Debt Collector
They've been calling me for 3 years. I've not answered once. My credit card debt is way past the statute of limitations.

I defaulted on some credit cards after the crash in 2008, to the tune of 80 grand (I had a very high paying job and credit card limits of 20k a piece.

I basically gave all of them the finger. I didn't answer one call from any company. I figured if the banks were getting bailed out, I should too.

I lost my job, my house, my family and have no money. So, you can't get blood from a stone you Wall St pieces of sh*t.

Every credit provider basically wrote me off, except for Portfolio Recovery that bought my worthless account. I say to them, keep wasting your time calling me. I don't care. I think it's funny. Waste your time. Just know, whenever I see a number I don't recognize, I don't answer, ever.

I just had this call and NOMOROBO stopped it in it's tracks after 1 ring. I have been using this service for about 3 months and I have noticed it to be very effecive against calls like this. I haven't had even one get by yet. If it does, you can report that number to the service, and they will add it to their still building database. It's free and does the job as far as I can see. Bad thing is,some carriers won't support it yet , probably because they can't get every dollar possible by not letting these calls go through. Check it out to see if your carrier supports it. I have it on my mother's Time Warner Cable home phone and she is so grateful to not have all those annoying calls. Just go to NOMOROBO.COM and see if it will work for you. Like I said, it's free and non-invasive, so no harm in looking into it.

I call them back and put the phone down and a pillow over it for an hour to tie up that line so that they can not call anyone from that line. I have unlimited calling and unlimited long-distance.  then put that number On block calls.

Honey, I'm sorry for your family's difficulties. Truly I am; been there done that quite a few times, and it's always hard. Hang in there.

Now - as to these bottom-feeding scum buckets from Portfolio Recovery and other bottom-feeding scum buckets that may call, please know that they may or may not see your message. Regardless, never never NEVER post your personal info online. You never know who - or what kind of lowlife - is trolling websites like these just to catch innocent, caring folks like you who are fed up with constant calls from unknown numbers, blocked calls and scam artists, who think that posting a message like you did will help stop the calls. They won't stop. They'll just change numbers.

You can report BS like your family is going thru to the FTC; and I suggest looking into a call- block device, or just assign a silent ringtone to that number.

I keep hoping that someday somebody will invent a way to stop annoyance calls at the source, but until then, all we can do is stick together on websites like this one and keep letting others know that calls like this are BS and scams.

Hang in there, sweetie. Be strong for your family, but remember to take care of you, too. And please do not post anymore personal info online. Be safe.

Prank Call
Call # 525  !!!! since their lawyer Pearson stated in writing that they had "decided to cease collection efforts" on a totally unverified (he admitted in writing the so-called debt can not be verified) debt. Therefore, I can only assume these past three and a half years of calls since then are NOT collection calls at all. Maybe the little vermin are just lonely....

Yet another call, and new number, from those darling bottom feeders, PORTFOLIO RECOVERY.  The past few calls have been from an 817 area code.

As I have no "portfolio", it is impossible to imagine just what in tarnation they expect to "recover".

My best guess is that they have called my private, unlisted, never-given-out-to-anyone who is not a friend or relative FAX machine number roughly 100 times in the past year.

Never answer their calls - no good can come of it.

I keep getting these, and answer in a firm "third person" voice. This is a sample of what happens:
Me: "Hello?"
Them: "I am looking for [name of person]."
Me: "They are not available."
Them: "Can you give me another number/time that is better to reach them?"
Me: "They are not available, may I ask who is calling?"
Them: "This is [name of caller]."
Me: "What company are you calling from?"
Them: "Portfolio Recovery, Ma'am."
Me. "I'll tell them you called. Thank you, have a nice day."
and I hang up.

I have found that if you put a tone of --POLITE-- authority in your voice (DO NOT CLAIM AUTHORITY YOU DON'T HAVE) they will tend to back off and be quite a bit more civil, as they are not sure who they are dealing with, but they don't hear fear or weakness in your voice. Take this with a grain of salt, and be selective with it, but don't ever show them fear. I wouldn't claim false authority, or resort to threats AT ALL, but if you show that you are standing up for yourself, they usually don't know how to get around that.

Didn't recognize the number, it called my cell...didn't answer it  Looking here it seems that it is some sort of collection agency. Most likely looking for the previous owner of this number. If it's legit at all

I am so tired of these people calling.  My block list with my phone company only holds 12 numbers and ALL of the numbers I have blocked are from these people.  98% of the time they call and do not leave a message.  Sometimes it comes up as Portfolio Recovery and sometimes it just says the city and state.  This time it was Strongsville, Ohio, not Texas.  I wish there was another way to block them from calling all the time but with so many different numbers, it's hard.  At least with my cell, I can block a lot more numbers with the right app but there is no app for a home phone.  I get a call almost every day from them, sometimes two to three times a day.  I think I know what they are calling about and it has already been taken care of by my attorney when it comes to the company that is supposed to be paid that they are hired by to bug the crap out of me.  I am sure the client that hired portfolio to be a** holes have already been paid but they continue to call to get more from me.  Maybe I need to block my number and start calling them a dozen times a day and as soon as someone answers, hang up on them or just sit there with dead silence and wait for them to hang up.  There has to be some way to report them for all the harassment they have been doing and for all the different phone calls that they call from.  Either that, or turn on my fax so that they will get all those lovely screeching tones in their ear when call.

Another number to add to my blocked list.  My current blocker will block up to 1500 numbers.  I guess when they reach that number I will get another one and chain them together.  I do not see how these scumbags can get this many different numbers.  There has to be something the FTC can do except waste tax payer money.

Portfolio Recovery calls my house at least once every day. So far I have blocked six of their numbers. I have also put my phone on the national do not call list, for whatever good that does.

What I'm going to do next is call the Better Business Bureau and complain about them.

Add them to your reject call options on your cell phone.  Or call them back and tell them they have the wrong person to please take your number off your list,,,,it works....for quite a while, then they start again and just do it again, no sense in speaking to them.

It's not illegal to try to collect. Debt is still debt. All the statue of limitations concerns is the amount of time they have to actually take you to court for it.
