They called about a business my spouse operated 7 years ago, claiming it had some debt.  As a lawyer, I can say they are complete scam artist, 100%!  It seems they gather publilc information and then attempt to confuse small businesses into thinking they made an oversight on a bill.  Same old pig, new lip stick.

We have been getting calls from these #s 1-440-735-5100 1-440735-5115. Messages with a reference #
They were looking for my husband....he returned the call to find out what it was all about....they told him he owed 90.00 to "I BILL" a company we have never heard of ...they said it was relating to our business how ever they called our home phone and had our home address, which has nothing to do with our business.  My husband said that if he owed a bill he would pay it but had never heard of this co.  He asked to be faxed or emailed a copy and if it was something he owed he would certainly pay....they responded that they didn't have information like that for bills under $100. They were going to note that in our file...this has been going on since October...in December he again spoke to someone who promised to stop the robo calls and would speak to my husband directly and get the info we needed to resolve the matter ....never got any info...now it's January and we have gotten. 2 more robo calls with messages...he again called back and asked what was up since we still have no info and feel this is totally a scam if they can't produce a bill /invoice or something....we have no intention of giving out bank or credit card info to these sleeve balls.
I want to file for harassment ....don't know where to begin.   We have bent over backwards to deal with this!
TOTALLY. FED UP!!!!!!!!

I keep getting a recorded message about an important issue, with a reference number. The call back number is 440-735-5115 McCarthy, Burgeson and Wolf but the call is from 817-789-4853 Arlington tx. So this tells me something is wrong with this picture. I see it as a scam and there should be some way to file on them.

I receive calls to my business from 440-735-5115.  A man's voice does not leave a name, or name of company.  He leaves this phone number, then a computer voice leaves a reference number.
When I call this number, it is disconnected.

That is this?

It is very annoying.

About two minutes after starting our new business, we plugged in our new phone and were excited when we got our first call.  The message said it was from McCarthy Burgess and Wolf.  Funny thing is our company is called McCarthy Trading.  Anyway, we wrote down the reference number and their phone number but didn't call them back.  For the next three weeks they called us many times always with the same reference number and call back.  Finally, out of frustration we called them back only to find out that they wanted some medical supply company that had apparently had our phone number before us.  McCarthy, Burgess and Wolf appoligized and said they wouldn't be calling us again.  Ha, Ha we'll see.

it is NOT a law firm. It has a name that sounds like one (burgess & wolf, blah blah) but they are NOT a law firm. Tell them you do not want to deal with them period. You do not have to. They have no power over you. They also have terrible record keeping. They called me about a debt to the phone company that was long since paid. They suck. Tell them to never call you and that you never want to work with them in any way, shape or form. They are NOT a law firm and even if they were, it makes no difference. Calling people about debts is not what law firms do. A real law firm will file a lawsuit that must be served upon you personally.

Yup, the same automated message. Whether I feed it to voice mail or answer directly, it's always an automated message. If it's really so important, how come they don't have a live person call? I've never called back but am a bit tempted thinking it may be a mistake that could ultimately lead to someone messing with my credit. Not sure, but either way, it's getting annoying.

This appears to be a legitimate collections agency that in my case called the wrong number.  When I called back they were very professional and we cleared up the mistake.

This is what I found on their website. You may find this interesting. I know i did. We are a collections-driven company. Our concept of selling as it relates to collections not only creates greater recoveries, but also enhances, rather than inhibits, your sales efforts. The objective is to maximize your collections in a way that would not compromise customer relations.

You have already created "the open" by selling to your customer. Our job is "the close"-having you get paid. We do this by finding the customer's "hot button," the factor that motivates them to do what they demonstrated they don't want to do-pay the debt.

MB&W's approach to collections is early identification of why an account is unpaid. Oftentimes, it is a paperwork or customer service issue. The concept of selling approach allows us to take CRM (Customer Relation Management) into the receivables management arena. In those instances where the problem is strictly a lack of desire to pay, the concept of selling dictates the Account Manager find the "hot button." Persistence and the unwillingness to accept "no," combined with an average of 12 years experience, allow our Account Managers to produce superior results.

The concept of selling also requires that a good sales effort incorporate good marketing. For instance, the design of our letterhead exemplifies the quality of correspondence needed to create high credibility. We find it gets read faster and produces more impact than traditional "form letter" collection correspondence.
I think they mean that badgering and berating a customer is the only way to deal with any outstanding dept regardless of time or reason.

My daughter was getting calls on her cell phone from this number.  They finally left a message one time with a code and this number to call back.  So, I called it back.  Of course they had the wrong number, but they were looking for someone that had something to do with a girl scout council... collections agency! Told them to take her number off of the file, it was the wrong number.  IF they call again, I'll report to do-not-call agency.

It's been interesting reading this blog.  I think, however, I got one that tops all the other harrassing calls from this company.  My husband was gravely ill in the hospital. I was standing beside his bed when his phone rang. I answered it and could not believe that it was an automated message from MBW about a debt asking us to call them ASAP.  How in the world did they know how to reach him?  For the whole month my husband was in the hospital I got these calls at home.  If the caller ID said UNKNOWN I would not pick it up.  Sometimes they would leave a message, sometimes they wouldn't. They also called my place of business.  For those of you who receive these sorts of calls at work - MBW is "outside" of the law if you have told them not to call you at work and they continue. They can be reported.  I was given a deadline of when I had to have the check to them or else what? Do they want my first born or something?  And hang ups - oh yes - they have hung up on me many times. How rude! The caller starts out very nice and friendly and then comes on like a gangster.  Wouldn't you hate to have a job like this?  How could you sleep at night?  Not everyone who has a debt is a deadbeat.  Some of us are very nice people who have fallen on hard times and illness.  Anyway - to all you others out there who are dealing with the "nice" folks at McCarthy, Burgess and Wolf - God bless us all.
