THEIR STOCK IS WAY DOWN SINCE THIS CAMPAIGN STARTED. FAR WORSE THAN THE DROPS ON WALL STREET. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!

Reverse boycott. Together we are destroying their cost/benefit ratio by consuming their service. Their legal model is less vulnerable than their business model. Individual efforts against their legal model have failed for years. This united effort against their business model is succeeding.

When a company can repeatedly call with the intent of getting money their customers can repeatedly answer or call back with the intent of not giving them any. They need people to pay with as little talk as possible. They don't want to talk with people who know they are never going to pay. Be all talk and no pay. Answer when convenient. Call back. Give no information. Verify nothing. Ask as many questions as you can. Answer none.

Don't ignore/block/report them. It doesn't work. These folks want you to ignore them for as long as you can stand to or until you give them something valuable like money or information. Ignoring them is being their good customer. Sending a cease and desist is giving information. It lets them know you are still alive and remain their good customer. Preparing to initiate unlikely individual legal battles is being their good customer.

Be their bad customer. Make them talk to you fruitlessly for as long as they can stand to or until they stop selecting you as their customer. These companies cannot spend seconds much less minutes on the phone with every person who will never send them a dime. But they don't know who that is. You do. That knowledge is power. Every second you can keep their staff on the phone will render their business less profitable giving them a reason to never call you again.

Calling will not reset your SOL. Making a partial payment will.

I like to ask general questions they should but usually won't answer, "May I have the name and address of your agent for service of process?" Calmly and slowly ask them to spell every word in the address. Read it back for verification. Control the pace. If they are rushing then politely ask them to slowly repeat. "Are you a corporation and if so in which state are you incorporated?" Repeat your questions when you don't get direct answers. When they won't answer a question ask, "Would you like to comply with the business and professions codes of your state?" That is usually the point when they hang up on me but if they say they want to comply then begin your questions again.

Repeat while you have the spare time. These folks have many victims and few operators. If everyone calls back but pays nothing the mass auto-dialer business model becomes unprofitable. Don't aide and comfort the enemy by ignoring them. Call! Have a nice long slow friendly chat! Make them hang up first.

Press 2 for Spanish.

For any business, customers who consume the most resources but don't pay (or otherwise add value) become the least desirable. Most businesses will stop (cease and desist) soliciting an undesirable customer. Those that don't stop remain knowingly vulnerable to the actions of their undesirable customers. Few companies can afford to let everyone take a piece of them whenever they want endlessly. For instance they must pay staff to answer everyone's telephone calls which can be placed at your convenience for the joy of it. Call and consume their operator time without paying or giving information. Be a bad customer. The worst customer. Inspire them to invoke their right to refuse you service by not soliciting you.

There are certainly enough victims to take down this company so ignoring/blocking seems downright Orwellian to me. Really? We're just going to passively submit and go with a block list or however we manage ignoring an endless stream of unwanted phone calls day after day? Hell no! Unite or remain conquered. Answer/return every call - become well practiced at keeping these folks on the phone - or count yourself not amongst the free.

Yup, got a call on our business line from them at 440-580-0722. Definitely Portfolio Recovery, that appeared int the caller id. I think this one was an automated call though, there was a bit of voicemail left which sounded like the end of a recorded message.

These idiots have been calling me for several years and from so many different numbers and locations I have lost track.  I think that they currently have close to 100 different numbers and will also call from an 800# as well as private caller or unknown caller.  They call seven days a week including holidays.  I finally got CID and absolutely will not answer any calls unless I recognize the number.  In an attempt to make their day as glorious as they make mine with their annoying calls I keep a whistle next to my phone and when I see Portfolio Recovery on my CID they get an ear full.  At one point they were calling here multiple times a day and now I get one or two calls every couple of weeks.

Do not talk to them anymore and change your phone or try to block them from calling you from any of their known numbers.

Once you give them attention the try to keep you hooked on their schems.

Change your number. They can not collect after 20 years period.

Good luck.

Portfolio Recovery keeps calling  1 to 3 times a week, and leaving female computer- generated voice recorded messages about trying to collect a debt ... WE DON'T HAVE ANY DEBT with them !!! The recording never leaves a name of whom they are trying to contact, nor do they leave the name of the 'woman' making the phonecall to our 'DO NOT CALL/ NO SOLICITATION' phone number. Portfolio Recovery has been consistently calling our number for over 2 years now ... aren't they in violation of the "DO NOT CALL" protection? If so, how do we have them cease and disist calling us without going through costly legal action?

