense hard, with legislation and stiff penalties. This is an invasion of privacy and when you think about how you use your equipment, a denail of service.

Enough is enough!

recorded person trying to sell me insurance.
You would think that with all the technology out there that there would be a simple way to stop unwanted calls. It is such a pain to have to block calls and then there is a limit on how many I can block. But numerous companies can call and call and call.

Hey everyone! There's no point in discussing HOW these leeches got your number, or the Do Not Call List, since none of that is enforced. Did u ever post an ad on Craigslist with your phone number, or give it to someone who answered your ad? Never give your number to anyone online that hasn't given their contact info simultaneously. Or give your number to anyone you met on a dating site online? or through email? How about a receptionist at a medical office? or minimum wage sales people at a store? Well, there are many people out there who's sole purpose in life is to collect / harvest phone numbers and email addresses, with the intent of selling them to telemarketers for a profit. You will get harassing phone calls, and spam texts/emails 24x7 if you are careless with your contact info. Telemarketers change their Business name/address/owner name so often, it's impossible to catch them. Do not pick up the phone when they call, since this just confirms your number, and tells their auto-dialing computer they have a live body to harass. Do not try to reason with them, since they have no other source of income, job skills, education, or real friends, so they don't care. They are desperate, and this is the way they survive. There is only one way to put these creeps out of business up to now. Get rid of your landline, or use it for outgoing calls only. Forward all incoming calls from your landline to your cell phone. Download a sophisticated voicemail program to your smart cell phone such as 'YouMail', in combination with the 'WhoAreYou' app, and learn how to use them. Then, one by one, use the Ditch feature to permanently tag all the numbers who call you repeatedly, and send them down the sewer drain. You won't hear from them again, since this all happens in the background. There are also devices you can hook to your landline / home phone which do a similar selective flushing of unwanted calls. Some telemarketers will sense you are doing this, and hit you from another phone, but you simply add that phone to the list, and eventually they are dead in the water. They only have a certain amount of 800 type numbers, and they have to pay for each of them. If enough people do this, these sharks will not be able to stay in business much longer, since everything is switching away from landlines to smart cell phones now anyway. Their days are numbered as technology improves.

Started getting this number calling me constantly...particularly on Saturdays. I do not answer....then decided to see who it was. Pure automated bullsheet. I did not sign up for this. Why are they allowed to call my number? How do I get them to stop other than punching in my number thereby confirming and potential phishing expeditions?
