I got a call today in California, from "Toronto, Ontario" but the area code was upstate N.Y.  I called back, to be the initiating caller.  I started asking questions, so they hung up.

I just received a call from this number - he told me his name was Max Smith (ya right, considering I could barely understand him due to his east indian accent) said he was from Call Remote Experts hired by windows.  I told him that I would have the company that I purchased the computer from check out my security issues and that I didn't believe a word he was saying.  then promptly hung up.

yeah, just found this page after i've had this issue for more then 1 Mo. im savvy with pcs and scams using them and ID theft, so i realized in literally 2 seconds that it was a scam. Microsoft holds no responsibility over your OS health/condition and will NOT contact you ever. I screwed with the guy for a few min till he hung up on me realizing i was doing so. On another encounter(which im starting to enjoy :P) i just stated " but i dont run windows..." and got slammed up on right away. It seems only Atlantic Canada is under attack, are we all eastlink users? thats a good question. i wonder this given the amount of detailed info they have. its scary really. however if you have contact with these persons its very suggested you go about changing all your personal access info asap.

I just got a call here in NB, I didn't answer when I saw the area code. They have been calling here for about a month now from all over the USA, or at least that's where I traced the area codes to. Why don't they get out and find a real job instead of trying to mess with other people?

I just received a call from 435-319-0446 as well saying my computer was sending errors....blah, blah, blah.  I said I think this is a scam and asked for their name and phone number.  He is "Ryan" and the # he gave me was 020-3286-9239.

When I searched for this number on the internet this website http://www.callremotexperts.com/home.html came up as well as several others so caution to anyone that finds these websites as well.

I'm in Nova Scotia too and they have been calling for over a month from different phone numbers. This one just started today, first they called from unavailable name & number and got the answering machine. It must show up as a live hit so they call from a number an hour later. A month ago when I said I'm not interested in your scam, the guy actually yelled at me lol! he kept yelling "this is not a scam, scammers are hackers, they do not call you ,they hack you"....I have even told him I don't have windows because I have  Mac and he still keeps calling back. When you've told them off countless times, told them you have a Mac and never once listened or fell for any of their BS, why do they bother to keep calling? It's pathetic that we pay for our phone service only to be harassed by never ending scam calls. I just don't answer most of the time, but they still keep calling. I might try the "Hello you have reached the RCMP fraud line" next time and see how he likes that lol.

Not expecting a Utah call, so ignored. Word of advice: don't try to engage these computer service scammers. I tried that and the guy called me back, which means he now had my actual phone number (rather than something generated by a computer). True, he was now paying for the call from Pakistan or whereever he was calling from, but it still worried me.

Prank Call
This number had been calling all week.  When it was answered by my wife today they said there was "Criminal Activity" happening from our IP address and they needed to have our computer turned on right away.  Scared the S#!T out of her.  They were aggressive and demanded that she not hang up and that the call was being recorded.  She is Tech Smart and asked for their name and a call back number.  He used the name Mark (harsh foreign accent) with a New York number (315) 642-4364 but again demanded that she not hang up.  She Hung Up.   I called the RCMP and they are aware of this scam but cannot do anything other than recommend you hang up immediately.

I hope they call back when I AM HOME.  It should be entertaining.

I get these calls regularly here in Canada and also asked to be taken off the calling list. Still get the calls. The guys who calls us says he is about a "windows" problem with my computer. A couple of times I have mentioned that it was a scam and he insisted it wasn't. Once I asked for a # where he could be reached and he hung up on me.

I like the idea of letting them go on and then telling them they are talking to a Police investigator. I wonder would this stop them from calling.

Got a call from this # from a guy.  He said that he was from Microsoft Windows.  There was and error on my computer.
Wanted me to sit down in front of my computer and check some things for him.  (Like I would go for it.)
I asked for lots of specifics.  Some of the answers were so out of league, that it made me laugh.

Must of struck a nerve, cause this followed.
"Stop laughing and just sit down at your computer, B**ch!"

I told him that is not a way to conduct business, if this was legal, please go thru proper channels.

I wonder if I can sue this person for using the language he did, in hopes that this will stop.

Just called here (Nova Scotia) but I knew the number so didn't answer. Next time I will answer with:
"Good Morning.
You have reached the R.C.M.P. Telephone Fraud line.
Please input the number that you are reporting and an Officer will be with you in a moment.
Thank you - Input the numere, with the Area Code, now."

Gonnas love seeing how the spammer/hacker/whatever reacts to that.

Just got off the phone with our friend(s) from India that called the house every day, sometimes more than once a day since last week. Every call since the first one - answered by someone else in the house who had the sense to say they had to talk to me and which disconnected before I got to the phone - has disconnected after a short time (d**n auto-dialer either didn't transfer the call to the live body correctly or they were all busy). I've been answering just because I wanted to f**k with them and see how long the call would last when they realized I knew more than they did about computers.

I played naive for the initial pitch then started asking questions:

Me: " What kind of errors are you seeing?"
A$$hole: Generic response about " serious Windows errors that could damage or wipe out your computer, too complex to explain... "

Me: " How do you know the errors are originating from my computer?"
A$$hole: " I can see that they are... "

Me: " If you're sure the errors are originating from my computer then what is my IP address? You HAVE to know that to know the source."
A$$hole: " I'm not allowed to tell you the IP address... "

Me: " Well I'm not giving you access without some kind of proof. What version of Windows am I running?"
A$$hole: " I'm not permitted to discuss... "

This went on for a bit and then I lowered the boom!

Me: " Listen A$$hole! I have an Information Technology background. I know this is a scam! Besides all my computers are running Linux Now when I get off the phone I'm going to post details of this call on facebook and email it to ALL my contacts to... "

The call disconnected before I got to finish my sentence. I was going to say "... make sure they don't fall for it either and to tell them to share it with ALL their friends." but I never got the chance.

THAT WAS FUN!!!

I wonder if they'll call back? I bet the phone number will change if they do? It's faked anyway - they're using Voice-over-IP service (similar to MagicJack) that allows you to have a phone number from anywhere regardless of where you actually are. Either way, I'll be ready and so should you! Feel free to print MY script and keep it by the phone...
