This is b***s*** they just called me from a unavailable number and he said that he was with Microsoft and that my computer is infected with a virus and it will shut down at any given time. He said to fix this problem go to something on the computer. I didn't go to s*** because its obviously a scam. I asked him what number he's calling from and looked this up. I cussed him out and told him its a scam. I told him I'm getting in touch with the police. So I called and acted like the police, and asked what is this company? He said a f****ng hospital. Really? How stupid could this dot head be?

I'm in Montreal canada and just received the 'Microsoft' service call!!  His name was Harry and wasn't too happy that I wouldn't comply! Said I was busy and that I would call back.  He gave me this 432 number....You'd think they'd get wiser and change numbers...but no!

He called me and said he was from Windows and that they had discovered I had downloaded some corrupt hardware which required immediate attention. He had a very thick East Indian assent and said his name was 'Mark'.   Impossible since I have a Mac.  His English was not very good and when I told him I was having a hard time understanding what he was saying, he was pretty upset.  I have always been a skeptic, especially since no Microsoft employee would ever introduce themselves as being "from Windows".  His manners needed alot to be desired.  His number came up on my cell as "unavailable", but he gave me a callback listed to the above number and I decided to google it. Skepticism paid off....... I hung up on him..... he definitely wanted access to my computer remotely...... Don't believe these people!!!

I also got one of these calls, this time it was from Seattle Wash. Only I unfortunately temporarily gave him control of my computer so he could "show me all the viruses and malware" We got all the way to the end when he was trying to sell me service plans, when i said hold on.......so if i don't give you any money, you won't fix it?, to which he replied "that's correct sir" I then hung up on him and immediately turned off my computer. The only other difference was that with me I couldn't log onto my computer even before the phone call, but had no trouble after re-booting. Has anyone else had any further issues? stolen credit or bank info??

I also received a call from Michael from Microsoft customer care at the 432 number; he said Microsoft had received an error report and wanted to walk me thru the process to protect my computer.  He indicated he had notice of a hacker in my system.  He had a very thick East Indian accent and was very persistent on trying to get me to turn on my computer for him. Like forget it.

I got the same call from the same number but says his name is Mark and he is also saying that he works for Microsoft, and I have many viruses on my computer, wanted to fix them right away. When I told him I was just leaving to run an errand, and wouldnt be back for a couple of hours he seemed to get a little upset. He said they need to be fixed right now!! In a couple of hours maybe too late, your computer is at risk now!! Well, I told him I dont know you!! If I had a problem with my computer, I would have to call Microsoft, I dont ever remember Microsoft just calling people, you would have to contact them first and then the help would begin!! DO NOT ALLOW ANYONE IN YOUR COMPUTER THAT JUST CALLS YOU!!! THEY WILL TAKE ALL YOUR INFORMATION!!

They are calling and wanting information from your computer. They say they are from Microsoft, and say you have a virus or a corrupt hard drive ant that they can fix your computer. First Microsoft will not directly call/contact you. They want remote access to your computer, and they will steal any information you have on your computer. It is a cyber crime. Please report to your local police department. This is a phishing scam and do not fall ofr it.

I just backtracked the call and it was not connected to Microsoft at all, The guy claimed to be in the technical department for Microsoft and sounded like he was straight out of a call center in India. What a big scam....

I received a call about this very thing today. I was addressed by name and told that microsoft was detecting a malicious program operating through my computer without my knowledge. The fact that my caller ID noted the caller as "Unknown Caller' was and immediate red flag to me. The call had a lot of interference as if it were being placed from overseas. I asked the man for his name and phone number. He said his name was Mark and he gave his number as 432-360-4563. I did not give him any information, nor did I give him remote access to my computer.

After I got off the phone I started searching for Mircrosoft phone scams and found a link on the Microsoft website concerning this scam.

http://www.microsoft.com/Presspass/press/2011/jun11/06-16MSPhoneScamPR.mspx

These scammers are after access to your financial information, via access to your computer, so they can steal from your bank and credit card accounts. Average loss to people in the USA has been between $800.00 - $900.00.  If I get another call from these thieves I will be ready for them and they will be sorry they ever thought to call me!! In the meantime I have reported them to the Internet Crime complaint Center.

From what I've read on these posts, Microsoft doesn't cold-call people-it would be a violation of their privacy policy. The person who called you is a scam artist. They try to fool people into thinking that their PC has gotten a virus, and they do a screen-share to supposedly take them out but what they're really doing is installing them, to gain access to their personal information, including passwords and bank accounts. They also try to charge for the virus "removal".
I would suggest blocking the calls, because these people can be total pests. Also report them to the FTC and www.IC3.gov .
