Believe it or not,  based on what I've seen/experienced here in Los Angeles, some of these characters may even have direct/indirect federal ties...and it's funny to be abusive in this way.

You're absolutely correct in your assessment of these people...they do appear to have criminal intent.

And yet another unwanted call.  I get at least 4-5 calls a day, ever since I signed up with Do Not Call.  The Caller ID said "Unknown Name."  I got it yesterday around 3pm.  No message of course.

This morning, I got another one that said "Unknown Caller" with no number shown.  No message.  Like Washington Resident above, I never answer calls I don't recognize or don't want to talk to (maybe at that moment).  Occasionally, Unknown Caller will be a legit one, so I waited for a message on this one.  Nothing.

I've gotten calls from so-called carpet cleaning before, but from Nevada.  Same thing: "Unknown Name" and no message of any kind.

I don't have digital phone, so I can't use all these fancy things people are talking about, like Google Voice.  I guess I have what is an analog phone.  It works fine for me, and I don't use the phone much anyway.

Being that I'm long term unemployed, and usually home when these types of calls come in (mornings, lunchtime, dinner time, and around 8-9pm), I pick up and hang up.  It's what they are going to do anyway.

I wish I got this many calls from EMPLOYERS hiring.

Maybe if the FCC and/or FTC filed conspiracy charges against any and all people recording these illegal sales calls or outright scam calls it would also cut down on the problems. If some dimwit knew they could end up being fined or imprisoned for recording sales pitches used illegally they would think twice before recording them.
And I say the first guilty plea or court finding might be a fine, but after that they should all get actual prison sentences.

I never answer unless I recognize the name or it looks like a call I might be expecting. But I'm still tired of all the wasted time and irritation they cause.
I can't use NOMOROBO because Comcast doesn't provide simultaneous ringing service to home customers, only business clients...

Called at 2 PM  PST.  Didn't pick up.  Recognized the number as most likely  "DIANE" singin'  the carpet cleanin'  blues.  By now the whole country must have heard her voice.  Who the hell is she?

Just got the robo call. Pressed on and learned "We have 7 locations, the main one is in Tacoma (WA)" my bet is several companies use the robo call and pressing 1 gets you linked to the closest.

Never realized how plentiful (and annoying) carpet cleaners are. As a Do Not Call registrant, I made the mistake of pressing '1' to be removed from the list. If you think about it for a moment it doesn't make any sense to violate the DNC list, then ask people to be removed from 'their' list. If they cared they would have never called in the first place.

What I've found that gets me off the list is to take up as much time with silly questions about their service as possible. "What kind of cleaning solution do you use?"

"My dogs and cats are allergic to certain chemicals. Can you tell me all of the chemicals in the cleaning solution?"

What is important is that time is money to these folks and the more time of theirs that you can waste the more it cost them. Normally after five or ten minutes of jibberish the caller figures out what I'm up to and ask if I'd like to be taken off their list. I say, "That would be nice."

Always remain civil; after all these callers are just trying to make a living the best way they know how. Most likely they are down on their luck and don't have any other choice. Yelling and swearing at them will just make them angry and you've got a snowball's chance in hell of getting them to remove your number.

Get, or if you have caller ID, just look at the number and if you do not recognize it let it go to voice mail. If no voice mail left then you know it was a robo or a telemarketer. Of course if you have neither caller ID or voice mail your stuck with answering.

yup, Diane is a busy little beaver. I pressed one and asked for the name of the company, Carpet Care is what I was told, asked for their mailing address and was politely told that it is a PO Box, do I still want it. When I stated yes, I was hung up on. I wonder if I had made an appointment and had friends pose as news crews and told whoever came to my house that they have been set up with some sort of prank would I be the only one laughing?

Another call today at 10:52 AM  Pacific Standard Time from "Diane".

But see:  http://www.lee.org/blog/2009/04/16/carpet-cleaning-telemarketers/

Carpet cleaner counter-scammed.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TYUcCVGd1Ro

I don't know if  I'd try this, but it might prove effective.   I wonder if Belcastro is the person behind all these "Diane" calls.

Got the same thing from Diane.  More robocalls.  This is what was posted some time ago:

14 Jun 2007
BOISE, Idaho -- A telephone solicitor who called Nampa residents offering carpet cleaning services has paid a $10,000 fine for violating the Do Not Call registry.

The Idaho Attorney General's office says Authorized Cleaning Services used an autodialer to market its services. The AG's office got more than 75 complaints from people who were called despite being on the no call list. Some were called several times a day.

John Belcastro, who operated the company, agreed to pay the fine and stop soliciting Idaho residents as part of a settlement with the Idaho Attorney General's office.

I'm going to do some research as well as make some complaints.

I received a call from this number. As usual, no message was left. I did some research and I found out that area code 440 is in use in the metropolitan Cleveland Ohio area. It makes me wonder what they would charge for travel time, as I do not live even remotely close to Cleveland. Also, my residence consists completely of hardwood floors.

The call says, "Hi, I am Diane and we have a special to clean your carpet...." I listened through to ask them to take me off the calling list.  The recording asks to press 1 and speak to a scheduler. I pressed one and the call disconnected.  I spoke to a lady but she hung up on me.

I got the "this is diane" robo call in Edmonds,  WA and pushed the # key. To my delight the recording started at the beginning each time. Did this 2hrs while watching tv. Maybe if everybody did this it would slow them down
