this person is a scam artist wants me to send them 800.00 thru wall mart for car i have for sale do people really fall for this? i gave him email and home address is there any reason for this info other then viewing car ?last name merlin wasn't he a magic guy

He did the same thing to me yetserday with the exact same stpry, so I googled his number and got this info.

This number sent me a tex at 2:53AM, that stated almost exactly what you said.  Thank you.  I will not answer this number any more.  I thought something was up when I got the tex at almost 3AM.  I knew something was up when they stated, consider this as sold and get back to me with your paypal email address for the "instant payment" and also send me your pick up address.  The words INSTANT PAYMENT is what made me look up the number.  And who in their right mind is going to make a 28,000 purchase without seeing it!!

This person tried to buy a car off of Craigslist, said he was offshore.  Then he needed money wired for his agent, told the same story repeated here many times.

Sent me a text with the following for my station wagon ad:

"I'm seriously interested in buying it and I think that this is a fair asking price.  Currently I am at sea right now (I am a marine engineer for the Navy) but I really want this as a suprise for my son to handle it for.  I do not want to let him know anything about this until it gets delivered to him.

Same as above.  a generic text.  several. in response to a craigslist ad.
 pretty easy to see through, as the item wasn't even mentioned.  and I don't think he really wants to buy a minivan for his son!! as a surprise.

Same as bike girl just got a text yesterday on our ATV for sale in Colorado. The text she received so did we word for word.

This same number contacted me yesterday and was interested in my bike for sale on craigslist.  This is what he texted me.." I have an item on Craigslist. The person sent me a text stating that he (who knows if it's really a he) is out to sea presently. He stated that he is a marine engineer for the Navy. I have a king size Tempur Pedic bed for sale & he wants to surprise his son when it is delivered. I should considered it "sold" and all he needs is my PayPal email address for the payment.

I knew that it was a scam the moment he said he was out to sea!!!! I hope & pray that others will read this and not be fooled!!!

PS: FYI: DON'T ACCEPT CASHIERS CHECKS FROM PEOPLE YOU DO NOT KNOW. YOU WILL DEPOSIT IT AND OF COURSE, THEY'LL ALWAYS MAKE AN ERROR AND SEND YOU TOO MUCH AND ASK FOR THE DIFFERENCE TO BE RETURNED. BY THE TIME YOUR BANK REVERSES THE DEPOSIT, YOUR MONEY HAS BEEN RECEIVED BY THE JERK(S) AND IF YOU'VE WRITTEN CHECKS AGAINST THE MONEY THAT'S NOT THERE, YOU'LL HAVE BANK OVERDRAFT FEES AS WELL!

The same thing happened to me, except they sent me an email. I forwarded it to spoof@paypal.com , and traced it to one of their own computers. Apparently their own employees can't be trusted. They wrote back and said it was a phishing scam. Don't give out any information, just forward the SMS and you should be okay.

Yes, this person contacted me via text today at 4 AM (???) He/She asked me if my item is availale for sale. I just posted my ad yesterday late afternoon - so, Reader - please make your own conclusion on intention of the person who contacted me and others. Her/her phone  number is (425) 954-7238 - my advise do not repspond.

Yes, this scammer just contacted me with the same story about buying my item for his father and he is an offshore petroleum engineer. Please take note and don't fall for this guy.
