Indian man called claiming to be the IRS, wanted me to go the Western Union and collect $6000 in compensation from the IRS. He would give me a call at WU when I got there and give me a "code" to receive my money. First claimed he was the manager when I asked for his supervisor but eventually transferred to senior manager who proceeded to cuss me out so I hung up.

I got a call from my wife at home today... it showed up as this number.  I hung up and called home, and my wife answered.  I'm not sure how the caller ID got confused.

I live in Waynesboro and have nTelos.  I work in C'ville, though.

These calls are from someone using Skype or another VOIP provider. I just called myself at work from Skype and this number showed up.

As Brutium stated above me, it's very likely coming from a VoIP service. When I use Skype, I believe the number comes up as unknown, but I have been testing use of the VoIPBuster service, and that is the number that appears. It's always possible such services could be used by business or telemarketing companies that you do not wish to hear from, but it's totally possible that it is someone you do know.

I received a call from my Uncle in Japan on this number. May be this is a number people can use that are out of the area to appear that they live in the area so people will answer.

Calls my work number almost daily when I pick up the line goes dead. I tried to call the number today & it just keeps ringing! It is annoying!!

I get calls from this number on my cell almost every other day.  The first time I answered no one was there and I haven't answered since.  They keep calling and never leave a message.  Does anyone have any idea how to block this number?

Just got a call from this number. No one on the line and not able to call it back; got a message that all "circuits are busy".

I have a 434 number because I kept it when I moved across Afton. I also have Vonage service.

I went ahead and reported it to the FCC. I make it a habit to do this to all suspicious calls.

I just received a call from my mother and this showed up as the i.d., and it is definitely not her, and she is definitely not calling from Cville.  It is not limited to Comcast Customers, we have Embarq!

Got two calls this evening, strong Indian accent, letting us know that we were one of 20 people selected nationwide to win a 3 day 2 night stay anywhere in the world and a $1000 shopping gift card.  I asked to be taken off their list and was told to F-off...We too have Comcast.

Caller had my name and adress.  Said I won a two night three day say anywhere in the us and a 1000dollar shopping spree for grocreys.  All i had to do was pay the 2.99 shipping.  I said i wasn't interested and he keep insisting it was a great deal.  I was one of only tenty chosen across the us.  He had already called once today and talk to my husband with the same bull.  I could here other people doing the samething in the background!

Got a call from this number (I am also in 434 area code in C'ville).  It was a customer calling from Singapore.  It must be some service that allows people to make long distance calls as if they are local

I have gotten several calls from 434-422-9338 lately. I answer the phone, say "hello" several times-no answer. Either static or dead air-then the line goes dead. There is sometimes a voice talking in a foreign accent. It will show up on my caller ID as either "international call" or "incoming call". I then dial *69, they give me the number 434-422-9338, I dial the number and get a recording saying "this call has been rejected". This number has the area code as well as one of the 3 number prefixes for Charlottesville phone numbers, so I thought it was a Charlottesville area number at first. Looks like I thought wrong.  All kinds of services are offered by Embarq to track down these people, but Embarq charges for them. Whoever is responsible for all these calls would rather be eaten alive than deal with me. That time will come sooner or later if I have anything to say about it. To all you other people who wrote in on this, thank you. I learned a lot.

The caller identified himself as "Robin" a male subject and mispronounced my last name.

Received probably 5 calls from this number before noon on July 28.  Anybody have any idea who this is? Would love to report them.

Left voicemail to call a number (area code = 212) but never left his name. We did not call him back.

Called and ask for my bank account number saying it was in a public system and that it needed to be removed.  Identified himself as Tony Jefferson of the National Verification Office of Virginia.  I told him I would need to check it out on the web and there was no such Office.  In the meantime he hung up.
