Just got the same message, sounds alot like someone is setting up a scam similar to the "your car warranty is about to expire" scam. Do not respond. I agree with the previous posts, if you actually do have an HSBC account contact them directly.

Got the same message, referenced an urgent problem with my HSBC accounts starting with XXXX and then proceeded to list a series of numbers that don't correspond to any account I have.

Scam.

Got the same message this morning (1030EST) on my way to the bank (HSBC).  I spoke with one of the representatives and they confirmed my suspicions that this is a scam.  If you ever recieve a notification like this call the number on the back of your card.  Or if you get an email requesting account changes don't use the links provided in the email, actually log onto your bank account and make any modifications you deem appropriate.  Hope this helps someone out there.

You politicians sent you that message?  Or is it that you think that politicians should prevent every dirt bag in the world from coming up with a scam to get money from dumb people?

Your anger towards politicians seems a bit misdirected to me, not sure how this has anything to do with health care.

As long as there are dumb people around, and you don't have to look hard to find one, there will be scammers trying to part them from their money.  Not sure you should rely on Uncle Sam to protect you from that...

All HSBC debit cards start with the same 5 digits, it's the last 4 that signify and link the card to you.

Glad I looked this up, I thought something was fishy when I got the text, perhaps a bill or something? But when it had my first few numbers of my card I was like "Hm. Maybe not." Called the number, then as soon as there was no "Welcome to HSBC card activation, please enter your 16" blahblah...Instead I'm greeted with "To activate, please enter your card number". Yeahhhh no. Thanks for clearing up that it's a scam, I was wondering wtf was up. Thing is, it's a Washington number, and I live in NY. So I don't have any clue how they got this info, but they're definitely trying to make some money.

I'm a former HSBC employee.  ALL US debit cards begin with the same 6 digit number that is on this text.   So if you own a debit card, you are supposed to believe this email is meant for you.  It is, in fact, a scam to get you to call that number on the text.  If you are unlucky enough to get through, it will prompt you to give your entire debit/credit card number... DO NOT.  Unless you've been living in 'I-AM-A GULLIBLE-LAMB-VILLE' you will realize that once you give your credit card it will be compromized.