Portfolio Recovery calls me at home and work. They are calling about debt that is over 15 years old. I believe that exceeds the number of years that it is legal to try to recover debt in Texas. They are very rude and will not stop calling day and night. Thank God for caller ID.

Just received a call from this number today, hate to break it to them, I do not have an "debt", so I will not be wasting my time with them. I do a credit report every single year, so I know what I have going on. I'm under the impression this is a scam...
Also, the "debt collector" that posted the butchered response about the economy being bad, you should probably do a little research as to what caused that. And learn how to form a complete sentence? No one can take you seriously with a response like that...

I'm  at work and at 9:26 in the morning, they're calling me at work. That's harassment. I told them to remove this number from their records and anything they have to ask about an OLD bill (past the statuatory date) put it in writing, otherwise I'm reporting them to my State Attorney General's office.

Portfolio Recovery is a sleazy operation that works like that Nigerian e-mail scam:  Hire enough desperate people to make calls to enough numbers and hope they collect something, then pay them straight commission, since no collection means no income.  They use dozens of different phone numbers to try and avoid detection.

Next time these clowns get through to you on the phone, ask the rep "Can't you find a more dignified way to make a living?".  Like, maybe...prostitution or drug dealing?

i got a call from this number of 440-580-0720 and they call me a lot this company. i mean there are like ten websites online that i know of that people use to complain about people that harass them and they claim they have no debt or that the debt is 10 years old and i dont know what to think, they would not bother random people and for what? debt that is ten years old? maybe if you paid your bills no one would bother you people in the first place. i understand that they should not after that long but i dont know the whole story of what happend to you all. and i admit i had debt issues to deal with in the past few years so im not gonna say they call me for no reason but it is bothersome what they do and how they try to trick people into answering the calls they make. you can stop this if you write a letter to the company and show them proof that you owe them nothing or that you want them to stop. im sorry you all deal with it but i just see so many people complain on these sites and it makes me think people got harrassed so much they needed to make a site to complain on. sorry to all that have no debt or maybe has issues with the company to deal with.

Yes, they are sneaky with all the numbers they call from.  And with my provider I can only block 5 at a time!  I'm looking forward to the day when the limitation is up so I can write them and tell them to stop bugging me!  For now, I just don't answer ANY number that I don't recognize, especially from all those different area codes.  Then I save the ones that I can't block, and set the ringer for that caller to "silent" so at least I don't have to hear them bugging me.  Because of course, they never leave a message.

Here Ya Go....They Are Relentless. All The Numbers Below Are For The Same Thing...I Have Them All Set On 'Send Straight To Voice Mail', So I Get A Call Just Once..But As You All Have Learned...They Just Use A Different Number. They Spend All That Money On Phone Numbers And People To Make The Calls. Silly Isn't it?  I Tell Them... "You Can't Get Blood From A Stone".

They call me for my ex-boyfriend i haven't seen in 5 years, my son-in-law who has a different name from  me, but used to live at my address and even my 11 year old granddaughter.  They seem to be getting my cell phone number from the address and call for anybody who has EVER shared an address with me, even years ago.

you know what i do with all their numbers...I made a contact called "Z" and every time one of them pops up that isn't under that contact, i add it to that contact which i then set it up to send straight to voice-mail. 99.9% of the time, they don't leave a message so i don't even know they called except i can see it in my phone log but since they're under Z, i never have to see them in my contacts until i scroll all the way down. I think i have like 15 of their numbers under that contact that all go straight to voice mail. I'm really hoping they run out of numbers soon!!
Good luck guys!!

Don't care how old this post is, but considering you are here to report this number, you either have a debt or the company is worse than we thought and they have hired trolls like you to come in and comment.  They can't even tell me who the debt is through or what the car was.

I keep getting calls from 440-580-0720 about a Discovery charge we owe. I've told them that we don't have such an account and that we're on the Do-Not-Call list and to quit calling. They responded: We're exempt from that. I say: well you can keep on calling and we won't answer. They responded: And that's exactly what we'll do.

Does the Fed do ANYTHING about complaints on these people?

Some people have old debit because they lost their job and now are just making ends meet and can't pay it.  If the company wrote it off they shouldn't be trying to collect it!  I am disabled and hardly can make ends meet on SS after working all my life so there is no money for anything else. They have called from a lot of different numbers all hours of the day and night and holidays.  They ring my phone once so the number shows up and hang up and don't leave a message.
